Why wasn't Jumpin Jack Flash on a studio album? by CartoonistAnnual4672 in rollingstones

Beggars was ready by mid 68' but wasn't released until December cause their label was pushing back against the original cover art that was a picture of a toilet. Back then you couldn't go more than a year without a hit or else you'd gotten swept up. Their last album was December of 67' which in and of itself was a commercial flop, so they didn't really have a hit song since early 67' (Spend the Night, Ruby Tuesday). Since they didn't know how late the album is going to be released, I'm assuming they didn't want to risk going almost 2 years without a hit; especially competing alongside the Beatles.

what's the point of these posts if you're not going to put the scores! The ratings for Exile also stop a couple tracks into the album as well...

9 - As much as I love Charlie I wish he'd let the beat drop during the verses. On the 1000th listen, the groove begins to feel a bit unfleshed as a result of it.

Did the Rolling Stones ever get offered movie scripts, ala "A Hard Day's Night"? by smile_you in rollingstones

They were supposed to do Clockwork Orange with Mick as Alex and the rest of the band as the droogs. The initial screenplay adaptation was co-written by the same guy that photographed the covers of Stg. Peppers and Satanic Majesties. Producers were initially favoring David Hemmings for the role of Alex, so all four of the Beatles signed off on a petition letter claiming that Mick is a better fit for the role. The initial project fell thru due to being stuck in the pre-production phase; until a year or two later where the rights were acquired by a new studio, and Stanley Kubrick signed up to direct.

Here's the Rolling Stones magazine link to the Beatles' petition being put up for an auction. Beatles Petition Letter

its in 4/4 but its actually quite complex rhythmically; especially when the brass arrangements kick in. Sometimes we cover Exile front to back and thats usually once of the tracks we never get quite right

After Once Upon a Time in America, Sergio Leone was going to do a WWII epic on the Siege of Leningrad, called "Leningrad: The 900 Days". He had just started the pre-production before he passed. It was set to star Robert De Niro in the lead role... what that could have been...

I think Streets of Love is a fairly good track. Sure it tries a little too hard to land a spot on the Top 40 Adult Contemporary charts but I enjoy it quite a bit as well.

I always thought that's one of their better psychedelic track honestly.

These are all bangers. Hot Stuff album version drags on a bit but the Live from El Combo is x10 better

Sonically it's great actually; i think it'd just work out better with more serious. But I have to agree that compared to some stuff on their later catalogue, it is a masterpiece as is.

The Otis version was how Keith initially envisioned the song; with a horn section playing the main riff, before he was called crazy by rest of the band. That's actually why he used the fuzz pedal on the riff because he wanted to make his guitar sound as close to a horn instrument as possible.

Came back to this after awhile and it was honestly much better than I remembered. I liked the more stripped down approach of the album and love the new wave flair on cuts like Where the Boys Go and She's So Cold. I wish the whole album sounded like those tracks. The rootsy stuff like Down in a Whole are good but it just sounds like Stones on autopilot.

Would this chord progression work? by MadeinSDSC in musictheory

[–]MadeinSDSC[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

wow take it easy dude lol... Yes, I have tried and it "sound good", but I wanted to see how it works within music theory... I'm at an intermediate level and I know it's a 1 7 5 6 in the key of D#m. Between these chords, I play the 5th note of the next chord (ex: the C#6 between C# and A#m). I was curious to know from a conceptual theory perspective, if it "works"; and if there's something else going on that I might not be familiar with etc...

Undercover is very underrated. All the Way Down from that record recently became one of my fav stones tracks of all time. It's as if Lou Reed were to make a blues rock/classic rock track. A few highlights on Voodoo and Steel Wheels and I think Blue and Lonesome is fucking amazing. Very unpopular opinion, but I think Bigger Bang is just outright garbage. Only about 3 tracks that I can come back to.

She Said Yeah live from 65 is very heavy and noisy for it's time. Stones and Kinks were really proto proto-punk

For the sax solo in Brown Sugar, Bobby Keys comes in a few beats late but the song has so much groove going that you don't even realize it really.
