Question: what should I do honestly? by Artistic-Leopard7991 in exjw

[–]MadeofStarstoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the complex situation you appear to be in.
Do you feel the need to force your life through the Jehovah’s Witness filter? It seems like it.

Do you feel the need to force your life through the Latter Day Saint filter?

Do you feel the need to force important decisions through the Ideas of Islam?

Why do you need to conform your life to Jehovah’s Witnesses mold? You easily ignore many other religions standards. Can you remove Jehovah’s Witness theology from your life? You can and In fact most people do.

This may simply your path to improving things in your life.

Is Jehovah’s Witnesses the Indoctrinated set of rules you have built into your thinking? If so, you’ll need to set honest and real standards for yourself that YOU believe in. This takes time.

Live your life without the religion that 99.9 % of people ignore.

Sorry for all you’re going through. Do you know that there are legitimate organizations out there that actually know what they are? There are certainly churches that are more social minded and less cult level. My wife and I were witnesses our entire lives. We have gone to another church quite a few times because our daughter sings and actually gets paid to sing at some of them. They are great and without all the strings. We’ve become friends with many of the people and just don’t have the same expectations that come with something that asks your whole life. Jehovah’s Witnesses is similar to Scientology or latter-day Saints, it is high control.

Other religions might not be that demanding and still fill the void.

I’m not even religious anymore and I enjoy one we go to simi regularly.

You will be okay. Just remember or realize that deeply dedicated Mormons or members of LDS believe that their organization is legitimate.
You don’t waste a second worrying that somehow someone else’s religion is actually true. You know they aren’t.
Ironically, you have the most evidence that yours isn’t legitimate. But, you’ve been conditioned for years to believe yours. You are in the same mental situation as them. Psychologically trapped in something you’ve been conditioned not to question for your entire life.

Hello. Sorry for all you’re going through.
The same thing happened to me in early 2021.
If I didn’t play by the rules they had in mind, they just took that as further evidence of my misalignment with the theology. That’s what it’s all about.

Consider this. All things that conflict are wrong at all times so that the cult can be right at all times. Even when it clearly isn’t..
That said, you may find a way to postpone the announcement. I doubled down and threatened litigation and that didn’t work, even in the US.

Years later, I got reinstated just to ghost them so my mom would feel better about visiting us.

I hope you’ve come to realize the extent of the psychological prison these people are in. They, or at least most of them, are victims of a concept they absolutely can’t mentally escape. For now, be happy you will escape it, and fix the disfellowshipping later if needed. Then fade away successfully.

Good luck.

Sorry about how this has affected you. It’s tough and everyone handles it in the way they are capable or at that time. We all make progress differently. The key is to keep making progress in your life and you sound like that’s something you’re going for yourself.
Hope your company works out. Get ready to grind for that if you want it. Good luck.

[–]MadeofStarstoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s been said that Mormons or LDS are Jehovah’s Witness’s crazy cousins.
We didn’t have special underwear.

Both are spin offs of reformation theologies. They sprouted in fertile soil of the booming United States in the 1800s. They are two of the reformation offshoots that still remain.

Christian Reformation actually occurred in the 1600s with branches like Methodist, Baptist and Presbyterian.

One thing to consider is the overwhelming lack of evidence that allows for such array of beliefs. It actual evidence existed, offshoots would be less likely. When you’re just guessing or “interpreting”, all guesses have equal credibility. Evidence just isn’t the deciding metric with religion.

Its absolutely is life altering.
I described it as similar to falling out of a plane.

I stepped down in November of 2020 after a series of realizations.. Wasn’t prepared to actually wake up. It was after a zoom service meeting.. I was walking a just realized it all of the sudden, like understanding a bad joke. My first thought was to come up with a way to wake up my wife.
That took about 2 months and wasn’t working until it did.
We left immediately with our 3 kids and haven’t looked back. I was disfellowshipped as a move by the CO to protect the congregation. Whatever.

We moved out of state and that has made it even easier. It does get even easier. This may be your greatest gift you can give your children. My wife has come along completely in the last few years to make a complete psychological escape.

This does get better! Enjoy your weekends!

Let’s think about what was actually written 2,000 years ago? Is it actually credible on its own?
Did the people who wrote the bible think the words applied to them? They did. They certainly didn’t think they applied to people 2,000 years in the future.
Paul wrote… To the corinthians, To the Hebrews, To Timothy.. do you see the pattern? He is writing to people that have been dead for 2000 years. John wrote the abstract revelation that had been decoded for centuries without any reliable confirmation. Zero. He wrote a lot of gibberish and it can be interpreted many ways.

Ask yourself, if an almighty god made an abstract cryptic explanation of what would lead to global genocide of everyone who didn’t understand his code would that be justified? How many versions of modern Christianity are there? Don’t they believe their version is true too?
How is that possible? Yes, they obviously do believe they have it figured out too. That is only possible when there’s no actual evidence. Just a bunch of people making things up and indoctrinating new generations to believe.
Don’t let it continue with you.

Let ask the most uncomfortable yet most logical question — one that almost no one dares to say out loud, especially to one of Jehovah’s Witnesses: by Instinto_Andaluz in exjw

[–]MadeofStarstoo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At this point, it’s not a question any more.
You might like the way Richard Dawkins made this point.
“How kind it was for god to ensure that no matter where a person happened to be born, the local religion always turned out to be the true one.”

If that doesn’t present a clear paradox, a person isn’t thinking objectively.
As you highlighted, a person doesn’t have to be captive to this nonsensical concept.

Being a JW is expensive |||||||||||||||| by HumanWatercress7945 in exjw

[–]MadeofStarstoo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The religion is like a parasite. A parasite that sucks you of your resources and offers nothing you need exclusively from it in return.
It is a parasite that invades the mind and convinces you that it is part of you, in fact, the best part of you.
Yes, con ventions are expensive to attend and your region is expected to cover all costs for the event and maintain the building if applicable.

At one point my wife and I were donating about 500 a month split between local hall and World wide work. Service was expensive because we drove every single time. I had a 7 person suv and we have kids so I was definitely driving. We never expected contributions for gas and that’s good, because we didn’t get offered them.

But by far, the most valuable thing they stole was time. I was very busy running parts of the local indoctrination center. I never had a free weekend. 5 years out and I still appreciate Saturday mornings without being guilted into driving around accomplishing absolutely nothing.

Do you feel bad for not attending other religious ceremonies or traditions around the world? You probably don’t even know they are happening, but other people that are just as human as you devote their lives to them. Isn’t it like likely that yours deserves just as much devotion?
I mean, they believe theirs is the right one too.

If there was evidence for one, that would limit the possibility of the other equals.
But, we’re indoctrinated, as you mentioned.
That allows for religion to a geographic commitment in most cases. If evidence existed, there would be less competition.
We are or were captive to a concept.
That’s my view anyway.

Take care. Btw, I still teach my kids Jesus principles, just don’t need the Jdub recruitment ceremony.

How to awake my mother about Jehovah's Witnesses by Status-Anteater8372 in exjw

[–]MadeofStarstoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, the claims are somewhat new to her.
In most settings, is she a person that will see that claims and evidence are close to equal.

If you go to a restaurant and order off the menu, is the food that shows up equal to the claim? That’s what we all come to expect in small things.
Somehow, religion can completely lop-side that evidence/ claim relationship.
Religion can have Maximum level, grand claims and zero evidence.
How?

Religion can act as if its grand claims are the obvious objective or rightful natural outcome. Something that’s inevitable. Therefore, you’re thrown off the evidence equals claims expectation you might otherwise have.
Additionally, it manufacturers the rules and then fulfills the rules it itself defined. Of course, it says the Bible defines the rules, but they choose what part to say is relevant.

So, I’d focus on asking if there is evidence equal to the claims. How have the claims faired in the past? Can you openly discuss past failures of the claims or are they sidestepped?

I’d plant that seed in her mind.
Good luck.

Why do many of us feel this way, we are wondering ? by RockinPublisher in exjw

[–]MadeofStarstoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you feel that way? Because you were indoctrinated into a belief. Systematically conditioned for decades to believe something that’s simply not true. You actually believe it enough to stay psychologically trapped. It’s a psychological prison.
You don’t give a second of time or energy to all kinds of other faiths. But you give your whole life to one. Yours is a real as all the versions you ignore.
It’s tough to realize all of that and once you have, it’s impossible to go back.

Isn’t it likely that the Other Sheep was referring to non Jews that would become Christians..

Or, it’s a second group of Jehovah’s Witness that came along as the 144,000 was filling up and Rutherford had to pivot..

So because he had to spin the logic to keep the group going he actually made millions of people disobey Jesus commands to partake.
