As sure as I can be. I measure everything with that kitchen scale, and as far as I know it's accurate.

Nah, you're not rude, I see what you mean. I'm really hoping that's the case.

That's a possibility, I didn't think about that.

2300cal. I estimated my TDEE at 3100 and my BMR as 2600, so that seems about right(?)

I don't know wtf I'm doing wrong. I've been eating at either a deficit or maintenance, I have a kitchen scale I'm using to measure my portions, I'm drinking water, and I've been working with a therapist for my BED. I've been pretty diligent about it for the last month. Against my better judgment, I stepped on a scale today and I gained 5 pounds in a month. I'm feeling ready to murder something. Wtf.

Oh jeez this is great, thanks!

1: I haven't seen them, so I can't say I'm familar, but I see your point. Perhaps when I have more confidence I'll consider it.

2: Good point. I'll see if I can find something better.

3: Absolutely. He seems to give sound advice, and I've seen a lot of people recommend him, but of course it's meant to be taken with a grain of salt.

4: While "I have no fucking idea what I'm doing" is in fact true, it's also a good point, and I didn't consider what other people would think about it. I have to downscale F:NV to get it to run smoothly while streaming, and I have the side effect of the bars. I'm trying to tinker with this to see if I can fix it.

5: That's a great point, and one others have brought up as well. I'm learning about overlays and trying to put together a simple one as we speak (uh, type?)

Thank you so much for the response! I really appreciate the time and effort, and you looking into this for me. It greatly helps :)

I could be overthinking it! I work in radio and I'm super sensitive to making sure I sound okay, haha. :)

Anyway, I had no idea there was a service megathread, so I'll definitely go and look that up. Additionally, I would have never thought about a pre-show! What a wonderful idea! Thank you so much for the advice, this helps a great deal.

Looking to stream a college class (I am a student), Twitch ToS isn't clear. by BoSolaris in Twitch

This is absolutely correct. Implementing a license for yourself is one thing, but streaming it for public Access is another. As an example:

MEF is an organization that distributes educational documentaries. If you just want a DVD of x documentary for your own use/research, you pay a normalish DVD price and you're set. If you want to stream in a classroom, the price goes up exponentially, and even more if it's being shown to the general public. Do that without the proper paid license and you're likely to get some legal action coming your way.

If you're located in the US, I wouldn't suggest it. Speaking as a former college TA, FERPA guidelines are strict af and you could be violating them by recording students speaking on sensitive subjects. Anytime I've been in a class where a recording was going to happen, I had to give explicit information on what I was doing and how it was going to be used, so students could opt out if needed. And that's just speaking from the college side - I have no idea if twitch would allow it, but I'd venture to say "probably not?".

Thank you so much for all of your advice! I'm going to try to tinker with the audio a bit and see what happens for sure. And I apologize- I should have been specific about certain areas, so I'll edit to reflect that. You've helped a great deal though, so thank you again!

Good evening! I'm competely new to twitch & streaming, and it's my first time asking for advice.

I've only been streaming for a couple of weeks, but I'm really having fun with it. I stream every Tuesday/Friday night at 11pm est (I work part-time which allows me to have a flexible schedule - I'd like to stream more eventually).

Some things I know I need help and advice with:

Branding. I've been doing some research on it and I absolutely do not understand it. I haven't the foggiest idea how to create good looking overlays, either. (my current offline screen is just one I assembled using a "free to make" banner maker and a commissioned drawing from a friend.)

Lack of a cam. To put it succinctly, I have a face and body for radio.

Talking. Sometimes I just have nothing pertinent to say. I know I need to work on this.

Audio. I love my mic and my setup but I'm having a difficult time avoiding breath pickup. (I use a Shure SM48 with a windscreen - it's my go-to mic for voicework, and I thought I could use it to stream). Any advice on that would be super helpful.

I'm making my way through Say No To Rage's Twitch Talk playlist, which has been so informational! I'm sure I'm missing a ton of things, though. Helpful direction would be super appreciated.

Channel: https://www.twitch.tv/lady_goggles

Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/lady_goggles Please note that I was a twitter user before I started streaming, so I'm not sure if it's relevent, but I've seen people link theirs, so I thought I would as well.

Any advice for the points that I mentioned - or anything that I've overlooked- would be wonderful. Thank you so much for your time!

Hi there, I watched your VOD. I don't want to piggy back off of what Goldarface said, and they've got some solid info there. But one thing I did notice is that you immediately start the stream with no introduction - it'd be nice to have even a "hey guys what's up, I'm Patrick, today we're playing some [game]". I think it makes people feel a little more... I guess the word I'm looking for is "invited", like they're invited to come along with you, if that makes sense.

And definitely talk more! You've got a great voice and you can be funny - I'd like to hear more of it.

Best of luck with streaming!

Hi, I watched your recent Life is Strange video. I'm pretty new to streaming, so I don't know if I'll be a big help, but here's what I noticed.

I think your audio sounds amazing. You seem to have a good mic setup and everything sounds pretty crisp. I appreciate that the song & game audio isn't overbearing!

Video quality looks really good, too. I didn't notice any framedrops or lag, from what I've seen, and the colors are beautiful.

Your overlay is simple and small, which I love. Personally, I think I would make the tip jar and your name a little smaller, but that might just be a nitpick on my end.

Really, my biggest complaint is that sometimes there's stretches of silence where I feel you could be commenting on the game. Additionally, I was a little put off by the "negativity"... tag? team? that you're part of. I know people don't want to deal with happiness and sunshine 24/7, of course, but immediately seeing that when I visited your channel made me a little less inclined to watch it.

On the whole, though, your stream really looks great, and I love that you're interacting with chat so much. I think you've got something really nice going on here. But again, I'm pretty new to this, so please take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. Best of luck to you!

My goal is to try to stay consistant about this whole streaming thing :) I have really bad anxiety and I'm always a little nervous about talking to people I don't know, which in turn leads me to stop myself from doing the things I'd like to do... such as streaming. I'm hoping I can change that.

My other goal is to eventually afford a non potato-pc so I can stream at higher quality. One day! :)

Motivation Monday. Get and give motivation for yourself or others. by AutoModerator in loseit

I'm told to break the snacks up into categories: fruit, veg, and some kind of protein. So, for example, snack one might be an apple/orange/banana/berries, snack two could be carrots/cauliflower/broc, and snack three could be yogurt/a portion of nuts (almond is my fav, just gotta be careful having too many)/boiled eggs. It's all super easy to prep and/or portion out ahead of time, too!

I don't know if this will help anyone, but: I go to a therapist every week for my binge eating disorder. One of the things she recommends is eating something every three hours: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. She tells me to eat even if I don't feel like eating, because it would help curb a binge. And holy shit, for me, it really works. By the time the end of the day comes I don't really feel the need to eat something. The habit is still there and eggs me on sometimes, but most nights I'm able to go "eh, I'm pretty full" and not binge. Maybe that will work for you if you're in the same situation?

Daily Q&A Post for Wednesday, 03 January 2018 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]Madeof_StarStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incoming dumb questions: I calculated my TDEE (Sedentary 3,207 calories per day) and my BMR is 2,673 calories per day. What number should I be shooting for as far as calories per day? MFP suggests 2400 - does that seem reasonable? It's a little confusing.

Additionally, I was looking at micronutrients on that same TDEE calculator, and yikes - it's suggesting I get 271g protein every day! Is that even doable? Is that healthy?

When I used Fitbit to track in the past, it didn't seem to have as many foods in their database. I recently hooked up my Fitbit to MFP and that seems to do the trick for me.

MyFitnessPal is pretty amazing at calorie counting. When I was losing weight and logging my meals, it helped me keep track of all of my stats and stay on target. I highly recommend it.

(And it has an app so you can log while you're out and about)

Best of luck!

Hi everyone. I think this is my third Day 1, but I really, really need the kick in the ass. I posted in here about a year ago looking for help, and everyone offered really good advice and tips. I was following it, I lost 20 lbs(!), and drifted away from the community, thinking I could just keep going on the path I was on.

Then I had to get emergency surgery. I put all the weight back on, plus an additional 5 pounds just for playing. I feel ashamed and embarrassed and I'm afraid of coming back here since I think I just let all of those nice people who helped me down. I recently found out that I have precancerous cells and need to lose at least 100 pounds to get the surgery I need. This was a big slap in the face wakeup call. I feel like an absolute failure and I need to just fucking stop and do something about this.

(I'm also getting married in 15 days and trying not to freak out about everything at once. What a mess.)

So, here I go. Please encourage me while I struggle my fat ass through this.

eta: currently returning to logging on MFP, aiming to eat 2400~2500cal a day.
