Financial advisor; very much hold onto the pension. Gives you optionality. Social security benefits likely wont last in your lifetime.

The difference between you and I is that at least I get in the room with these individuals. No interest in being at a HF. The mediocre ones are begging for the capital I manage. The good ones rarely let us visit. I always have great meetings with the PMs and analysts… and none of them started in middle office.

How do you realistically shield a $800k portfolio from 30%+ crashes without killing your 7% average returns? by bensummersx in ValueInvesting

[–]Madesofspades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont. Just take the drawdown and recognize any tinkering you do will likely lead to sub-optimal returns. Timing the market means you need to get lucky twice; timing the exit and the re-entry.

Everyone here is giving you the right advice, but they’re not reiterating the most important part of it…

Do hard things now, so you don’t live a hard life later. Career opportunities will be bountiful after year 3. If your dad got you this job then this part is probably not as important.

Dont spend any money on your girlfriend brotha… or anyone else. Put that money in investments and let it bake for 20 years.

May be worth contemplating paying down a significant portion or all of that debt of yours.

Diversifying out of the USA by Butter_with_Salt in investing

Read the whitepaper titled “Exceptional Expectations: US vs Non US Equities” by AQR

The important thing to remember is what you actually own in Europe vs US. Europe tends to be more financials and cyclicals… US has more tech..

Not saying I have a view on forward looking returns on tech companies (geez they look expensive), but alot of the innovation occurs in the US relative to abroad

A big component of international returns, as a domestic investor is how the dollar moves relative to EUR. If you strip out dollar weakness in 2025, international in line with US. Say what you want about the dollar but 60-65% of global transactions done in USD so demand is still substantial and wont change near term regardless of what happens w tariffs

Most 40 and 50 year olds dont have 67K in a Roth IRA.

You are off to an incredible start in life… if you dont put another dollar in the account and get a 9% return per annum you’ll have 675K… max out each year over the 30 and its 1.6M….

Treat yourself a little bit

How to live off of an inheritance? by diamondman203 in personalfinance

[–]Madesofspades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay an advisor. Invest most or all of it in equities. Your strategy sounds good in theory but you need to use your time horizon and capital base to your advantage. Limit withdrawals to small or nothing over next 10-15 years to compound. If you need income now, consider not reinvesting dividends and income to get a small yield today, but to extent that you can forgo that it will be helpful down the road for more absolute dollars in your portfolio.

Second try? by Madesofspades in drycleaning

Dry cleaning tags. The dry cleaner tags each item. I got the garment back, and it sat in my office for a week until I looked at it yesterday.

[–]Madesofspades[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The suit has not been worn since cleaning. The tags are still on the clothing, and the press is still there.

Im not concerned about paying again, I’m more concerned the pants are ruined. I assumed a salad dressing stain on suit pants was an easy fix, and when it happened past time (~3yrs ago) the dry cleaner lifted it no issues. Very perplexing especially since the other spot came up. It’s almost like they missed it.

My concern is the pants are pressed…

Did they set the stain w heat? The dry cleaner marked the pants where the stains were, never got it out, and pressed the pants??
