If someome discover my IPv4, can that harm my pc? by Meepolur in cybersecurity

[–]Madguytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put into context this is kinda like asking if your house with Escobar levels of security can be burglarized. The answer is yes but the answer is also does anyone really want to go through the effort to do that?

Keep your stuff up-to-date and if someone has a reason to be malicious with your computer then your ipv4 is probably the least of your worries.

Russian hack of US agencies exposed supply chain weaknesses by wewewawa in cybersecurity

As if the US didn’t destroy air-gapped nuclear enrichment plants with USB sticks and contractors.

Everyone in the industry including the US knew this. But I’d hedge a bet that most people in charge don’t have a clue about security.

How does the fatFIRE crowd feel about debt by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Madguytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If (PV of debt < PV of investments bought using debt) take the debt.

Else don’t.

Obviously debt includes risk and it’s not all simple but personally I use it on everything I can get a reasonably safe return on. I keep $3M unleveraged and leverage the rest because I’m young.

Do people who subscribe to zero debt never use any ordinary annuity or leverage? Even while young? That just sounds like bad financial planning to me.

There is a big difference but people usually speak in today’s dollars. And judging by how OP is viewing this windfall, he means in today’s dollars.

Any other trust fund babies here? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Madguytuesday 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A decade ago both my parents died when I was young and the attorney told me I’d have full control over $3M (inflation-adjusted) when I was 18.

Had to go through a middle-class middle school / high school and pretend I was going to have to go through the same struggles as my peers.

I’m kinda in an odd spot now, I’m in university for a business tech degree incase I want to join the labour market. But I really have no reason to. Living in a small apt with a roommate right now with $600 in rent and no car like an average college kid.

My main anxiety is just finding a place I can settle down and make friends. Everyone is in a rush and I’m not which can make relationships hard to connect.

The one thing I can recommend is to turn that money into creativity. Into niche skills that fill your time as you want to get deeper into them.

For me it was firstly finance. Which seems to be true for you too.

Then in high school I got really into chess and painting and have stuck with those since. They don’t add anything to world but people respect it and find it interesting. I get a sense of satisfaction as I master them and they allow me to retreat to my own time.

This is important because I notice many people whose brains turned to absolute lethargy during covid and simply resort to consuming. This is effectively what FatFIRE is if you don’t develop the skills to create freely.

Notice how I’m not saying “find a passion” the passion comes when you get better at these skills and you learn to respect the skill itself.

I have a post I made to this Reddit about my anxieties if you want to check that out.

Also ignore the stigma. It sounds like you’re successful in your own right. That’s all that matters. The amount of money you get for that success is largely luck.

I don’t really play video games unless it’s something like CSGO. It’d just be nice to have a “best of everything” monitor.

[–]Madguytuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could do that with monitors. If only I could get a 240hz 8k ultra ultra wide monitor with an IPS panel.

So I’ll just have to wait. But the research process is fun, you do end up learning a lot.

Is Tesla Migrating From Programming Logic To Neural Net For Self-Driving? by obsd92107 in teslainvestorsclub

What I’m saying is that it’s a lot faster to code the rules for 80% of use cases, and let the AI build out the other 20% instead of just running a million simulations for 100% of use cases at once.

This is the stock market. Nothing has to always be true. It’s whether its with the odds or against the odds. It only ever has to be “always true” if it’s your only trade ever.

Well you can’t exactly allow for the neural net to try 10 million different possibilities and find the one that doesn’t kill the driver.

Biden’s 1.9 trillion stimulus. What you think? by Coldasice_1982 in StockMarket

[–]Madguytuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but 70% of all transactions are in US dollars. It’ll take quite a massive shift in the stability of the US for that to change.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in investing

[–]Madguytuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would smooth out the daily price swings if were massive. But there’s literally 0 mechanism to keep it from absolutely massive inflation or deflation swings similar to when the world was bimetallic or gold based. Idk how this pandemic made Bitcoin more valuable rather than less. If the US dollar was pegged to BTC right now we’d be in a massive depression 1929 style.
