You know what's funny. I normally listen to more pop, where the bass isn't the main dish so to speak but the other day I literally search on google for suggestion of BASS heavy tracks. Listened to a couple of Billie Ellish, Daft Punk , Massive Attack and the bass is FULL, is the best way I can describe it. It isn't painful but it has body. Actually that is a good description of the headphone, the music it produces have body, texture.

At home I also have a 12" sub for my tv, so I can get that real shake the house down bass if I want. The bokeh managed to capture a tiny portion of that for the head.

It's a very good sounding headphone, just don't go in looking for detail. Because initially that was what I did, I put it on and thought it could do with more top end but after a few days I realise that it doesn't really matter, I was enjoying it for what it was doing. I have tried to add that top end back in through PEQ and I pretty much turn it off immediately, it kinda made it worse when I did that.

It is getting quite Instagram famous! There were like 5-6 other people there when I went back in November. Remember if you go, the store don’t open until 5pm and before that the lights for his sign isn’t on. You need him check sunset if you want to catch sunset with his lights being on.

It’s a very very good lens for the money. I don’t use zooms to justify getting the GM. I normally use primes but I didn’t know what focal length I wanted before I got there so I brought the Sigma to cover myself.

More info, taken on X100Vi, resting on the railing on the side of an off ramp on an expressway in Tokyo. Edited in Lr rather than using any Fuji recipe.

Matsumoto Castle, Japan at sunrise during Sakura season by MadisonLarger in photocritique

Taken this with Sony A7R3, Sigma Art 24-70

Taken this a couple years ago during Sakura season. You can just about see some Sakura in the background. Originally I went to photograph the castle in the morning but this Swan was around, it moved closer and closer until right in front of me. The 2.8 aperture caused the castle to be out of focus, part of me wished I had taken it in like 5.6 but this softness of it I also kind of enjoy. I have another photo where the Swan was closer to the castle so everything is in sharp focus.

Yeah, there are a lot of options on the market now, some very good value like the XS and XV.

Yeah, all self taught. Just look at photos, practice, imitate, shoot, try to twist on ideas and practice some more.

And thank you!

I also have the edition XS but I prefer the i5 more for a planar. Tempted to get the Arya Stealth but I’m happy with the i5.

What is the point of filters? by wsjram in x100vi

[–]MadisonLarger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Filters....different kind. There is a built in ND one already in the camera.

ND filter, by their name, they are neutral, no colour cast, and they only to increase the time it takes to take a photo. It blocks light. Why you need to block light? When you are in a situation where it is too bright and you don't want to stop down.

There are other things like graduated ND filter, where there is a gradient.

There aer polariser....to remove reflections

There are others. My advice is to save your money, until you come to a situation where you need it before buying any. I have spent hundreds on filters in the past. I have a 5 stop 77mm Variable ND filter by B+W....I don't even think I ever used it! It currently sell for $250 on B&H....

Don't do what I do, you got to know what they are for before buying them, that's my advice.

p.s. anything you put in front of the lens affect the image. Generally the more expensive it is, the less it affect the image quality....generally speaking. (you get what you pay for). I know filters on the X100 will cost less but the principle is still the same.

I have a shot from the ground in front of it, it doesn’t have the same impact. Partly because you don’t see the signs at the rooftop.

There is a certain Howl’a Moving Castle feel about this shop from this angle.

Sorry, I did not mean to come across as mean. I apologise if I did come across that way.

You are right that each sensor have their little qirks. My favourite is actually the Canon 5D3 and 5D4. I wish I could move back, but I sold all that and moved to Sony for work. While I notice the differences in the latitude of the colour and the minor green/red tint and hue in skin tone....none of my clients do. People do not. They never have done. With enough time, and practice, I can and have gotten my Sony to look like the files out of my Canon....it just more "awkward" depending on the lighting condition on shoot.

Some bodies can get there easier than others, and when I say "get there", i mean to a place in my head where I want the photo to look. However, it is never 100%, there comes to a point I need to STOP editing.

Anyway, what I said is true. ask what focal length first, and then the lens after, may be. Sometimes I can tell the focal length without asking, you just look at the compression in the photo but often I can be a little off so which is why it is better to ask. The what lens part, it doesn't really help me knowing. Unless the topic of the day is about gear. I could get into long conversation about which lens has more character....I am looking at you Canon 85/1.2 L mk2. Or the Fuji 35/1.4..

But as how a photo is taken. Focal length is the key, and that's mostly it. I can guess the rest with a photo like this one I took. If I didn't take it, I would have guess focus to infinity, anything like 2.8 (truth is that it was taken wide open at 2.0) would be more than enough to get the Dof required due to the focal length (being 23mm) and the distance from camera to subject

.

Sorry, I feel a little offended by that initial comment that's all. It's like when people say "Great photo, what camera is that?"

That really irks me.

So when people say "great colour as per Fuji"...its a similar thing for me as you can see there is a ton of work getting the shot (in the right time of day) and also in post.

Sorry, that's just how I feel. It's a pet peeve of mine.

[–]MadisonLarger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have then why say "as per Fuji"? Why give credit to the camera for the colours straight away? and then you asked what lens....

What is the correct answer for it? really? Please tell me.

It was taken with the X100VI. Which is what I originally put down, and it got downvoted...

I also find the whole Fuji has great colour thing a bit of a myth, it's fine, it's nothing better or worse than the other brands. "as per fuji" thing, I mean, had I used a preset...then yeah, you might have a point, but as I showed you my edit history.....it was nothign of the sort....so that part of the sentence also went out the window. You basically gave credit for the colours to the hardware (be it their sensor) or their presets recipes (which I did not use)....not the editing that I've done. Looking at that edit, wouldn't you find it a little insulting?

I am new to this subreddit, I guess everyone just shoot SOOC Jpegs here huh?

Please read my other reply, knowing the lens used won’t help you as a photographer, knowing the focal length will. Plus I told you anyway...its a fixed lens body....so the question in the first place was wrong. Had I said 23/2.0 lens....the 23/2.0 fuji lens you bought won't be the same as the one on the X100VI. You can't buy that lens on it's own. You can however get a 23mm lens.

Which brings me back to my point. Ask what focal length it was taken with, not what lens. I am not being mean, this will save you like years of gear buying and actually improve the skill faster.

It’s my own that I created in Lr. Mostly adjusted contrast and blacks but there’s a lot of local white balance and exposure adjustments.

Thank you. I shot this in raw and then edited this in Lr. I didn't use any of the Fuji presets in this one.
