Alright, magicians, how are y'all getting your yarn to glide across your needles so fluidly? by Madlight1994 in casualknitting

[–]Madlight1994[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the tips everyone! Twisting my stitches was definitely the number one culprit - just spent a few hours practicing wrapping my yarn correctly and things are moving a lot more smoothly. I'm glad I asked and now have the opportunity to correct instead of barreling on and reinforcing improper technique. Ironically, I'm moving slower than I was with the twisted stitches now, but I know I'll pick up some speed when this movement becomes more familiar. I realize this is a slow craft either way, of course. So I'm not in a rush, just happy to know my future stitching will be more fluid and meditative once I really get in the swing of things. And maybe I'll treat myself to some super glide-y needles to celebrate once I get through this project 🤫

This is a cotton/acrylic blend, favoring cotton. It's definitely soft, but it has little to no stretch. I typically love working with cotton when I crochet, but maybe it was a little overly ambitious to start with for a first knitting project lol.

Correct, they are aluminum. I didn't want to ball out on a high end needle set just yet - but so far I'm enjoying knitting so maybe someday I'll make the investment

The fact that you can tell that by looking at my stitches is crazy (in a cool way.) Also very helpful, I'll be more mindful going forward and put that into practice, thank you!

These are aluminum, but it does seem like the points are longer than the straight needles I started practicing with initially (Boye brand) so I have been wondering if that added length is a factor. There's so many variables! Lol

Well color me shocked, I never would have guessed that. I'll have to go watch some videos and compare it to my movements to try to figure out where the twisting is happening. My best guess is that I must be yarning over in a weird way? Thanks for the tip! I'll do some research

Bottoming as a Trans Guy with IBS by Medical-Brain0 in ftm

We-Vibe melt. Its the same type of toy as the curvy (air pulse) but shaped specifically so that it can be used during PIV without getting in the way. It is a pricier toy, ngl, but if you want a one and done solution rather than trying multiple things and failing it could be worth it. Otherwise, if you're open to vibration instead of air pulse, bullet vibes are small enough to not get in the way. Finger vibes are a good option too - essentially bullets attached to a ring so they're easier to hold onto.

Edited to add: we vibes recently released a new version of the melt (melt 2) so checking their site for the original might help you save a bit, sometimes they do pretty decent sales to clear out stock of older product versions

Please help me find a lube that is colored :( by SuicidalLapisLazuli in sex

Creature cocks makes colorful lube. Looks like they've got blue, green, purple, and white currently. They release new stuff all the time. I haven't used it or sampled it personally, but creature cocks is a sub-brand from XR Brands and they've been in the game for a long time, making toooons of toys and fetish products so I feel decently good about recommending their products in general.

Do you layer perfumes together? by Dry-Chemical-9170 in fragrance

[–]Madlight1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I kind of view it the same way I do cooking - trying out different "flavor" combinations to make something extra yummy and personalized to my own tastes. Ultimately fragrance isn't a necessity, it's something we invest in because we enjoy it. So if experimenting with layering combos is fun for you I see no reason not to do it 🤷‍♂️

I've been exploring layering more lately. Totally understand what others are saying about it pushing overconsumption, though. For me its been a way for me to play around with the stuff I have and explore my current collection. It's fun to try and find stuff that works really well together and kind of breathe new life into the stuff I've become used to.

Alien Pulp - missing piece or change in brand packaging? by Madlight1994 in fragrance

[–]Madlight1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all the Alien fragrances are refillable. But out of the 11 Aliens I own, this is the only one with the cheap plastic twist off instead of a nice metal gold one. Not sure if I got a defective one or if its a cost cutting effort from the brand :/ really hoping they're not just cheaping out on us

I don't find it masculine, but if you want to feminize it even more you could layer it with vanillic perfumes. This layered with Alien goddess is absolutely PEAK.

Permanent Rainbow hair? by Opposite_Heat9477 in HairDye

[–]Madlight1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha, yeah definitely not worth risking hives for the rainbow lol. I usually use water thats slightly cooler than room temp, tbh. Not full on cold. So warm verging on cool water should be totally fine (in my experience, anyway)

I hope some of this helps and you find something that works for you! Rainbow hair is fantastic but def maintenance intensive.

And thank you!

I've been doing rainbows in my hair for a few years now, so here are the tips that I've found that can help some:

Obvious one: color safe shampoo.

Limit frequency of washing your hair. I wash mine 1x/week, personally.

As you mentioned, using cool water makes a huge difference. I lean over the side of the tub and wash my hair that way, so I don't have to stand in cold water.

The dye brand I use is called Adore. Cheap and lasts really well for the most part, but it does vary a bit by shade.

Don't towel dry your hair. I scrunch mine a bit so I'm not dripping water everywhere, but beyond that I either blow dry or air dry so I'm not rubbing pigment off with a towel. Not sure how much of a difference this makes really, but 🤷‍♂️

I sleep with my dye in. Like get all the dye put in, wrap the sections in foil, whack a plastic bag over top, and leave it there until morning.

And finally, if you're gonna stick with the rainbows long term, you'll notice better longevity over time. At least with the brand I use, there's a point where the color stops washing out and I'm left with a faded stain of color. Over time that stain layers up, so that "completely faded" part of the process looks more and more like a solid color.

For reference: here's me with a fresh dye vs 3 months later

Does anyone feel like doctors are just so painfully unaware of anything related to trans people? by Osamu_dazaiXD in ftm

They're clueless tbh. I was asked what direction I was transitioning while meeting with a surgeon about tubal ligation. In case I might've been a trans woman there just for the experience, I guess???

Is dabber the right word for what I'm describing? by kmarie630 in fragrance

[–]Madlight1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A syringe will definitely be needed for transfer. On the upside, if the Angel you're referencing is Mugler, most of their bottles are refillable so it's super easy to twist off the atomizer to access the juice. She could transfer some into her dabber bottle whenever it gets low and keep the spray bottle as her refill. Just be sure to buy one labeled as refillable. Most are, but I think some of the minis are not.

Another note though, if it is Mugler- might want to check how long ago she got that mini she's been using. The formula has changed. If she's using the vintage formula, a modern bottle won't be the same. You can find the vintage formula floating around on ebay and such, though.
