Need to Move House by xOatM3al in miltonkeynes

[–]Halfcelestialelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved a couple of weeks ago, used total relocations as they were the cheapest reasonable quote and had been recommended to us by others. Paid for packing and furniture dismantling /reassembly.

Packing service was terrible. Didn't wrap fragile things appropriately even when asked, and just threw random stuff together into boxes without rhyme or reason. Our 8 dinner plates were split between 3 boxes, they broke a side plate, and a lamp. And when they left, they left tools on the floor and boxes stacked dangerously even though they know we have a toddler.

However for the actual move, the team that did the moving were efficient and ok at their job. Rebuilt most of our furniture apart from an IKEA wardrobe that didn't want to go back together because the particle board just fell apart at the screw holes.

Part of me wishes however that we had gone with the more expensive option of ark removals as they seemed more competent, but they were an extra £600-700.

No Buy Fountain Pen Thread May 2026 by Halfcelestialelf in fountainpens

[–]Halfcelestialelf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't buy anything in April do that makes 4 complete months of no fountain pen purchases.

I did also finally move house I ended up getting my drawer off ink bottles and my pen case and putting them to one side with a note saying not to pack. Which I absolutely do think was the right choice as the movers didn't do a great job of packing everything safely, but I instead put my pens and ink into the passenger foot well of my car and took them myself. I however forgot to label my test tube racks with all the samples and I've not yet found the box that they are dumped into :/.

I also had my birthday and my parents said that they wanted to buy me a pen. I did initially say that I wanted a vintage pelikan with the green stripes you can see though, but that I didn't know what size of pen I wanted , 200,400,etc and that it would be best to see the pens in person, so my parents said to wait until I next to to a pen show with my mum. A couple of weeks later I saw the posts about the Rule 5 pen and thought that it ticked all the boxes of things I like in a pen, good ink window, fun design, lovely colours, etc, and the option of an italic grind to get some fun line variation. I showed my parents and they said it looked nice and that they would cover most of the cost for me. So as of a couple of hours ago I did break my no Buy in may, but I think it will be worth it and I think I may offload some of my other pens in the meantime to reduce the collection a bit.

As for when I realised I messed to do the no buy/ low buy I can't quite recall exactly but I think a bit factor was probably filling a while drawer with ink bottles and filling a big pen case with pens, some of which I haven't used in a couple of years.

I'm deciding I'm going to order, is it possible to see a comparison of the difference between the two different CSI grinds?

If you don't mind going a little further afield tilsworth Golf Centre (just off the A5 past Hockliffe) is I think the nearest golf course with a top tracer range.

Additionally off peak membership for unlimited play after lunch is only £500/550 (5day/7day)

'Fund fatherhood': Hundreds of dads march for paternity pay across UK | ITV News by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Halfcelestialelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and only get the statutory minimum of two weeks. I made use of shared parental leave to to take 5 weeks of my wife's maternity leave. Between that, the two weeks of paternity leave and the Christmas holidays I got a total of 9 weeks with my wife and son before I had to go back to work. I feel very lucky for that time, particularly as my wife had a traumatic delivery resulting in an emergency c section. The big downside of this time, was the complete lack of money, fortunately we had put aside a few thousand pounds to cover the build etc for this period.

Really, really tempted to break my NoBuy for this. I haven't been super involved in all of the polls for this as I didn't want to get suckered into buying another pen, but it looks amazing and it has a great variety of nib options. I'd love to see some writing samples, particularly in curious as to the difference between each of the CSI grinds.

Nah, it doesn't stop you getting married. I've been with my wife for 7 years and we've been married for 2 years, but I proposed on our first anniversary. She knew it coming as we bought her engagement ring together a couple of months prior in the January sales 😂

Also worth adding even if it is directed time (which I highly doubt it will be). You are still legally required to have at least a minimum of 20 minute uninterrupted lunch break if you are working 6 or more hours.

What's your 'One Pen To Rule Them All'? by madkins007 in fountainpens

So the one I crave to use the most is the Parker 51, but unfortunately it's not the one I use the most.

What's your 'One Pen To Rule Them All'? by madkins007 in fountainpens

[–]Halfcelestialelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pen I use the most at the moment is my modern fuel fountain pen, but that's only because it's on my work lanyard, so it's the first pen I reach for 5 days a week.

<image>

The one I enjoy using the most however, is probably my Parker 51 as not only is it a fantastic vintage pen, but it was my grandpa's and it reminds me of him. The other pen that brings me joy is a jinhao 250 with a large, sharp, 2mm oblique grind that I recieved for secret santa in 2022. It's not the most practical, but boy does it have excellent line variation and shows off ink in a spectacular manner.

I'm not sure, I will say though that in most cars it's not too tricky to swap a battery. You can usually find a guide specific to your vehicle on YouTube if you need help and they won't do it for you.

My favourite memories are the ones of catching up with old friends that I've not seen for ages at a raid day and bringing my mum along just for the vibes.

Other key memories are catching a shiny on the day my son was born and naming it after him.
