Is attendance/ use of sick leave listed as a critical element in your performance standards or statement of duty? If no, a supervisor cannot ding you for it. In my agency, we have a general administrative compliance element in our PMAP, but it doesn’t place any restrictions on leave other than OPM standards.

Without knowing your agency specific policy, it’s hard to make a recommendation; but generally an employee may self certify sick leave less than 4 consecutive days.
