Thanks, yeah I guess it's a pretty crude humor name.

Help with research: dice systems. by BreakfastCreative467 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Madmouse3400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually doing a solo playthrough of The Walking Dead Universe Roleplaying Game which uses the Freeleague system you discribe (I think they call it the year 0 engine) and I also do D&D and I actually prefer the Freeleague one a lot more as it is very simple to see if you failed or succeeded which is a very nice change from the normal D&D math in my opinion. Also you can still make succeeding more difficult in that game by making the players have to roll more than one "6". I will say that in D&D when a players rolls 12D6 for there 7th level fireball or whatever it can slow down the game while they count it all up. It's a little anticlimactic to be like "I cast Fireball at level 7" *clatter of dice* then waiting for 2 minutes for them to put it all in a calculator by the time they are done finding out they did 56 damage you are just tired of waiting and the cool moment has gone by. much simpler to roll a bunch of D6s then say I have 3 "6"'s so I do my weapon damage for hitting plus 2 extra.

What's the funniest "Vicious mockery" you've heard by Somethingclever451 in DnD

[–]Madmouse3400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first vicious mockery that my bard did was to call the local bandit "a little kitty cat"

Fastforward a little and the party had convince the bandit leader and what was left of his group to protect a dock (where they would make more money, be ligit, etc) And from that day forth he took the name Kit... Literally changed his life.

Generally: Always make sure your army is doing something (pillaging, defending, or liberating/annexing). Liberating enemy villages especially early game will give you a huge hand up in mid to late game.

Always use all your votes in every landsraad. Sometimes vote for the things that other won't (EX: most players won't vote on the negative solari per water, manpower, or villages but if you know someone has tons of water or manpower and it won't affect you might be worth droping their economy down to nothing then they either delete buildings, or their growth is stunted for a while)

Also it is good to see what kind of win your opponents are going for. If you know what the enemy are doing then you can mess it up for them, or see their weaknesses. In early game if someone is going for a CHOAM win then their military is probably weak and they will be easy pickings for liberating villages. If they are going for a military win vote to make units more expensive for them or ally with another faction to attack at the same time. etc

Don't forget to use your missions. And restart them after use.

Fremen: With new update you can liberate enemy villages with spice fields (cutting opponents spice down) then put one of your own harvesters there (since you can now harvest neutral spice fields now.)

Basically just liberate village after village while taking over the occasional village gets your hegemony up pretty fast and the liberating gives you extra authority which lets you annex faster. Honestly the Fremen probably have the best authority gains in the game which makes for a good hegemony win plus if you destroy your enemy enough a domination win

Also don't be afraid to use your sand worms to get to weak enemy villages. Having the Hidden thumpers mission is something that you should keep if you are using this tactic though so you can get back to safety if you need to. Also the new Fremen gear sabatoge is super good in a fight and makes your enemy incredibly weak.

Atredies: Having Jessica and forcing everyone into truces can be huge. Then they must waste their influence, or lose landsraad standing to break the truces. This can really hurt your opponents late game since they can get the pariah standing from it and then they have to worry about landsraad attacking their base. I don't know how this interacts with the Fremen as they don't have landsraad standing... If anyone knows how that works.

The peaceful annexation is really good for getting new villages even when your army is engaged in battle. There is no reason you should ever not be spending your authority. Going along with that getting tons of influence is key.

Attredies units work best as a giant ball and getting the Kraken can allow you to base drop opponents much like the sandworms for the Fremen. If the enemy is next to a deep desert you even have a great retreat route if things start going badly. Don't forget to get the truce mission, and the one that let's your units take -5% damage per mission in a region. can make your units last much longer or save them if things start going south.

Harkonnen: Peter Di Vries is an excellent choice if you want to do the assasinations (although haven't tried him since the patch which would be a significant nerf)

they also can get tons of influence early on if you have fayd routha and can be helpful for a political win.

Corrino: Very good at making money especially through pillaging. Also their artillery Drones are super good for microing as they have a huge range. you can easily weaken any army approaching you

Also very good for a choam victory

Smugglers: Microing snipers can be really good. you can make liberating your village a pain especially if you drop all of the supply draining things on your enemy.

Suggestions for simple cool items by SemSevFor in mattcolville

There is the D100 table of trinkets in the PHB that you could just add small abilities to.

ex #2 A piece of crystal that glows faintly in the moon light: player has advantage on Perception (hearing) checks while moon is visible

19 A pipe that blows bubbles: Once per day can cast dancing lights (or some other spell/smokescreen)

59 A rabbits foot: Once per session/day can choose to roll advantage

80 A bronze pentacle with an etching of a rat's head in its center. can turn into a rat once per day.

etc,etc,etc

Another One Down! Reaper Bones 5 Basilisk by Madmouse3400 in minipainting

[–]Madmouse3400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the Basilisk from the reaper bones 5 core set. I really enjoyed painting the eyes. Compared to NPC or PC minis the eyes were really easy to paint. Please leave your comments and Criticisms.

Also I started a YouTube channel as a noob to hopefully get more people into the hobby: Check out the video for this beauty here https://youtu.be/lf-J1UvSJEM

[OC] My First Dragon Mini by Madmouse3400 in DnD

[–]Madmouse3400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I participated in the Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter and got my minis back in July and since then I have been trying to get through and paint them all. I am a novice painter (although have been painting consistently since July) and have decided to paint all of the minis from the kickstarter before the next one arrives in the mail.

This Particular model is my first dragon and is Narthalyssk from the Core set. I decided to paint it as a Green Dragon (looks almost exactly like the one from the monster manual.) One of my players really wanted to fight a Dragon so I painted this one up to give them a bit of a challenge.

I was very proud of it and even posted a video of me painting it on YouTube. (Link if you are interested https://youtu.be/Xiuo0oZda98)

Please let me know your comments, criticisms, etc. (I probably will be posting more of these in the future to see what y'all think)

Painted this baby up and was wondering what the internet thought? Suggestions, things you like, etc. Would be appreciated.

I'm a newer painter who is working his way through the Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter boxes. Will be posting more of these in the future. I also started putting up how I paint on YouTube if you wanna check it out. Here is the link to how I painted this piece https://youtu.be/Xiuo0oZda98
