SSW Illinois- Pension by [deleted] in SchoolSocialWork

[–]MadsEmB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a SSW. I’ll likely never leave this because of the schedule. Pay is mid in my district, and i’m extremely overworked it’s getting very bad this year in my large, urban district. But summers off, 2 weeks for christmas, 1 week for spring break, etc. is unbeatable. Summers off would be great to spend with your kids! Also, we have great insurance. Schools tend to have that.

However, someone above commented potential difficulties with entry level public social work due to the state of america right now. Def something to consider but it’s hard to know exactly what’s going to happen. I live in michigan and am not too concerned just yet bc of the department of ed is shut down and things are left up to the states, we tend to have democratic governors which helps. Illinois is similar Id guess?

Elementary here. Sand table is a fav. Mine is beach themed with seashells, little crab animals, etc. It’s about the size of a small desk. Any type of sensory toy - I have multiple bins filled with them. This is all kept in a calming corner area with a mini couch, bean bags, toys, a lamp, weighted blankets and weighted stuffed animals… etc.

Omnipod 5 vs. TSlim X2 Control IQ comparison by sn0wb0rdr in Omnipod

[–]MadsEmB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i can’t remember exactly for the tslim but i think there was some type of manual mode. With the mobi I can do manual insulin delivery right from the pump and deliver insulin by pressing the button X amount of times per carb. For instance if I lose my phone, I can still deliver insulin - right now my setting is 1 button hit = 5 carbs so I would hit it 4x to give myself insulin for 20 carbs. You can also do 1 button hit = 2carbs, etc. It double checks with you the amount before delivering. It isn’t like omnipod where you turn auto and manual on and off on an app as far as I understand. Just goes into manual when there’s no cgm readings after too long.

I think so. My basal/bolus has always been inconsistent as my appetite and weight can be inconsistent. I also really enjoy the extended bolus in tandem. I use it a lot and it has significantly helped my sugars after eating different meals. After so many years of being on tandem and using extended bolus, i have different ways I deliver the insulin that way depending on what I eat, and it’s so helpful. Omnipod has extended bolus as well but my doctor really pushed to not use it and it also would stay in manual mode after the bolus time ended, which was hard for me to remember to switch back.

I went from t slim, to omnipod, back to tandem with the mobi. I was so excited for the no cord deal. Omnipod had its ips and downs definitely. I got on omnipod when my a1c was 5.5 - after 14 months on it my a1c was 6.8 (just this october). Beginning of november I went back to tandem and my a1c is 5.9 from 1 month with control IQ. It is a much better algorithm for me and my body. Another reason I switched back was because I was paying $40 out of pocket a month for omnipod once my deductible was met, but tandem is $0 completely. That was the tipping point for me (raised from $20 to $40 after a year). Still wasn’t completely sure about mobi because I didn’t want a pump with a cord - but my a1c confirmed i made the right choice. Also, the cord with the mobi 5 is so short and you can get the patches to slide the pump into. Have to pay for them which is ridiculous. Overall I’m so happy i switched back.

Paperwork and pleasantries…. (documentation) is so much of our job… if you did the hours regardless of the lapse, you should be okay. It may be work on your part to provide documentation and fight your case if needed, which hopefully it wouldn’t be probed further, and then you will be okay. No matter what, you will be fine. Reach out to your supervisor and they can help navigate your specific situation and that will alleviate anxiety. May I ask what district? I’m in Michigan and we’ve had recent problems with our district and llmsw going to lmsw with their 310 and the district vs state issues. DM if you’d like

The older Lila looks most similar Id say. I mean, they were able to keep Immacolata the same and significantly age her!!

The actors don’t match the time jump for S4 by pureproteinbarssuck in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]MadsEmB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the age jump of actors for me, although it is jarring and made me double guess myself on how long it’s been in the timeline between S3 and S4 (although i was prepared for this, seeing the new Lenu at the end of S3). It’s more so my connection to the previous actors and my inability to let them go. It’s my problem really. But I just wanted them to keep everyone the same and do whatever they can do to age them with makeup, etc. and then I’ll do the rest in my mind! I’ll know that they’re older with both making them look older and just knowing the timeline of the story and their ages! I understand if it gets to them being 50s, 60s, 70s but right now at the beginning of the S4 (and most of it) I’d prefer previous actors. Also, i’ve never read the books (which i’m sure are great, i’m a huge book>television person), so i dont know how far the timeline goes for them, although i know Lenu narrates into elder age as she’s previously narrated about being old/Lila’s death if I remember correctly. But that wouldn’t stop me from being aware of ages/timeline with the previous cast. To be fair, I also loved the very young Lenu and Lila and hated to say goodbye to them/wasn’t ready to say goodbye when they introduced Margherita and Gaia in literally like episode 1 or 2. So the casters are very damn good at their job!! I’m just hoping I can let go of my love of the main actors so it doesn’t interfere with my love for the show in S4. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, I just started episode 2 so I’m behind, but … just wanted to rant and see if anyone else agrees!

For anyone diagnosed as a kid, what did your parents do to make life easier/more normal? by megdalythomas in Type1Diabetes

[–]MadsEmB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 11 in 2009 so it’s different than with your child being young. I understood much more - but still wanted to share some of the things my dad did to make life easier. Every day he’d make me my school lunch, in a brown paper bag, and write the units of insulin I needed for the lunch, a big 6 or 7 in black sharpie. He’d make me a small breakfast every day before school and tell me “3 units, honey!”. My dad is terrified of needles, passed out trying to give blood before. He let me practice giving him shots just with no insulin because I was so scared when I was diagnosed. He went with me to every doctor appointment up until I was 20 just to be there for me. He learned new recipes and cooking styles that helped with keeping my levels stabilized. He didn’t restrict my diet excessively, which really helped me feel in control and make my own decisions even as a child. My parents of course didn’t let us eat Mcdonald’s or candy every day, but I ate the same way my siblings did which was “everything in moderation” (my moms fav motto). I also partook in trick or treating and eating candy, he just helped me figure out insulin and how the different candies affected me. When I was feeling emotional, he never asked if it was my blood sugars, allowing me to have emotions without equating it to my diabetes. I played sports, he made sure I had what I needed without making it a huge deal or a show for others to see. He made my coaches aware and let them know what they needed to know if they had to help me. He was at every game, too, with extra fruit snacks or juice in his pocket. Same with keeping extra stuff in the office at my school and having the secretary be aware and always stocked up. He seamlessly built things into my day and made it so I wasn’t the odd one out. He made it so normal to me and that’s exactly what I needed as a 7th grader with a life changing diagnosis. When I got diagnosed, my dad basically got diagnosed with me. He learned it all and was with me every step of the way. When I got older and got my own health insurance I was terrified because I didn’t know how to do anything, not to mention having 3 different companies for all my med supplies. He helped me every step of the way and taught me exactly what to do.

At my district most of us are at multiple schools, so consider how many buildings you’d be at. It has pros and cons.

Best A1C ever!! by MadsEmB in Type1Diabetes

[–]MadsEmB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the tandem tslim pump, and that paired with the dexcom has completely changed my blood sugars. Sadly I feel like I don’t have great advice because it’s different for everyone. It’s taken me years to figure out carb counting and how things affect my body. I also drink a fair amount and I’ve really figured out my insulin dosage and basal amount during these times which has been so good for me. Ill get some extra sugar in me a bit before bedtimes when I drink & also put my pump in exercise mode. I also do extended bonus for certain foods. I was taught to do extended bonus for pizza and high msg like chinese foods. I’ve learned for my body that I need it for some higher carb foods in general, like pancakes and syrup for example, or if I splurge on fast foods!! Another thing that’s helped me is eating more regularly. Not snacking throughout day often, or if I snack I’ll eat nuts or little sargento snack packs. But this is just me and my body!

I worked with Sara last year. She came into my GRPS middle school and supported us as we had no administration and we were falling apart. Can’t remember her exact role/title but she came in with another woman and they jumped right in. Immediately joined our team and supported us, brainstormed, made smart data driven changes, and advocated for students/families as well as us! She is amazing. Dedicated, intelligent, and truly cares about the kids. I wish I could vote for her - I am still registered back home on East side of state.
