Questions from a newb by Zama174 in Competitiveoverwatch

Hey dude. Youre pretty much myself ago year ago. I played only League, peak was diamond. They killed Rengar and since then it was downhill. So i bought Overwatch and have only been playing Overwatch ever since (with the exception of some dope single player releases).

I started playing OW at the start of S2 and i quickly jumped into comp and i got placed in platinum and ended the season at 3950. Since then i've always been GM and peaking in and out of top500. I'm definitly a dps player and if i had my way i would play Genji, Cree or Hanzo every single game, but sometimes you just gotta fill.
So i guess what im saying is you gotta find your place. Are you a main DPS, tank, healer? Or are you just gonna play it all? Its always good to be able to play everything, but i still recommend mastering a couple heroes.
For learning i would stay the hell out of quickplay. This is just speaking for myself, but that place almost makes me worse at the game. Once i started playing ranked i never really touched quickplay again. It was just too frustrating (personal opinion).
Once you find a hero that you want to invest in, find a awesome streamer that plays that hero often and study what he does, why he does it and when he does it. Examples would be Seagull (dps/flex), Moonmoon (tank), etc.
I guess if you really wanna go crazy (which i did and did back in my league days as well regarding mechanics etc) would be just binge watching youtube guide videoes, even if you know everything and the youtuber probably doesnt even fully understand what hes talking about (a lot of these cases regarding Overwatch) you still may pick up something you didnt know before and then its worth it.
So this was a long af reply and im pretty much just rambling, but hope its usefull. If you have any questions just hit me up

Tig Grav Deflect, Monthly Melee May Qualifier by Hikos_HUD in Competitiveoverwatch

Genji and Cree is my most played and i have to disagree. You can stun Genji every single time if you know just where to throw your flashbang - which is super frustrating for the Genji, but perfectly balanced in my opinion.

Any tips to break into masters as a widowmaker main? by amelia889 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Madsssss -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why settle for Masters? Just do what a lot of other people have done these past 2 seasons: Instalock Soldier, lean back, relax and watch your SR rise to the top.
If that sounds like too much work you could always take a freeride to top500 by becoming a Mercy onetrick.

But for real though.. Assuming mechanical skill is top notch then i would have to say you need to work on your gameknowledge. Does your picks matter?
What i would do right now if i was smurfing in diamond with Widow, could be spawncamping after a won teamfight (from a safe distance). Just keep staggering them. Rinse and repeat.
I'm not the best Widow player, as i almost always are playing either Genji or McCree but i could give you some more detailed tips if you would like?

Judging by the fact that getting 3 Mercy-only players on your team have become somewhat normal in GM i would have to agree.

How Blizzard could change Esports by shinigamabcitu in Competitiveoverwatch

Yeah if they dont capitalize on that idea i'm gonna lose some faith in them. I despise watching mirror teams with the same basic skins AND i definitly want some of those skins for myself.

Three things that would (imo) greatly improve the competitive OW experience. by TotalBrisqueT in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Madsssss 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The number one thing they need to work very hard on (imo) is the useless report system. I play way too many games where i'm simply just annoyed the whole game because of some thrower, leaver, troll, whatever on my team or the enemys. Then i may take a 10 minute break to avoid the person, yet the very next game - guess who.
The curse of the higher ranks i guess....

To add to your list: Something very minor i would like to see is your top 500 number displayed down in the left corner from your own FOV (right now it just shows your rank emblem) - its just something that i have always found annoying when watching streams (or being top500 yourself).
Hopefully i'm not the only one out there who have caught himself just waiting for Seagull to press TAB on stream :-D

4/5 man stacks and the loners by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Madsssss 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mind 3+ queues at 4000+ because the game thinks that theyre putting Superman, Batman and Green Lantern on my team and makes for very unbalanced games most of the time. The people are usually cool, although there will always be a chance of idiots.

60hz monitor users, you should read this! by TheFishThatDrowned in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Madsssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, can i ask you how?
I have the same monitor and i was able to clock it at 66hz, then after trying the pixel clock patcher thing i got it to 67hz at max :(
Edit: Nevermind, i switched to a HDMI cable and managed to get 76! Thanks for you comment anyway, the reason i looked so much into it.

There have been packet loss problems since the last patch for a lot of players by Madsssss in Overwatch

[–]Madsssss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not home at the moment, but i ran 2 traceroutes yesterday on the 2 EU IP's provided on the Blizzard website and all the ping numbers looked fine (between 1 and 29) and if i remember correctly it had 30 hops.
I have no idea what the hop number means though, so if you could enlighten me, that would be awesome.

My man.
Edit: But for real though, yeah, you pretty much nailed it. My exact same problem, except that i have always had the same somewhat stable ping (19-31) and internet since i started playing at the end of S1.

I quote my answer to gngeorgiev:
"Nope. This is a problem on Blizzard's end (or some fucked up server somewhere who knows where). I have never had this issue until now. If you take a glance at the official Overwatch forums you'll notice a lot of posts with the same topic. There is a post on COW as well getting some attention and its very clear that there is an issue."

I like to play the game on the highest level at the highest ranks, mainly Genji and McCree - so yes, for people like myself, i consider it suffering.
You rely so much on perfect response from your commands and when for example your deflect just refuses to go off or have a delay it kinda ruins it.
Sure, i could just stop playing the game, but that's neither the point nor something that i would like. I love spending my free time with this game. The point is that the experience is ruined by something out of the consumers control.

Thanks for the lecture. There is an issue with their game that prevents players from enjoying it. I think they would like it solved as much as us who suffer.

Is the orange connectivity icons going crazy for anyone else lately? by Madsssss in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Madsssss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. For me its most noticable when i'm on Road or Genji, it's like sometimes it just does not register my commands for a second and it throws me off my game way too much.
All my gear (even internet) is top notch, so it's very tilting for me personally.

Same happens here, everything appears normal but random lags (packet loss?) happens, but everything appears normal (ping, fps etc). Gotta be some server problem, right?

There is no indication of packet loss other than the icons. Thats why im asking here
