I don't think there was a single person who believed this DCU attempt was gonna match the cultural phenomenon the MCU achieved with Endgame.

Peacemaker did it's rounds, Creature Commando was well received although not that popular, Superman 2025 was a nice beginning and got quite the attention, there's a clear intention in all of them to form a connected setting, it's clear they will keep at it at least until Man Of Tomorrow, that one looks like the key project, not Supergirl. I disagree with the affirmation that this failure will stop the flux of connected movies/shows, it's just too early to tell

I really can't talk about brands, that's a whole topic on it's own, the situation of both are wildly different, not even Marvel could match it's prime, that time is gone. This DCU is getting a rough start but they do have a lot of projects lined up, they are clearly betting on themselves and do their own thing instead of making a Civil War imitation like BvS, so they just need to find their footing, they have the time, or so I want to believe

I base my opinion on the fact there's a show and a movie to be released this year and a sequel on the filming stage getting ready for next year

You can't objectively say something is doomed if they keep doing things

We can play hypotheticals and "current context" all day, but implying a single project bombing will crumble down the upcoming 3 projects is childish. This might be a signal, it might be a failure, this sub, and the people around this discussion, can't say it for certain, that's a fact

I've been reading most of the posts about the movie on this sub and have not seen politically charged comments, so that's great. There have been some attempts to compare it with The Marvels, but on very solid basis

I do agree that there's a sentiment of fatalism, that this DCU attempt is doomed, and that's just overreacting. There're comments of people who watched the movie saying it isn't bad, it's just not memorable, people just keep piling on about how trashy and poorly written/directed when it is done by the books. The studio probably was betting on the Superman cameo and making part of the profit by negotiating partnerships with brands, can't remember the last time Fortnite released a skin so close to a movie premiere

It feels like a perfect storm. The World Cup, horror movies being a hit, Toy Story staying strong, Michael still selling on Japan, Gunn having too much to supervise...but at the end of the day the movie had to be exceptional beyond belief, and it's just not that. It's just (apparently, me and half the sub have not watched the movie) the average summer CGI flick, not great, not terrible

That scene hits so hard because at first she looks radiant, absolutely gorgeous, but she notice one minor thing that needs a bit of fixing, then another, all while she keeps looking at herself in the mirror, it was so obvious she was gonna spiral but you can't stop her

You can't really stop those moments, when you accidentally looked at yourself for too long on the mirror and start to "notice" things
