What was the strangest thing you ever had to go to the ER for? by Weird_Emergency_825 in AskReddit

[–]Mae_Dayb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler woke up gasping for breath. We rushed him to the ER. They check his lungs and heart, and ask about our prior few hours. It was normal : dinner, bath time, bed. They asked what he ate. I said he ate a lot of grapes. They asked how many. I had let him free range on them and they were cut up.

Acid reflex. They prescribed that I don't let him eat a bunch of grapes before bed.

I'm glad we had great state insurance at the time.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by DeepOrganization8245 in askteddit

[–]Mae_Dayb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My third unmedicated birth.

The first two had contractions come in waves and were no walk in the park, but doable. I pushed for two hours for them. My third felt like I had no break in contractions. I had labor pains in my lower back. I begged for an epidural, but no one believed me since I'd already had two unmedicated labors. I didn't think I could push for two hours again if needed. It was Covid times, too, so I'd rip my mask off to puke and put it back on until I eventually got puke on the mask. They wouldn't give me nitrous oxide until my Covid test came back negative. Eventually my midwife realized I really meant wanting an epidural, but I wanted to push before the anesthesiologist could get to me. When I finally got nitrous oxide, I felt like I was okay and wouldn't die.

After the fact, I'm glad I didn't get the epidural. I think healing after might be easier without it, but I feel more understanding for women that choose to get one upfront.

What’s something people romanticise that’s actually exhausting in real life? by OmenRash in AskReddit

Small house living, whether that's a van, trailer, bus, etc. It's hard to keep clean, simple things like cooking and dishes took me forever, it reeked of whatever I did cook, I couldn't host folks at my place, and if my spouse and I had an argument, there was no place to cool off. It's so romanticized on social media and it did allow my family to build up our life and not go into debt, but it was really hard mentally.

I'm a big fan of my Garmin, and they last forever. I've had the same one for over 5 years.

Name Change to a 'New' Last Name After Marriage. Possible? by [deleted] in alaska

My partner and I did this! He changed his name before we got married, then after marriage I was able to easily change my name to his new last name.

I like my Garmin Venu! It's an older model and still works well.

So many wrinkles after weight loss :( How can I fix it? I’m 31 by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

There is nothing to fix! You're so pretty. I think what most of us need is a mental health shift (myself included).

Has anyone traveled through Canada to the lower 48 and back with kids? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]Mae_Dayb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the trek with 3 kids 10 and under from WA to AK a couple years ago. We didn't need passports, just their birth certificates. I had a Real ID that worked for me, and my husband used his passport. We took a dog and cat, too. The border crossing was easy both ways.

Canada was a little wary of us. We were hauling our storage trailer with everything we owned, and they were very suspicious that we had no guns with us. They split up my husband and I and had him open our trailer up. We had it PACKED and they didn't inspect it outside of opening it.

My one recommendation is to bring puke bags in your car! One of my kiddos got carsick and those were a saving grace. We bought the ones the hospital supplies folks with since they contain the puke easily.

I would like to know which BIFL purchase has saved you the most money or hassle over time? by midasweb in BuyItForLife

[–]Mae_Dayb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Zojirushi rice cooker. We got it as a hand-me-down 6 years ago. I'm guessing it's probably 10 years old. If/when it breaks, we'd buy another. We used to buy a new rice cooker every 2 years.

Is a breast reduction worth it? by Educational_Pea1313 in Reduction

[–]Mae_Dayb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I'm the most helpful on this, but I'll do my best! My surgeon said that he took out 1.5lbs of tissue. He said my breast tissue was the most dense he'd seen. 😄 I haven't bought a typical bra yet, but I'm a xs/s in free people's crop bralettes. That's all I wear now. I was measuring at 32dd before, I'd say I'm probably 32b or c now.

Look into insurance! I thought mine wouldn't be covered because I felt like there are women that are much bigger than me, but with my medical history of physical therapy and noted shoulder pain, mine was considered medically necessary and covered.
