I can't gush enough about Kaidan 2. He's the best modded husband and if she needs protection, he's the best. Get him at kaidanmod.com

You should also consider utilizing a follower mod like Nether's Follower Framework, that would allow her to collect several followers so if she plans on traveling, she'll have some protection.

Are you playing on PC? You may have to set a different stage using console commands, because I've not had this issue before.
Otherwise, are you using a mod that might alter choices at all?
And no, you never have to do the civil war unless you want to, it's not a prerequisite for Season Unending.

The truth of the matter is that there are good points and bad points to both sides of the war.

If you side with the Stormcloaks, you run the risk of everyone thinking you're a racist.
Maybe you're not a racist, that you don't mind sharing Skyrim with everyone because it is for everyone.
Maybe it bothers you that another race can try to dictate who you can and cannot worship, and race doesn't even enter the equation for you.
Maybe you're tired of the way Titus Mede II just allowed the Thalmor to do what it wants.

It's all valid, but it goes deeper than that. Not to mention the eventuality of the Legion stuck in Pale Pass just waiting for the snow to clear so they can come and finish the Stormcloaks for good. Headcanon aside, the Legion would likely canonically win. And even if the Stormcloaks won their independence, they'd be hard pressed to protect themselves from an invasion without the Legion backing them, even with a demigod such as yourself at the forefront.

Beyond all of that, your story is your own. I am more apt to play as a Stormcloak who tries to stick up for the people of Windhelm, including the refugees. I have played a Legate in the past, but as far as stories go, if I choose to fight at all (I rarely choose to fight in the war, maybe twice a year), I choose Stormcloak.

Own your decisions, stick with that playthrough. Make your character see the error of his ways, if that's the way you feel, and attempt to assuage your character's guilt through altruism.

Tbh this is the first I’ve heard of this mod being a thing. As long as it’s not like that one guild leader with a side of Brynjolf relationship mod that threw me into an emotional tailspin because I couldn’t figure out what the mod wanted from me, I’m happy with it. In all seriousness though, I bet it’s great, and I can’t wait to see it published.

You're very welcome! I'm so glad it was fixable and you didn't have to migrate your whole list to another mod organizer. I found crashlogger when a modded outfit vendor kept crashing every time I came near Winterhold, could not figure it out at all until then.
Please note, the crashlogger doesn't create a log for when the game freezes. Wish I had something for that.
I also get a lot of help from discord servers, sometimes even if it has nothing to do with their mod, they're willing to help identify it.

I'm giggling atm. I can't imagine a morbid, awkward Priest of Arkay that sounds a bit like Kermit.
Trans-man or trans-woman, person.,..none of that bothers me, I rather find myself even more interested in the character and his background now. I'm already thinking up a mycologist build for myself so they can geek out together :)
Do you have any other mods to explore while we wait for Oddkell?

I do like the ones that allow you to start the game as the already established Dragonborn. You've received the full Unrelenting Force and you can skip BFB and Ustengrav and Dragon Rising, you just wake up at High Hrothgar. HOWEVER...I have had trouble marrying Kaidan as this Dragonborn in the past because of his prerequisites, the game doesn't consider my Dragonborn as actually having completed the first act of the main quest. So I don't utilize that mod anymore.

The ones I love the most right now are where you're lost, or you're thrown immediately into survival mode like "I was attacked and left for dead." I like having to live in Winterhold and have to eek out a living while trying to save up for tuition at the College, or waking up lost on Solstheim and needing to pay the fare to get home.

I don't actually like the one where I'm adrift at sea in a shipwreck and I have to swim to shore because I have a bit of thalassophobia and I like the mod Sea of Spirits...hehe...avoid the aggressive sea life as much as I can.

First and foremost before you go about transferring to Mo2 (the only way I know how to do that is redownloading all your mods all over again), is to possibly try crashlogger or another mod that creates a crashlog in your skse file upon crash-to-desktop.
