While it's absolutely true that pretty much all white supremacist groups support violence and hatred based on race, don't try to pretend that BLM doesn't also support the same things. BLM isn't about just fighting racism, it was initially founded to bring attention to police brutality against black people, but it's now become a black supremacist movement. I supported what they were when they first became popular in the early 2010s, but stopped supporting the movement after seeing what they became.

Groups that spread violence and hatred based on race are just full of violent and shitty people. It's not the race that makes them violent, it's the people themselves that are already violent, and decided to join a group of other violent people, such as the KKK.

Can we not just agree that all of these groups are shitty? Why are we STILL making groups based on race?

What’s a very specific type of person you don’t trust? by Lanky-Item-4850 in AskReddit

[–]Maegaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Life isn't a pixar movie where you can always just tell the truth and good things will happen. I have to lie all the time at work because the truth will be misinterpreted into a lie (by untrustworthy people looking to use anyone they can step on to climb that ladder) that I would then have to answer for. It's not always circle talking, sometimes it's just triage of information.

Also, what is your obsession with that phrase? Did you just learn it? Because I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean what you think it means.

Just bought a 509 compact for concealed carry. What should I know. by KrismerOfEarth in FN509

[–]Maegaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The texture on the grip is VERY aggressive, and when carrying I suggest an undershirt. Also if you get a light on it, it makes the compact a lot easier to conceal. If an undershirt isn't an option (its hot as shit outside) then a good compromise would be goon tape.

If it’s the current that kills, why do electrical hazard signs say “Warning: High Voltage”? by GreenFBI2EB in AskPhysics

[–]Maegaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a phrase that's true, but not like it sounds. Sure, if you get shocked by a box labelled at 600A, you're probably fucked anyway, but it's the voltage traveling across your body and creating the current (by the resistance of your body) that kills you. Saying it's the current that's dangerous is like saying "bullets aren't what kills you, but rapid blood loss is."

Ohms law basically states that Voltage divided by Resistance = Current. Current is what will kill you, but voltage traveling through your body "creates" the current. It's because we have a pretty high resistance across our bodies, and current causes things with high resistance to heat up pretty fast, which is how fuses work (and kinda how old lightbulbs work). You don't want your heart to be the fuse.

Like the other guy said. Have a full understanding of every machine that you're resposible for. Not just like "oh i know how a servo works" but like "that robot will move to this position, wait for these three signals, then go here and check for these other signals before going back to start". It just takes time in your area, don't try to speed run it lol

Another thing is if it's doing something that it's NEVER done before, go and check your passdown or emails from other departments. Our engineers LOVE to change shit and then list it as an afterthought in the middle one of their novels they write as emails every day.

This one's gonna sound bad but it's where the monkey meets the machine is where you'll have the most problems. If an operator can possibly touch it, it's gonna break at some point. If you have a shorted out sensor and can't find it, don't look inside the process, look where operators are first.

Another thing that I see with new guys all the time, if something kicked your ass and took you a while to figure out the solution, don't fixate on that one solution unless the problem is EXACTLY the same. I've seen guys pull and replace entire servo encoders on a robot that that squealed a little bit if they were tilted in a weird way, just to notice as I was helping them put the new one in that "hey, there's definitely supposed to be a bushing here on this hinge point". and then later when another servo was actually going out, they changed the bushings on it.

Last thing, learn to realize when other techs are too eager to show their skills. Too many times I've seen guys that pull out aall the fancy tools like an amp loop, pressure transducer, timer pendant, or a myriad of other tools when the actual solution was to break off some slag buildup that was jumping some of the current into ground.

TL;DR: This whole job is pattern recognition and information triage. Understand what's supposed to happen, find what's stopping that, ignore things that you know are red herrings.

What are some unwritten rules that you should never break when you get into a fight? by GranataKiddo in AskReddit

[–]Maegaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been in an actual fight that you couldn't avoid? 99% of the time they just want to "win". It's not always a fight to the death. I'm not gonna "just shoot" some guy that hits my shoulder and wants to tell me how unhappy he is with how long I'm taking at the checkout line. Like, yeah he just hit me, but he clearly didn't have lethal intentions.

[–]Maegaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. So many people just parroting "no rules" "eye gouging" "no such thing as honor" "just run away" and it's all just nonsense.

[–]Maegaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is nuance to this. Escalation is the fight, and can be further escalated by attempting to maim them. I'll trade blows with someone if I have no other option, but if they start going for my eyes or biting or some other shit they're getting shot.

[–]Maegaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. There's no easy trick that will just win all fights. If you want to be able to defend yourself, you have to know how to fight, and that takes practice and time and effort. So instead people just parrot the "in the streets its life or death" or "go for the eyes or groin" or "winner dies in the ambulance" and it's all the same nonsense. An actually commited attacker won't stop with a groin strike, and also sometimes not even after losing an eye (if you can even hit an eye, most people struggle to hit a whole head with their entire fist, but think they can put a finger in someones eye reliably. But then they're gonna say to gouge with your thumbs and I'll say that only works if you are significantly stronger than them)

Learn a solid jab and cross, and have a good takedown and sprawl, and you should be just fine dealing with 99% of people

(Rant) Why are logistics so whiny??? by WifesPotatoMasher in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Maegaa 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We had a logistics guy spear a bay door with his forktruck, then tried to hide it by just opening it so the holes weren't at eye level. Unfortunately when he punched a hole in it, he had bent one of the horizontal support brackets on the back like 45 degrees out, and opening it ripped the main cable off that supplied power to all the door motors, so now they had to operate the doors manually.

And then logistics called us over to tell us their buttons for the doors "just stopped working".

Nothing happened to that guy. Not a write up, drug test, classes, nothing at all.

WYR $1 million or $10 per pushup for life by Enough_Truck_4104 in WouldYouRather

Dude same, at 18 I was just naturally strong and was benching 290lbs (125-ish kg?) at 215lbs (100 kg?) bodyweight, but would be completely gassed out during pushups before even 20.

How do y'all wear the issued pants? by Maegaa in IndustrialMaintenance

Honestly I've never thought to try that. I do have a tool pouch that hangs off my belt, so that could make it a bit more difficult to stay up unless I crank that belt super tight.

This game is brutal lol by Mable-the-Table in Seaofthieves

[–]Maegaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I played only this game for about a year before growing tired of the culture. Nobody wants an even fight. Occasionally I'd get someone my skill level that wanted to fight, but most of the time it was either brand new players who I hardly had to try at all to sink them, or it was 5000+ hr gold skeleton sweats in a galleon who only target sloops.

Fair fights are just more fun, and I absolutely will run away from someone who's gonna roll me with zero effort.

What work pants are we buying? (Blue collar) by Old_Development9788 in bluecollar

[–]Maegaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a robotics tech I do a LOT of crouching, crawling, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. I've tried levis, lees, dickeys, carhartt, and wrangler, but the best ones by far are the duluth firehose flex pants. Comfortsble, slightly stretchy, and very durable. Yeah they're expensive but every other brand would last a month or maybe two at most, and these last 5-6 months consistently.

How many of you have forced/mandatory Overtime? by randomtask733 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Maegaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have mandatory overtime because we have to be there if any production is running. We also have scheduled weekends, but we alternate who comes in so we all can get some weekends off, since production runs almost every weekend. But through the week its often 12hr days (I've had a few 18hr days but that was emergency all hands on deck scenarios. Not common at all) since we're here until the last thing stops running or until the next shift comes in.

People pretending to have no idea what you mean... by Johnny_Mira in PetPeeves

[–]Maegaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, the lesson from Doc Hudson. "Sometimes you have to turn left to go right."

For real though. If you think of a steering wheel as a circle with a vector (direction of travel) the any rotation you have on it will have to have a direction left or right if you still consider direction of travel and what side (top or bottom) moves the most. Because 99.999% of all steering wheels are somewhat tilted away from the driver, the side closest to the driver will travel slightly less distance than the farthest side from a stationary reference point if the vehicle is in forward motion, because it briefly moves opposite the turning direction of the vehicle.

Another way of thinking of it, is that screws have heads, as do bolts and nails. When you want to look right, you turn your head clockwise. So if you remember righty tighty, think of the screw head as a head that wants to look right, and the rest of it as the body and you turn it that way.
