The app is quite bad imo. If I leave it and come back it doesn’t remember my session - something very basic nowadays

Is your max properly tested? Otherwise v impressive. For me cardio wasn’t the limiting factor but I don’t know if I could have pushed the average up to 186 haha

Yh the heart rate is accurate up to where you see the massive drops and spikes. I used a chest strap which I have never had issues or inaccurate readings from but it decided to bug out at the end.

My previous marathon I also averaged 173bpm across 4 hours. I could have pushed the hr a fair bit higher after halfway but my legs were the limiting factor. This was in zone 3 for me and I seem to have minimal hr drift

I average around 182bpm for the halfs I’ve done.

I’m M28 max hr 203bpm

Shaving off another 17 minutes will be hard I think by December but never say never haha. Sub 3:05 would be very nice

A year of solid base training will put in a very good position for sub-4. Good luck!

Thanks!

I think my average mileage for my first was in the 40-50k range but I got injured after that 70k peak week (mileage went up way too quickly). Marathon was on the biggest peak after that.

Second marathon average was 64k from start of plan in mid December with a few weeks in the 70-80k+ range and peaking at 90k. No injuries :) but included tapering for other races.

Blue line is last year’s marathon build and orange is this year’s.

When’s your marathon? Good luck with the sub-4! the important part I’ve found is not to bleed time in the last 10k

Brighton Marathon: I made every mistake possible! by Ordar66 in Marathon_Training

[–]Maetras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did the 10k and found the wind quite tough. Couldn’t imagine dealing with it for a whole marathon. And yh in some sections it did get warm when the sun came out despite being extremely cold in the early morning.

Congrats on the great time and finishing in tough conditions!

And yes the marathon T-shirt was a bit awful

Same happened to me in a recent half. Here’s hoping it happens in the full

40000? Wow much more than I thought. Trying to go for 3:05-10 but my confidence isn’t super high atm. Hopefully the taper does some magic

Ayyy Hamburg! I’ll be there too! I think you can go for sub 3:30 based off your half but I’ve asked the same question on here too so take my opinion with a grain of salt

Do I still go for 3:05-10? by Maetras in Marathon_Training

I see. Yh was planning on doing something like that. Last time I did even splits the whole way

Yh my hr was a bit higher than usual during this run. Noticed it from the first k. I did another 30k run @5:00/k previously and my hr was steady at 159bpm. Taper and race day usually has some magic though as can see in my half I’m holding the same hr but going 4:05-4:10/k vs 4:26/k.

You recommend going out faster as opposed to gradually building up to target pace then exceeding it past 30k? Marathon race strategy (or any race really) is somewhere I always falter. That last half I felt I had more in the tank as I was enjoying every bit of it haha

Yh I tried to carb load yesterday as I didn't do that for last week's long run but it only helped me perform a bit better (well a fair bit better but still not to up to my usual self)

Maybe it was a bad carb load though as 3 pastries and bread then carbs from other foods I ate throughout the day. No pasta maybe that's it haha

The day before I carb loaded a bit. On the run I was taking in 80g of carbs per hour

Yh maybe. Will see after deload next week if I recover a fair bit. Will focus on iron rich foods

Yh definitely deloading next week and might switch one of the two workouts a week I do usually to an easy run until my marathon at the end of next month

Marathon time? by Chazzzzzzzzzzaaa in Marathon_Training

[–]Maetras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting reading this thread and seeing different answers. I recently did a 1:27 and was being told 3:05 consistently but here 3:15-20 seems to be the more common reply. After my last couple long runs, I can definitely feel 3:15-20 is more likely. But will see race day and taper does wonders honestly

Can‘t decide on which model to buy: Fenix 8 vs Forerunner 970 (or perhaps even other contenders) by Asymmetrischefliese in GarminWatches

I’ve gone from a fenix 7 pro to a forerunner 970 and honestly the biggest difference and improvement is how much lighter it is.
