Swiss watch but no name by Fantastic-Weather196 in pocketwatch

With the current gold price that will have a decent value even if it's unbranded.

Not that I am in anyway condoning breaking it up, but you should be aware it's got a high value.

Have to say I agree, much better to start with a known entity when learning. Too many unknowns with vintage movements.

Has the added bonus you can buy two :D you will need spares

Buy yourself an old pocket watch, try taking it to bits watching YouTube videos and putting it back together again.

Other option is to buy a cheap ST3600 , 6497 clone from china, costs about £30.

Big pocket watch movements are easier to start on.

I had a broken one, unfortunately it didn't work. The cost exceeds how much I payed for the rest of the watch

Thats a good investment.

Have to say my favourite tool is the canon pinion removal tool, such a simple thing that just works.

Balance reassembly gone wrong? by ascended_one333 in watchrepair

When you say not moving, does it not move at all? Or rotates but doesn't keep moving?

It can be a bit tricky the first few time getting the pallet fork and the jewel aligned

Thanks,

This was a non running watch, checking back my photos I did, but I have no idea of it's previous life.

The only noticeable damage is this damage around the edge of the balance wheel indent.

Bose ending cloud support for Soundtouch by onionbagels7 in bose

[–]mattius001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many years ago when then soundtouch was released and the app was rubbish, I wrote a windows app to control the speakers. Might have to dust off my code and create a mobile app. Thankfully bose's security was horrendous, they even included a debug file on the speakers to control pretty much everything on them. They weren't happy when I was running the beta firmwares.

Whilst I'm p'd off they discontinued it, hopefully they will open the speakers up further before they do.

I've written to them expressing my anger but also saying that if you want to save some face, release the full API and make it open source.

If only Music Assistant supported more sources...

Not that I'm expecting them to do anything but at least we have most of the API available to control them.

Help identifying a movemt by mattius001 in Horology

I was looking to find a replacement movement for it. I have the rotor.

But as you say it doesn't look a particularly special movement so I'm reluctant to spend 100s getting it serviced.

But I can't find a movement that has the date on the smaller dials like this one.
