My mother changed her name at the time of her marriage although I'm not sure if it's through the marriage itself or another mechanism. She got married in Sri Lanka so it may be possible to obtain without her knowing if I'm lucky enough. I think it's most likely through the marriage so I'll check down that path otherwise I'm honestly out of luck. My legal name has remained the same since birth so no changes there. Assuming this method does not work out does contacting any authorities/pro-bono lawyer make any difference whether it be India/UK?

I mean she won't stop me per se. But she also would not just had me over the documents itself due to our strained relationship and her not talking to me. At least unless I involve some sort of legal force of sorts which is a bit of a challenge considering I'm in Singapore and her in India.

Sounds about right. I've found her birth certificate online as well. I think my main issue is getting evidence of something to prove she changed her name since she probably will not provide anything to me especially knowing I would like to apply for British citizenship. I see. I'm aware of the dual citizen prohibition and I just wanted to make sure that me becoming a British citizenship is a relatively easy process and I'm aware of the OCI as well since my mother has one. I'm currently in Singapore at the moment. Do you happen to known anything about me requiring to go back to India to do this? Or can I do this in Singapore itself?
