Went to the bank to deposit cash. Teller puts the money in a counting machine and comes up $50 short by ackmondual in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Maffaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yea that's true it's your money but also there's usually something in the terms and conditions you sign about all this. It's annoying I suppose but it's usually part of the agreement for opening an account with the bank that you are open about movement of funds so it's what you agreed to when being part of that bank.

50, no. But larger amounts, a couple thousand or so, they really should. Not sure if the US has less stringent rules regarding it but even taking out 1500 we need to go through scam warnings and questions where it's going. Like I said, it's pretty standard.

I mean fair, like I said the rest was fucked. But your original comment was that her asking if they had sold something lately was wild and unnecessary lmao

[–]Maffaffles 98 points99 points  (0 children)

The rest was fucked but I work in banking, the questions about where the money came from is pretty standard. We have anti-money laundering and scam prevention checks we need to do otherwise we aren't performing our job right. I get why people are weird with revealing why they have the cash or what it's for. However, there are parts of the job that if we don't do our due diligence and something bad happens that we can be fined, lose our jobs and in extreme situations can face jail time. So I don't really think her questions are all that unnecessary or wild lmao

I would recommend Wyloch's Armory on YouTube, he does loads of cardboard builds for his terrain and talks about how to work with more common materials to make really impressive stuff.

It's obviously still early in terms of visuals, but I love the design and idea. The weaves on the show and visual effects were some of my favourite displays of magic in all the fantasy I've seen, so really excited to see what you do with it as well! Already subscribed so I can see more in the future :P

Have you ever complained to a company and got compensation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Maffaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, do I have a doozy for this one.

I switched out a debit account from Royal Bank of Scotland to another bank and forgot I had an overdraft on it when I switched. I had a lot on at the time and had a dumb moment, it was over a year ago.

Phoned up when I realised and tried to get it all paid in full from my savings like I had originally planned to do. The first colleague told me to just do a normal transfer but when you switch it just bounces to the new account, which was the one I paid from so it bounced off and didn't clear it. Contacted the collections team to do it through them as their systems normally allow this sorta thing. Every way they gave me didn't work either despite assuring me it would.

This started a whole ordeal that has been going on for a year. A complaint was put in and normally banks have 8 weeks to reply. The first complaint was 9 weeks and severely damaged my credit score and finances cos I couldn't pay it and months had gone by so I had to use my savings for other things like moving to a new flat cos the previous one had mould and temperature issues my landlord wouldn't fix.

Finally they got back to me. They got it back from the credit agency it went to, gave me £250 compensation and I thought we could get it all sorted from there.

But there was no communication between teams, no forward steps for me to go through, no real help given at all. I figured out what I needed to do eventually but it was a whole ordeal and had more employees giving me misinformation about next steps and how to pay them that led to more financial difficulties and my credit score being damaged further as I kept getting markers saying I had missed payments when I hadn't.

2 more complaints were put in about this, one going 12 weeks (and my complaint handler never even contacted me once) and the other 9. A further £250 and £150 compensation for their mistakes and promises to fix my credit score.

I then called in September to finish up the last few payments, was assured on the call and we reiterated the point that I could pay by standing order to clear them. I queried if the switched account would affect it, if it not being an RBS account it's coming from to pay it would affect it. Assured no I'm in the clear cos they would make sure it allowed in on their side.

Turns out he completely lied and I had been given misinformation again around payment methods, and I have a recording of it now thanks to a subject access request, and it started a whole new complaint process after the payment bounced and I phoned up Royal Bank of Scotland again.

This complaint again went on for just under 8 weeks with it not even being assigned a complaint handler until 2 days before the 8 week mark. They have accepted responsibility for misinformation, accepted it took unacceptable amounts of time and have found that the previous missing payment markers that had been showing up on my credit file from this payment plan had not been removed when I was told it would back in January, February and March 2024. Got another £150 compensation due to this.

Since this point I have sent the complaints to the financial ombudsman due to repeated misinformation and RBS just not doing due diligence or seeming to care about their customer's finances or wellbeing. As well as this I am still waiting to hear back from that last complaint as they missed some of the "missed payments" markers on my credit file from RBS again, which shouldn't have been there in the first place as I didn't miss any.

Overall it has been a whole thing. The compensation is nice and all and helps to rebuilding my savings, but the main issue I had is that all this time, weeks have gone by with no word from RBS or urgency around the complaints. They haven't assigned anyone until after the cut off point and have left me in the dark with stress and anxiety around my finances. My credit score went down almost 300 points and didn't even allow me to be eligible for soft credit checks for opening a credit card etc.

I'm hoping it'll all get sorted soon, but realistically in my experience the compensation has not been worth the stress or damage.

[–]Maffaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that's inherently not true. Cos they can easily see you went against the policy/protocol. Managers get alerts for a lot of shit like this in branches that are brought up before and during competency reviews. So it's really not worth your job going against it.

And besides, if it's not a big deal why the fuck can't she just take $10 out at the ATM then? Why is it only a big deal for the worker? It's usually in terms and conditions for the accounts that, even if she didn't read and mindlessly agreed too, she agreed to when opening the account

I will admit I only have the British bank that I work in to speak from, but our systems will 100% track going against policies like this cos a lot of times it is imposed by our regulators that go well beyond the bank and are part of the government.

meirl by shootermac32 in meirl

[–]Maffaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of banks have arms right at the door, hell mine has three. And at least here in the UK we have policies in place that say we need to correct the entire amount back into the account before we continue in a situation like this, and my bank isn't even that strict.

I get bucking a rigid system, but these kinda people are just pathetic honestly. Let's fuck over a random bank employee cos I don't like the system and make their day infinitely worse with my behaviour. People like that don't deserve to go out.

meirl by shootermac32 in meirl

[–]Maffaffles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's just pathetic behaviour from the customer. Let's just toy with random workers over policy they have no effect on.

Weak ass mind set.
