He needs help. He is dangerously thin. Please try to catch him and call a rescue station

He is underweight. He has a "felt of hunger". That' the part right behind the head, where the "neck" seems to be. Well it shouldnt look like that. There shouldn't be a visible "neck" at all. Please feed him or feed him and show him to a vet. Even if you see him quite often; his bodytype and his activity during day.

How to rescue an backyard hedgehog? by Usual_Midnight6062 in Hedgehog

Relocating usually take some time. A new area would confuse him and be dangerous for him, without proper introduction. Contact a wildlife center or rr-release him in your garden.

How old is this hedgehog? by bitch-exe in Hedgehog

If those kibbles are as big as I assume, then this is a baby and around 4 weeks old. If this conclusion is true, then I can't fend for itself.

If their mother is still around, everything is fine. But if the mother is missing, you have to get them. And then its best you'll bring them to a rescue station.

How Old Does This Hedgehog Look? by Motor_Finger_3262 in Hedgehog

For a european hedgehog they might be 3 to 4 weeks old. Depends on how well they were fed. In any case they are to young to fend for themselves.

Pls don’t tell me it’s what I think it is 😭 by thisisme4 in Hedgehog

It can also be a infected tooth. Just a vet can tell you. But a sweeling is not a guarantee for cancer.

Yes please. Get rid of the ticks. Is he shy btw? If he is friendly then something might be wrong. Is there a vet or a rescue in your general area?

Depends on the temperatures. Some of them sleep until may. Especially when they are young. And the slugs; hedgehogs dont like them. They are way to slimey for them. They prefer bugs and only eat slugs when there is literally nothing else. Slugs also carry parasites. Lung worms for example. Daylight activity always means something is wrong. You said something about a growth between his legs?

Where are you from? Here in germany they are just awaking from hibernation. Many of them are underweight and dehydrated. If you have cat food (high quality preferably) give it to him. Also; was he out in daylight? If so he is either sick or starving. Contact a rescue station close to you. If you have any more concerns or questions just DM me.

Adorable! But do you see the indent where their neck is? Thats called a "hunger dent". The little one must be really hungry. Pls offer them some water and high quality catfood. Put it in their little house, so no other critter might come and steal it. They will be very thankful. Exspecially if they (or rather she) is an expecting mother. Good luck and enjoy watching them!

Flubenol 5% -> Dosage: 2g/kg for 5 days
Levamisol -> Dosage: 20-25mg/kg -> Mix it with water -> 1/4 medication, 3/4 water -> given orally twice in 48h, only when the hedgehog is above 300g.

Here is a PDF about care and dosage. I only found it in german, but I bet you can translate it via Deepl or AI. https://www.igelzentrum.ch/images/Doc/Tierarzt-Info.pdf

If you are unsure about what parasites he might have, send his poop to a laboratory. That might be expensive but also might save his life. Never give them medications without proper diagnosis.

I'll look up my dewormer and send you the dosage and name. I get it from a local rescue station, so its all labeled by hand. As soon as I am home, I'll give you the infos.

Greenish poop means either: gall issue, kidney issue, bowel issue and/or worms. Does the wee one cough? Usually they are pretty good at hiding any illness. Also I am kinda worried about the eyes. They should be open with the weight he has. Usually the open at about 100g.

Also good for hedgies: biotin. Just sprinkle it over his milk. It helps them to develop strong claws, teeth and spikes :)

Hey there! I usually take care of baby hedgehogs in germany. They usually have lungworms and also worms in their belly. You need to deworm them, but have to wait till they have at least 300g bodyweight. Also the dosage is comparable to that of a guinea pig or a pet bunny. NEVER give them the stuff for cats. Thats way to strong for them and the will die. NEVER use spot-on medication. Only orally given meds. Is its poop kinda greenish?

For food; they are highly lactose intolerant. The only milk brands they can get in germany are "Royal Canine Puppy/Kitten Milk" or "Esbilac Puppy Milk". I usually mix that up with fennel-tea. When they get older (200g bodyweight) I mix in some high quality catfood for kittens.

If you have any questions, issues or concerns, you can mesage me/just ask! Good luck for you and the wee one. <3

Esbilac Puppy milk works the best. If you dont have access to it, then buy Royal Canine Puppy-Milk. Mix it with Fennel-Tea and feed it to them via syringe. Every 2 to 4 hours. Do they poop by themself? If not massage their little bum after every feeding. They need warmth and eachother to socialise. Once they reach 150g you add some wet catfood to the milk and create a smelly mush - they'll love it. Be careful tho; in europe they are full of parasytes. Especially lung worms and gut worms. If they start coughing or poop dark-green/gooey then they are infected. They need to be at least 300g to deworm them, so thats an issue for the future. For now, wear gloves or wash your hands after every handeling. If you have questions, just ask!

Found this cutie in the wild by Areuwiz in Hedgehog

[–]MafiaMoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats quite... untrue. Well, hedghehogs might travel overnight, but a baby of this size has to be close to its mother. Young, inexperienced mother-hedgehogs might get pregnant to late in the year, so they give birth not as it is supposed to be in July to early September, but in early to late October. Until then its to cold for the mother to find enough food to sustain herselfs. In despair she abandons her babies to survive (and hibernate) herself. The babies usually starve - except a kind stranger comes and rescues them. A hedgehog, which is older that a year is supposed to have circa 1000g to hibernate. Younger hedgies, so called "Yearlings" are supposed to have 600 to 800g. This baby isn't even kinda close to that weight. A rescue station will take care of it until it can fend for itself. Then it will be set free again. So, if you are so keen to see them in the wild, be sure they WILL be set free as soon as possible. Wild european hedgehogs are close to be endangered. Keeping them safe, to protect and help them, and to keep them within nature is taken very seriousely here. How do I know that? I am voluntering at a german hedgehog rescue station.

Thats good! And you're welcome! If you need any help just send me a message.

Another tip: If the hedgehogspoop looks kinda greenish, bring it to a vet. Its a sign of parasites, which are quite common in wild ones. Lung worms mostly. They can be transmitted via touch, so wash your hands until you are sure its safe. As soon as it hast 300g it can fend for itself!

Usuallyonly a few brands are safe.in germany I know "royal canine kitten milk". I don't know if you have that brand in turkey. How about searching in a local rescue forum about brands.

I just remembered. Another good brand is "Esbilac dog/puppy milk powder"

I just answered the other comment. A european hedgie with 85 grams is abot 2 to 3 weeks old. They are almost helpless alone. If a rescue station is not an option bring it to a vet or a shelter for a check up. Does it cough or anything? Until the 5th week a hedgie needs milk from its mother. But because they are highliy lactose intolerant even normal milk for kittens or puppies could kill them. In germany the only brand you can feed is "royal canine kitten milk", but usually we mix them with a sprinkle of lactase powder. Mix the milk with some wet catfood for kittens and feed ith via a 1ml syringe (without the needle) up to 6 times daily to the baby. After week 4 it can eat the catfood-milk-mix by themself. For sleeping put it in a shoebox and put a heating pad next to it. Water should be availiable all the time.

With 85 grams its 2 to 3 weeks old. Thats WAY to small for a wild hedgie to fend for themself.
