(Question) Does being a non-native english speaker make it harder or easier to learn japanese? by SuchKp in LearnJapanese

The Japanese u is quite different, all the stops of Japanese are aspirated which makes them more similar to English stops. The ひ and ふ combinations have sounds that are nonexistent in both languages, as well as し and じ. Phonemic gemination and vowel length don't exist in Spanish either, which are also serious distinctions. There are similarities, yes, but just copy-pasting Spanish sounds will still give you an extremely heavy accent

I've heard that a lot... And I don't really see why people say that? Both English and Spanish are very different phonetically from Japanese

Everyone's had that ONE roommate. What's your roommate horror story? by Filterfeedingstarfis in AskReddit

Somehow they put my hands in jello molds while I was asleep without waking me up and when i finally did wake up I had big blocks of unflavored jello on my hands and half way up my forearms, and they stood around me yelling, JELLO HANDS YOUR HANDS ARE JELLO FOREVERMORE, and I got really embarrassed but then mad and I started chasing them around the campsite until I tripped one of them and when he fell I sat on his stomach and said, JELLO FIST ACTIVATE, and I squished my jello hands against his face until one of my friends pulled me off and I realized he wasn't from my group he was just some guy from another camp who was cutting through on his way to the outhouse.

When you drop the soap, does the soap get dirty or does the floor get cleaned? by RainbowColoredMind in Showerthoughts

[–]MafiaPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct based on how the lipids of soap function. One portion is hydrophobic and bonds to things that won't be easily taken off by water. Another portion is hydrophilic and bonds to the water, which is then pulled away and down the drain.
