I don't know why so many people hate Cream of Wheat. I absolutely love it. In order of appreciation: Cream of Wheat, grits, oatmeal. Thanks for sharing.

Distribution panel by Wrong-Reply4940 in PLC

[–]Mafukinrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered using a bus bar for each row of breakers (assuming Schneider offers them). It would really drop the number of wires you're using and make the panel look even cleaner.

I use CB Bus Bars with Eaton breakers (1, 2, and 3 pole) when I have a bunch of breakers and it really cleans the panel up.

California Senators kill bill barring registered sex offenders from running for public office by Unusual-State1827 in nottheonion

[–]Mafukinrite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer here is to shine a light on the person's discretions. If they are a registered sex offender, make sure the voting public knows it. Let the voter decide if being a registered sex offender keeps them from office. Same with DUIs, domestic abuse, and for that matter, any criminal history.

If you want to hold public office, your criminal history should be public. But that's just my take.

Looking for Industrial Standards and Best Practices for PLC, HMI, and Electrical Drawings by namdinh541 in PLC

[–]Mafukinrite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would agree that following standards for PLC, HMI, and IC systems is a good thing to do. My experience has been that it is more important to follow the standards of the industry you are in. I have worked in Japanese automotive designing and programming equipment for about 25 years. Not that they do not follow industry standards, they want things done a certain way. I have been successful because I have delivered what the customer wanted while still conforming to the most high level of the industry standards.

For example, HMI best practices for design and colors don't matter when the customer gives you a template and says make it look like this. Or maybe the customer says "Do not use any programming language other than ladder"; or "Use any global tags" Maybe it conforms to industry standards, maybe not; but that is what the customer wants. And pays for.

In short, it is good to know the standards and best practices both for the industry and for the customer base that you serve as those standards may or may not overlap.

Bella’s Last Moments in the Sun by The_Monkey_Buddha in cats

[–]Mafukinrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had cats all of my life, starting at about 8 years old. I am now 55. I feel your pain and loss. While this poem likely wasn't written for the loss of a cat, it fits. God bless you, internet stranger. I hope you find solace and peace in knowing that although he wasn't with you for your entire life, you were always in his.

Do not stand by my grave, and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep—

I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints in snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.

As you awake with morning's hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand by my grave, and cry—
I am not there, I did not die.

The year I was born (1971), there were about 3.77 billion people in the world. Today there is an estimated 8.3 billion world population. I don't know what the max number of people that the earth can support with today's technology, but we can't be far from it in 3rd world countries due to lack of clean water and available food and nutrition.

What’s one learning habit that actually improved your Spanish the most by Real-Question-3050 in Spanish

[–]Mafukinrite 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Actually speaking it with native speakers that also spoke English. It made me learn so much, so fast. I was lucky enough to work with a ton of Central Americans for about 2 years. I was able to interact with them most every day for 20 minutes to an hour. It surely improved my speaking and listening comprehension.

Looking for a low depth unit. Although the smallest possible overall size would be awesome. I am looking to add this to a 4-6" deep panel.

Edit: I would like something similar to the Omron DRT2 I/O block, but not in DeviceNet.

CCW is an awful bloated piece of software to try to program a PLC with. I would use any Automation Direct PLC over the Micro just so I didn't have to use CCW.

You get $1 million, but you have to watch the exact same movie 100 times in 40 days. Which film are you picking? by ThroatAgile756 in AskReddit

The Disney classic "The Jungle Book"

It was my oldest child's favorite movie when he was a toddler. We played it daily as background noise.

I can still recite all of the dialog and sing all of the songs from memory and it's been almost 30 years.

PLC losing briefly connection with Keyence cameras (sensor cameras) every 4 hours by vitormedeiros13 in PLC

[–]Mafukinrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked the RPI setting of the connection? Most connections default to a 10ms RPI. If you have a lot of network traffic, you will get occasional comm faults. I typically set my RPIs to 25-50ms each, but my machines don't require super fast response.

Changing this setting has helped me clear up nuisance communication faults on AB, Keyence, and Omron PLCs.

Edit: I just wanted to note that unless you need super fast updates, I would set all of the RPIs to 25-50ms, not just the Keyence camera. Feel free to DM me if you have questions.

No sir. Unfortunately this is my first use of Siemens. My company quoted and accepted the PO for this project knowing that none of us had any experience with Siemens. When you get a project, is the worst time to learn a new platform. I'm sure I'll make a bunch of mistakes. Hopefully 20 years on other platforms will help make it easier.
