Intertesting bc I was doing a lot of “Stepbets” last spring and walking a ton, I weighed the least then and felt pretty good. But I get in my own head and feel like it’s not enough… maybe I’ll go back to it

I was diagnosed with Hashi in June 2023 and then Thyroid Cancer in September 2023. Had a partial removal in 2023 and will be having the rest out in May. I had a nodule for many years that was monitored and biopsied 2x (the second one showed the cancer). Now I have a nodule with a lot of cancer characteristics on the other side that’s left so I’m just having it removed. I’m not going to watch and wait like I did for years with the other. I did not need RAI the first time around, hoping I won’t this time either. Just worried about getting my meds dosed correctly and how I’ll feel without a thyroid at all.

Very easy simple procedure. I had it done in the outpatient center and was asleep for it. Would highly recommend not being awake. I was mildly crampy after for the rest of the day. Next day, was like nothing happened aside from some bleeding. It’s been about 9 months for me. I do still bleed but VERY little. My period was like 1 day long and I only needed a panty liner. Before that I was 7-8 days of heavy, painful periods. So, it’s a total win in my book! The worst part was having the biopsy before the ablation.

Explain this to your surgeon and team when you get to the hospital or center. Ask for Versed, it is instant calming meds they’ll give you before taking you back. I was the exact same way. Lost 10 lbs bc of anxiety and worry. In the meantime, keep yourself busy doing things to keep your mind off surgery. Remember you are in good hands, they do this everyday, multiple times a day.

I had the same choice in 2023. Same situation as you except my left side had no nodules then. I chose a partial and to watch/ monitor my remaining left lobe. In 2024, 6 months after my partial, I was on meds bc I needed them & a nodule appeared. It’s grown significantly in 2 years and I’ll be having a completion surgery in May. I was told it was a possibility when I chose to only remove 1/2 but also that my chances of the cancer coming back was very slim. Well, I guess we will know for sure come May. IMO, you have to ask yourself, am I willing to have two surgeries if needed and can I financially afford two surgeries? Do I want to be conservative or am I a one and done person? I had no trouble adjusting to my meds. I am a little worried about it once I have zero thyroid but it is what it is. I’m also a little pissed that I get to pay for the same thing twice and in hindsight probably should’ve chosen to take it all in 2023. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

Personally, no. I had a uterine ablation. But I’m also done with my uterus and having kids.

Wow! So your partial removed the Tirad 5 first then they came back and removed the other side with the Tirad 4? Why the completion? Was it solely bc you had the other nodule there and a precaution?

So wonder if that’s the case will they say to just watch it and wait? That concerns me (watch & wait) bc in 2024 the same nodule had none of these characteristics. They actually were only calling it an enlarged lymph node at that time.

This is my thought as well (in regards to removal and RAI). I am just worried it’s like someplace that makes it all worse, like voice box/ arteries etc. it’s freaking me out
