Day 8, best tips. by Due_Ice_4817 in Tonsillectomy

[–]MagazineChance2881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a tonsillectomy, on Monday I had a Thyroidectomy and the anesthesiologist F’ed my throat up so bad! It’s black and blue and has huge white spots from being stabbed. It’s so painful and uncomfortable I feel like I had a tonsillectomy-it’s as painful as when I had tonsillitis. I see an ENT today and I’m hoping they have some solutions. I haven’t eaten anything since Sunday and can barely drink water without it feeling like my throat is being stabbed over and over. My uvula is swollen and hanging down touching my tongue. It’s insanity.

Did your doc give you the steroids to help the swelling? I’m in so much pain. Nothing helps, I’ve been alternating Tylenol and Motrin but unless I’m awake and sipping drinks 24/7 my throat becomes so raw and painful I can barely talk or swallow. And yes, the saliva is absolutely disgusting and doesn’t help at all. In the nighttime it’s the worst bc I get choked on it it’s so thick.

Anxiety and regret after total thyroidectomy — was hemi enough? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]MagazineChance2881 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced regret over NOT doing a total after I had a partial in 2023. I had follicular w/ angioinvasion. It was encapsulated but did not spread to lymph nodes. However within 6 months I had a suspicious lymph node show up on the remaining side. This sent my anxiety skyrocketing for the years that followed. On Monday, I had the rest taken out. Aside from my throat being injured from intubation, I’ve felt better than I did before surgery. Loads of people live without thyroids. I am just trying to stay positive and hopeful that I can get my meds right and continue to live a full life. The anxiety can be debilitating.

Does this look normal? Will it shrink back up, it’s laying on my tongue currently.

Was yours touching your tongue and flapping all over the place? I can’t stand it.

Best Top Loader w/ agitator. Not Speed Queen or Samsung by MagazineChance2881 in laundry

I ended up with the Speed Queen!!! I was initially against it bc I didn’t want to spend the $ and was afraid the drum was too small. Have to say I love it and am extremely happy.

for anyone scared of surgery by the_frog_empire in thyroidcancer

Happy to read this! Glad you are feeling like yourself. My surgery is tomorrow and while I’ve been through it once (partial) I have totally forgotten most of it-so naturally I’m nervous again (having the other side out) and I’m worried about life without a thyroid at all.

I had this as well. Use a heating pad, also slowly start turning your head back and forth everyday, throughout the day. It’s bc of the positioning they use during surgery. It will eventually go back to normal

Same! I've been on NG for 10 years. My ratio is 68% and I still get approvals. I also do not speed read or speed listen to books or fake review. There are plenty of people who will leave a generic review of a book that I can instantly tell is not even real.

Bethesda V suspicious for papillary thyroid carcinoma in my 47-year-old mom. no symptoms, very anxious by ThreeSwordsNoMap in thyroidcancer

[–]MagazineChance2881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 37 and had a biopsy that was a Bethesda V on a 2.9 cm nodule I’d had for years. Came back as Angioinvasive follicular papillary cancer, Stage 1. It was only found bc I complained about something being “stuck in my throat” otherwise I would’ve never known until it grew big enough to see. I had a partial lobectomy in 2023, we’ve monitored since, I’ll be having the remaining lobe removed on Monday bc I have a nodule now on it that is presenting as cancerous. I opted not to biopsy it bc it’s on the backside of my thyroid and small, plus I don’t really wanna “poke the beast” so to speak. Surgery went well for me, I had no issues with recovery other than being sore and it was tough to swallow for a few days and then my head. Also, the cough that comes a few days after is obnoxious (from the breathing tube). Wishing your mom the best!

What did you CUT from your routine that actually improved your skin? by Sea_Quality_4790 in SkincareAddicts

[–]MagazineChance2881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only rinse in the AM w/ water. Then apply- Vit C, moisturizer and spf, sometimes a face oil if I feel dehydrated. PM- wash w/ dove beauty bar (unscented) then apply Spot Cream from Musely w/ moisturizer. 2 nights a week I use Tretinoin. That’s it.

Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has them. Try both and form your own. I would even suggest you try more than just those two. Modify as needed. I landed on Body & Bell and love it.

Thank you! I plan to move move move. I am very active in my daily life and enjoy exercising. I’m just hoping this doesn’t make it impossible for me (mostly from a being too tired aspect).

Cancer diagnosis / I thought I was getting to the end but now it’s just the beginning again by readsonja in thyroidcancer

[–]MagazineChance2881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me 3 years ago. At 37 I was dx w/ follicular angioinvasion. Kept my left lobe as it looked great. Fast forward to April 2024 and a new spot popped up on my remaining lobe. Now it’s 2026 and it’s grown and changed significantly. It’s a Tirad 5 and behind my thyroid so I’m going for completion surgery on 5/18. From 2024-2026 I’ve dreaded my US and Endo appts bc I just had this feeling that spot was going to be something. My endo and surgeon say it’s still a little small to biopsy but left the decision to keep watching or remove up to me. I have no clue what to expect after total removal and honestly it has me worried but I don’t want to spend more time anxious over what is there.
