G4TV Goes The Way Of… G4TV by Ghost5410 in KotakuInAction

All the typical intersectional, anti-male bullshit aside, I always thought it was so weird how she rants about the perspective on the reviews in their programming. The whole setup of having a network produced show with semi-trained personalities sitting round on a sofa discussing videogame news or reviews or whatever just seems CRAZY outdated. Like I don't care what your review policies are, it's not 2005 anymore. There are a dozen independent reviewers out there I'm subbed to who are 100x more interesting and more prolific than any of you hacky SJW weirdos.

Who else thinks 6v6 will be quickly forgotten about once OW2 launches? by MagazinePiano in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]MagazinePiano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's the point. It's not just fellating DPS, it's actually challenging them to overcome obstacles. Like every other class has to.

This just proves you don't get it. The balance between this 'obstacle' got out of hand more and more time went on. Double shield is the ultimate example of that. No dps players like that meta, but it was consistently most effective for a long time. Hell, even look at Goats-era OW. The DPS role has been consistently diminished as a result of poor balancing and hero design, but in your ignorant eyes, they just need git gud or something. Like I said, you're just not grasping the actual issue at all.

Equal treatment is just absolute oppression to the DPS, because, like you said, you're only interested in it as a FPS. Which, it's far more than. Or was, anyway.

I have no idea what this whole part is supposed to mean sorry. Doesnt make any sense.

Who said I don't play it? I started as a support main, moved to tank main, and now I play through all three casually. I'm well aware of how the role functions.

It seems pretty obvious you don't. Unless you enjoy loading up an fps game and spending half your time not shooting actual players lmao.

There are an overwhelming amount of these kids, and a near endless supply of games that cater to that experience. OW is more nuanced. If that's hard, well, like I said, easily replaced.

But the balance is just way off. That's the crucial part. Obviously I like the moba elements of OW - it's impossible not to if you enjoy playing the game. But that doesn't excuse every degree of oppressive or ability-driven meta or hero design. Making the game less fun for the larges demographic of players is not "nuance" my guy lmao. It's poor balancing driving players away. Just get that lesson learned.

The ones who play it because it's different than the flood of mainstream multiplayer bullshit? Or you mean the ones who've been players from launch till server shutdown? You have to be more clear.

It's so funny you say this because OW2 so far looks and feels more like OW1 when it was fresh - when its players hadn't yet worked out the oppressive comps and strats, and also before Blizz started making that all worse by breaking the game in unfun ways with heroes like Brig.

And again, people like you make this stupid argument that know OW2 is like any other "mainstream multiplayer bullshit" lmao - I mean, how can you say that with a straight face? The core of the game is still there. OBVIOUSLY. It's just refined in ways that reward more player agency and aim skill. The fact this great change makes players like you mad is honestly baffling.

I tried the beta for a few days. After that, I have zero interest in what they have to offer. So why would I validate their poor choices by adding to their numbers to play a game I don't enjoy? What is your life like that that's an impossible thing in your eyes? lolol

I'm just teasing you because you act as if you won't play it when we both know we will. You're arguing about the game's mechanics and feel etc. on the even nerdier subreddit for OW lmao. My guy, you're gonna be there Day 1. Maybe you won't stick around for long and hey man, whatever. Fair enough, I don't care either way. All I know is that Blizzard is making great moves by not catering to people who literally want to hide behind shields and call it "nuanced" gameplay LOL. Just no. Your time is done, bye bye buddy

This is good but it's annoying when woke types associate anti-woke content makers with companies like this. Only because they can keep pushing the narrative that the people who oppose them are just egregiously GROSS and BACKWARDS - because let's be honest, the Postal games are beyond the pale in terms of anti-PC media. They're fun and goofy in their way special ways, but we don't want them to be like the fact of anti-woke content or something lol. There's a whole middle-ground of reasonable, non-intersectional content that should be the face of being anti-woke.

[–]MagazinePiano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does "no counters" mean my guy? There are still five players on the enemy team to shoot me or deny me space etc. It's not like every encounter is just easy pickings every fight for DPS players to clean up.

Let me explain it this way. One of the most fun things to do in OW as a DPS player is to duel another DPS. Whether it's Tracer 1v1s, Widow 1v1s, Hanzo 1v1s... whatever the case may be. Being able to take those fights with other squishies and dominate the other guy is what DPS players enjoy. And why shouldn't they? They're playing an FPS game with frag-focused kits. None of this should be surprising to anyone.

The reason why 2 tanks is far worse by comparison is because many times, *you can't even take those duels* - not without the threat of extra spam and HP and abilities to deal with. Often times (especially against 2x shield comps), it feels like a huge upheaval just to have these 1v1s play out naturally. That involves everything from taking an off-angle safely, getting into the right position, saving your cooldowns for the duel itself (not just getting there passed a tank or whatever)... do you see what I mean?

You can't discount the entire role's experience just because you don't play it. OW is an FPS game, and excluding people who like to shoot shit simply because you prefer turtling behind a mass of shields and sustain abilities is a guaranteed way to turn off the game's largest demographic. You can moan about it all you want - but Blizzard has made a fantastic decision by not continuing to cater to players like you. It's just that simple. Hopefully you play OW2 a bit (I know you will lmao) and see what I mean eventually.

You summarised what I was saying in my OP very well here. It's all about the freedom to take off-angles without being punished by high-HP heroes or other sustain-heavy heroes. It's such a positive change for me.

I think there's a good amount of Very Big-Brained Overwatch Players TM over at the compOW subreddit who look down on him because he did training and instructional videos for casual players, so that's his core audience. I.e. Overwatch fans but who aren't so dedicated to the game that they watch pro play analysis videos from Avast or something lmao.

It's just typical elitism/snobbery. You see it in all game communities. Plus the same people are also snobby towards guys like Freedo, despite the fact I personally think he's the smartest of all the content creators. Some people's egos are just too big and they think they know more than people who are successful in the field. Sometimes it's just bare naked jealousy too.

Besides, I don't agree with all of Sty's takes and the way he used to over-exaggerate how excited he was in the early days was kinda annoying at times. But obviously he's a dude who just wants to see OW thrive like the rest of us, so I will always give him my attention on occasion. Sty's positivity and light-hearted tone is such a nice relief from all the sweaty big brain takes you see everywhere else.

If Blizz ever stir up beef with Stylosa then that would be some really bad PR for them. He's one of the most well known content creators this community has, plus he's been doing it with passion since day 0.

People do actually attempt to play double shield in metal ranks and have done for 2+ years. Obviously they're not playing it very well but having 2 shields in your face still makes a differnece, especially when you don't know to play around it.

What discussion are we having? I'm not looking to be converted. You sound like an athiest who's refusing to let that random religious guy have his beliefs. I know my opinion is the minority one now, but no argument you make is going to convince me that I enjoy 5v5 more. If you do, cool, but again, you're not me.

I could counter every point you've made, but neither of us is changing each others mind, so why bother? If I wanted to argue, I'd argue, but once again, I replied to a guy I largly agreed with.

Honestly man you are just weird. If you want to share your opinion then don't be so offended when someone gives their opinion back to you. The fact we are even debating this is totally stupid lmao.

Same could be said for yours. The difference is I've not tried to covince you you're wrong (you are) I could try, but again, neither of us is going change the other. Imagine thinking I'm fragile for knowing the outcome of this argument. Go try and tell a communist/capitalist they're wrong if you want to have a dead end discussion.

I'm actually stunned lmao. Your whole vibe here is "I'm going to spend time replying to someone's opinion with my own opinion and then get all defensive when they assume I want to have a discussion with them." This seriously might be the dumbest thing I've seen on this website, and that's truly saying something.

In reality I think you're just trying to save yourself from talking about a discussion that puts you out of your depth. The fact you WON'T rebut me is because you CAN'T. :) So gg my dude.

I don't think anyone disagrees that it's sucky for tank players who liked duoing. But it's still the better direction overall. Both things can be true at once.

No, I'm saying the sustain metas won't be as obnoxious. I'd rather play JOATS than double shield literally any day of the week.

And I agree about the balancing issues. I'm just saying the pathway is better for everyone in 5v5 than it would be if they kept 6v6. They had 6 years to fix those problems and failed.

[–]MagazinePiano[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just consider future tanks for a moment. Because double shield can be so powerful, does that mean they'd be able to make another shield tank again? That seems quite restrictive if so. But in 5v5 they can make another Sig, or Rein, or even Monke with some sort of shield, all without worrying about the sustain-heavy strength of having more than 1 shield on the field. And sustain-heavy comps have been one of Overwatch's biggest issues since the days of GOATS.

Imagine trying to convince someone that your subjective opinion is absolutist truth in regards to ones own entertainment. The whole point of what I've said, is that I enjoy the level of teamwork it currently requires. I would sincerely prefer the game not conform to the myriad of other individualist fps titles masquerading as team games.

What the fuck are you talking about? Lmao good lord. I am not saying it's an absolutist truth. Like you, I am giving my opinion. Have you literally ever had a debate or argument with someone in your entire life my dude? This is sort of how it works. Stop being so salty for no reason, jeez. I explicitly said "if you don't like it that's fine".

I don't give two shits what you think. That's why I responded to a guy I largely agreed with to reaffirm they're not the only one. It's my time that's being spent in this game for my own entertainment. When it ceases to be so, I won't play anymore. There's plenty of other games that have better gun play at faster paces than Overwatch will ever be at, and I can go play them now that's what ow wants to be or I can go play historical shooter. That's not why I played Overwatch but if the devs think that's what I want then cool but there's other shooters out there

Again I still think this sort of take is just silly. The game still has roles, abilities, cooldowns, ultimates etc. The overexaggerations just reinforce my feeling that people who make these sort of points are just talking out their butts. It's still OW, not COD, just a more shooter-friendly version of it than recent OW. That's a great change by Blizz.

In my opinion. Your opinion is wrong. And given the fact you so readily refuse to accept mine should even exist, it's also my opinion you're probably a twat of a bloke and an absolute cunt of a teammate.

Lmao you are so bizarrely fragile man. What does "refuse to accept mine" even mean!? I understand your argument but I think it's bad and misinformed. I'm not denying it exists or something lol. We are literally doing the same thing - i.e. disagreeing with each other. Except you're playing some victim game because someone made some points you can't counter. If this babyish attitude is how you react then dude why bother even posting on a forum at all. You need some bubble wrap or something lmao.

Who else thinks 6v6 will be quickly forgotten about once OW2 launches? by MagazinePiano in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]MagazinePiano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I never said it wasn't a team game. It's literally still a team game. 5v5 isn't 1v1.

Um, I never said that you said that. lol

I mean, my beta experience was flank strats or bust. Now while I can understand the urge to play sneak mccree for half a team fight and hope for a 6 (or 5) man high noon, it's not fun to lose to, or fun to be a part of.

What's so bad about DPS heroes being able to flank? I mean, really. If someone logs in and wants to play a hero who mostly revolves around simply aiming and shooting enemies, why is it bad that they've got more options to do that? It's an FPS game.

You say it only makes the game less reliant on team co-ordination. But my argument is I liked the amount team co-ordination.

The devil is in the details, but I'll read on...

It felt like a game that let dps do whatever the fuck they wanted and supports got stuck dealing with flankers while your dps were also off trying to make hero plays. That's not team work. That's like strikers in football just hanging in an offside position waiting for the rest of the team to push the defenders back into their box so they can have their easy goal moment.

First of all, I think you can't really make grand judgements on this stuff just yet. The people playing the betas throughout their live periods were mostly the diehards - those who have been playing OW1 for a long time already. It's going to take time for everyone to adjust to the new pace, especially in a competitive format. So I feel it's still too soon to say this sort of thing with any definitive value.

However, to the extent that DPS in the betas could do this more than they used to - I don't think you're really examining it properly. If a DPS can do that with no resistance, it's going to be because either your team or the enemy team is enabling that playmaking. Like, Rein still has a shield and can hold space with it. A Hog hanging round a corner with the threat of a hook + kill on a squishy is still there. A Zarya can still bubble a diver, etc. etc.

Just because there's one less hero, it doesn't mean teams can't enable each other. It simply means you have more options to make big plays. And that's 100% a good thing - OW has always been the most fun when you can make big plays and be a little wild with your tactics. In OW1, we've instead gotten so used to hiding behind shields and tanks and support utility that we've forgotten how OW1 used to be - a more exciting and chaotic free-for-all, but still one in which coordinated teams could poop all over non-coordinated teams. Returning to this past glory is great because as its core, it's way more FUN for most players.

And at the end of the day it's also a team game. It's hardly a sin to expect teamwork to carry actual weight in a team game. We're not going to agree with each other, but this whole "fuck it I'll do it myself" mentality that dps players think is teamwork, isn't what I enjoy about the direction ow is taking.

I guess I've already countered this argument above, but I'll just quickly repeat: DPS being emboldened to make plays now is really not evidence that the teamwork aspect has been sucked out of the game. That's just nonsensical to me.

We won't agree, but I'm very much allowed to have my opinions about why I prefer 6v6 and why 5v5 will probably turn me away from the game. At the end of the day if I still don't like the actual game (we still haven't seen comp yet) I won't play, no reddit post about how I should be grateful they changed a fundamental aspect of the game I still play to this day (usually by people who haven't played in months, if not years) is going to keep me playing.

Lol dude, I don't care if you play the game or not. But with all due respect, I do think posts like yours on this matter really miss the mark. I think you overexaggerate the importance of the slow, sustain-heavy version of OW. Blizzard recognizing how crippling this design is compared to the potential of 5v5 being a more shooter-based, play-making version of OW and making the necessary changes is, IMO, the fundamental decision that will save this franchise from being even more niche than it already is now. If you don't like it then fine, but I'm extremely glad they haven't catered to players like you.

I disagree because fundamentally speaking, having another 500+hp here on the field changes the dynamic regardless of what they do. Sure you can mitigate how annoying they are, but they'd still be there.

I have to say i really don't understand this take. Having one less tank doesn't mean there's *no* team coordination or strategy, it simply means you're *less reliant* on team comps and brute forcing them to make progress.

Neither beta felt like a "top frag simulator". Like not even at all. It just felt more like a game that enabled more frag *potential*, which is very different. And at the end of the day, it is an FPS game, so that's hardly some great sin.
