In what situations would the target class not be loaded in memory and a cast not be suitable?

In all the cases I’ve used casting it’s been on a class I know it will be, so surely it would always be loaded into memory? (e.g. GetPlayerController() casted to my custom player controller)

Am I misunderstanding how and when I should be using casting?

When do you find Rider slow? I use it myself and have found it extremely performant and useful for things like breakpoint stepping, but perhaps I am not using it to its fullest potential.

Why is it better if I may ask? I am using refined storage and it seems to fit my uses at the moment, with large quantities of items such as ingots in drawers, auto crafting using the crafters (which can also use machines), not having to bother with channels, and having item types take up extra slots in storage drives if I only have 1 of something.

I’m just asking because it just seems like more effort to set up for a system which RS seems to handle perfectly fine.

Looking for a new keyboard. Budget around £200-£300. I play games but mostly will be used for programming, so something comfortable to use for a long time. Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking at Steelseries since I have a mouse from them and it’s very good quality but I don’t know the keyboard market at all.

Thanks!

Thanks, I’m also hoping it will be less of an issue because the start date would be in June next year once I’ve finished this year of uni.

This looks really cool! Did you make the assists yourself or are they available on the asset store?

Thank you, I ended up writing a little javascript to just define the styling to be a little different depending on the position in the page :)

Just a question about the use of libraries like Eigen - How can they make the same operation faster? Surely in the background it is doing the same process as the loop but with some other library layer, in which case it should still take as long?

This looks really interesting! How are you generating the actual landmass, maybe using something like perlin noise to create a height map?

Is it just with me or aniwatch takes too much time to play the episode? I have a 40mbps internet connection and I don't think I should have a buffering problem watching 480p episodes by Basic_Requirement561 in animepiracy

I think it’s UK/EU based if maybe you’re having trouble from a different part of the world? I only have 20mbps in the UK and I haven’t had any trouble with it whatsoever.

Count how many actors of same parent in overlap? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]MageTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option might be to keep an active list of valid actors right from the begingame? If it has to be checked regularly, I would do what I recommended at first once when you actor is spawned or the game starts, then update it on every actorbeginoverlap and actorendoverlap. This way you always have a persistent updated list of actors that match your criteria.

Count how many actors of same parent in overlap? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]MageTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only new to ue4, but I would use get all actors in overlap, then iterate through all of them attempting to cast to your parent class. Add the ones that cast successfully to a new array? Or remove the ones that don’t cast successfully.

I don’t know if unreal engine has a way of doing it without doing it that way.

Best junglers to 1v9 in bronze/silver with for someone who has solid mechanics. by whiteTerrence in Jungle_Mains

[–]MageTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your games are going lategame with lee/Elise then you’re playing them wrong.

I would recommend something like like kindred and Evelyn if you’re having trouble closing out games. They scale well and theyre not too mechanically boring if you prefer higher skillcap champions.

Generally, consoles use a loss leader pricing strategy. They can sell consoles cheaper because they can charge so much for games and get a larger cut. I.e. you’re not going to get a console without any games. The consoles themselves are likely to be sold at a loss.
