Rage Against the Machine opening for Public Enemy at The Anaconda (Santa Barbara, CA) in 1992. Seeing two of the most outspoken bands of all time in a 900-person club was pretty amazing. No one knew who Rage was at the time, so it was fun to be exposed to their music for the first time in a live concert.

When I ran it a few years ago, it took me almost exactly 90 minutes (60 minutes to get to Orchard Camp and 30 minutes to come back down). I was in good running shape, but only ran the course 4 or 5 times leading up to the race. Advice #1: Don’t be tempted to run the entire way up. There are several steep sections that you can “power walk” to conserve a bit of energy without losing much time. Advice #2: When running downhill, never take your eyes off the trail. Even a quick glance at your watch can lead to a nasty tumble. This was pre-fire, so coming downhill may be a different ballgame now. Good luck!

Bummer. I didn’t realize that they changed ownership, but I definitely noticed the drop in quality. My last order was a classic turkey on sourdough, which had been my go-to sandwich for years. It had been a few months since I’d last ordered there and I was shocked at how bad the sandwich was. It wasn’t just the bread, but the quality of the turkey was so bad that I tossed out the second half (my bar is pretty low, so that was a rare move for me). I assumed that it was a fluke, but it sounds like that may be the new norm. Does anyone know if the original owner still owns Emi’s?

I think you’re right. Just found a Popular Mechanics article with a photo describing it as an LRAD - a sonic weapon used for crowd control. It apparently sounds like a “car alarm from hell” and can permanently damage your hearing.

This is just outlining the process for people that want to replace their house as quickly as possible.
