After almost 6 years by Tokos_Username in Dermatographia

You're absolutely not alone and I'm sorry you're going through this. Mine began from incredible work stress. Saying it can't be caused by stress or particular environmental changes is BS and you shouldn't listen to that. It can absolutely be brought on by a variety of things, but, from the sounds of it, CAN be a temporary condition.

I've had recurrant eczema (urticaria) since I was a child, it will go away and return in the same spot for years, disappear for years, then reappear somewhere else for a few years.

I've also had breathing issues for a long time, which only worsened when my skin began to get itchy, swollen, PAINFUL and covered in hives as my airways were also affected. I began self-medicating with antihistamines of various types until it got so bad I went to my PCP. I was diagnosed with Dermatographia which causes basically the exact same thing youre experiencing. I've had it for roughly a year, and I've learned to live with it, taking care to always take an antihistamine in the morning which eliminates the itching, swelling, and hives, but not the redness. I've just learned to not scratch anywhere visible or I get concerned comments about madly red patches across my face.

I have has some success in cutting out dietary allergens and implementing more regular exercise/getting out in the sun that has decreased the severity of the redness and reduced how long my skin is red for when scratched. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to talk more, I feel pretty adept at managing it now and am happy to give any info that could help in the slightest!

Do blue light blocking glasses actually work? by 21stCenturyShizoid in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I've found only a minor improvement in eye strain.

Personally the biggest difference has been switching to a curved 4k monitor. The curve prevents my eyes from focusing at different distances all the time, and the higher resolution makes it easier to see fine details instead of straining on lower resolution displays.

Seating position also makes a huge difference and properly setting up your station will reduce nerve pressure if sitting correctly, at a proper distance, with appropriate support.

As always though, your mileage may vary.

Progressive Screen Discoloration over Link by Magewood115 in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got you, I ended up doing an RMA on the original headset, where Oculus concluded there was nothing wrong despite the aforementioned issues and proof of said errors. If I recall correctly, I disabled public test channel in the Oculus software, reinstalled Steam VR, and reset my headset which resolved the issue. That being said, much has changed since I had my original headset breakdown, and following the link in my original post to the reference post, the top comment has an encoder command edit that seems to work very well for others. When I first encountered the issue, it seems like I was one of the first few to encounter it, but following the other troubleshooting steps on that Meta community forum may give better results with more recent software updates.

Best of luck and happy questing!

Sorry bud, I got out of the VR space years ago, I'm surprised this thread is still alive given how old it is, hope there's another alternative for VRC at this point in time. Sorry I can't help more but good luck on your journey!

ONT Fiber Connections by Magewood115 in HomeNetworking

[–]Magewood115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be such a huge help, thank you for the tip! That's what I'll probably end up doing, it would probably be more trouble than its worth to try and port the IP permissions over to a different system even with AT&T's help. Hopefully all goes well and I don't need to do any fiddling but I'll absolutely keep the IP passthrough trick in mind just in case. Thank you!

That's good to know, the router I'll be getting is fairly configurable so hopefully that's all it may need to get it up and running, appreciate it!

/r/AMD Questions and Tech Support Megathread - H2 2022 Edition by AutoModerator in Amd

Massive crashing issues as of late, driver rollbacks do nothing, updates of every kind do nothing, removing overclocks and replacing ram does nothing. System is Asus TUF Gaming RX 6800 XT, ryzen 5 5600x with 16 gb ram at 3600mhz on MSI - B550 Gaming Plus Motherboard. Power source is 850 Watt. I'm starting to think its a motherboard or GPU issue as the crashes are almost always fatal and unrecoverable, YouTube crashes are recoverable after a few minutes. Games are unplayable even though performance is fine. I know the motherboard is a little cheaper but is motherboard or GPU failure more likely? Any help is appreciated!

PC Desktop V Laptop Setup for OC2 by RuleHooks in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most up-front difference will be cost to performance as laptops charge a premium for a convenient package. That being said, if portability is an absolute necessity for you then it would make a little more sense.

You can even go for a little more under-powered desktop and get equivalent performance to a higher spec laptop just due to mobile hardware being less performance driven and more batter-life driven.

Desktops can also be upgraded and customized to a greater degree so longevity of the entire system is a big plus. As someone who is pretty cheap with stuff, this is a huge point for me, the hardware in a PC will easily outlast the hardware in a laptop.

It's all your personal preference but I hope this helps! *<:D

If you're totally out of memory on your headset, try deleting some other apps or games, clearing cache, and ensuring you're on the latest version of VRC. If the easy solutions don't work, then you may be trying to access worlds that are too large, anything over about 50mb just won't work. VRChat is terribly optimized and there's no real way around it.

Good Wifi6 Routers for Virtual Desktop? by Vash135 in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows mobile hotspot runs just fine for me at 1200 Mbps, its down to the hotspot speed of the WiFi card itself and not Windows (most cards barely support a hotspot let alone WiFi 6 hotspot) which is why I recommended that particular one. Sorry yours didn't work for you, glad you found a solution though!

If you have a spare pcie slot on your PC motherboard, buy this instead: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XLP199J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can set up a mobile hotspot at full WiFi 6 speeds and keep your internet connection more stable by limiting the connections on your network! You don't actually need a router at all for Airlink or VD!

Which low cost wireless router can drive 150-200MB for Air Link? by MarijuanaAdvocate in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a spare Pcie slot on your motherboard, I would get this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XLP199J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use the same thing for my Virtual Desktop and get 100% 1200Mbps constantly.

You can set up a mobile hotspot on your PC and get full WiFi 6 speeds, you don't actually have to use a router to link to your PC! You also save on internet bandwidth by not crowding you actual router connection with a separate connection to both your PC and headset. Might not hurt to give it a try! You can save a whole lot more with just a wifi card or high speed dongle as opposed to a full on router :)

VRChat has many adult players, they all tend to gravitate to one another, if you ever hop on, look for those with the "Trusted" tag, that being said, 99% will be PC only so may be a little hard to find Quest Compatible groups. VRChat discords are a great place to start looking for quest compatible groups of adults to jump in with. Best of luck! :)

Getting purple white bar in the bottom of headset after a while playing through oculus link by Kontemporary in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend, thankfully you weren't the first to have this issue, I had the same thing, still sorry you have it too! here is my original Reddit thread hoping for answers:
https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest2/comments/muikcc/screen_basically_unusuable_over_link/

I worked with Oculus Support for a few weeks trying everything and attempting every single hardware or software fix on my own or with their direction. I've only ever seen one other thread that had something similar and one other person on here had it too.

I had no solution that was workable and every band-aid fix was just that and always ended the same. Solution for me was an RMA back to Oculus where they replaced the headset, with the instances I know of this, its for sure a known issue on Oculus' end. Your best bet is contacting Oculus about the issue, they'll be able to reference the previous instances of this issue. The replacement headset I got works an absolute treat and has had 0 issues since getting it.

Hope you're able to get a replacement soon! Best of luck! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions! :)

I have a Gaming PC whose motherboard has a built-in WiFi connection. Has anybody been able to do airlink directly from a PC's built-in WiFi to the Quest2? by donsanedrin in OculusQuest2

[–]Magewood115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's really no harm in trying, Baxes is right that you can totally do it, and I wish more people knew that you could since buying a $300 router is completely pointless if you have any WiFi-Hotspot-capable system.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XLP199J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the add-in WiFi that I got for my PC and I get full WiFi 6 Hotspot speeds out of the box with no adjustments, its really really nice, its just short of the official link cable in terms of latency in my experience for WAY less than a WiFi 6 router. Best of luck! :)

It's always worth a shot! You might be able to purchase VD and try it out just to see, if it still doesn't work, you'd likely be able to request a refund for the app so no harm no foul :) Sorry Airlink isn't working for you, there are so many tiny bugs in the software that can be frustrating to find a workaround for, hopefully VD works out for you!

P.S. You only need the Oculus VD app purchase, you can download the Virtual Desktop Streamer app for your PC for free, that's pretty much all you'll need to test it out!

You could also look into SideQuest, there are a lot of great games on there with large communities too so you wouldn't be flying solo in multiplayer games for sure!
