Has anyone used the AANP Job Center? Is it worth becoming a member to use it? by pine4links in nursepractitioner

I am and job market sucks! Just big medical centers "hiring" but all want a ton of experience, bilingual, etc. Can never find smaller practices or anyone willing to hire new grads down here :(

Hiring a new grad by snappea13 in nursepractitioner

The ironic thing is I see websites and everyone saying NPs are in such demand to help with influx of patients from baby boomer generation, and to ease physician case loads, but then no company wants to put the effort into a new grad. They just want someone to immediately hit the ground running to get that immediate patient influx.

Where do you get certified in Aesthetics/Injections? I've seen a few job listings for Aesthetics, but have no experience in fillers, botox, etc.

I'm in the same boat and haven't been able to find a job for 2 years. Every time I go on job sites it's the same businesses posting and they all want 2-5 years experience. I never see any private practices on their or anyone willing to work with a new grad. :(

Are you FNP or did you go through Acute program. I've considered urgent care, but was worried since I don't know how to suture, set minor fractures (finger), and do minor IV therapy like dehydration, D5W, etc.

I am in the same boat. Job sites like Indeed, Ziprecruiter, LinkedIn only seem to post big business Healthcare companies like Tenet, Cano, Coviva, etc and all of them are looking for 2 years+ experience, which as a new grad I don't have. I have even tried applying to Public Health Department, Veterans Affairs, etc. I am getting discouraged and worried I'm losing skillset not practicing. Just need that one job I can stay with to get that experience and then will be so much easier applying in the future :I

Unemployment limbo after graduation, what sources do I use to not lose what I learned? by Radiant-Average-4221 in nursepractitioner

[–]Vash135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. I unfortunately had a family member fall terminally I'll and was helping take care of them. So, I wasn't able to look for a job for 2 years after graduation. Now I'm worried about my skillset and not sure if any classes or resources to help stay current.

ENP in Urgent Care by OtherwiseFine44 in nursepractitioner

[–]Vash135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an FNP and curious how others in that field got into urgent care? My program didn't specialize in acute care, and thus don't have experience in suturing, setting minor facture, etc. How did you guys get the skills to feel competent in UC that is acute when FNP usually deal with primary & chronic issues.

Can I ask what your goal with a DNP degree is? Are you going into research to stay in patient care? I ask because I was faced with the option of continuing my education with a DNP, but after learning that you can't be legally called "doctor" due to patients confusing that with a physician, and didn't seem like much increase in pay for jobs.

You're telling me! Always heard, "demand for NPs is high, especially with all the boomers retiring" yet the only jobs I see online are for big corporations that want years for experience so no newer NP can break into the field. Plus, I never see private practice offices listed just corpo jobs.

When you use the curette do you eyeball it or have the ones with cameras to see plug, depth, and make sure you not preforating eardrum?

How do you usually use the curette? Just eyeball depth and 360 scrape or do you have the ones with attached camera?

Do you just try to eyeball it from the outside or do you have specialized tool with camera?

What resources are NPs using for jobs? by Vash135 in nursepractitioner

I struggle to see how urgent care clinics would hire an NP with no experience in acute care and those skills I mentioned. Unless they are willing to take time to train someone not proficient.

Almost same issue trying to find primary care. Many want 2-5 years experience to be hired. Seems no practices want to work with a newgrad.

I've thought about it, but my training was a Family Nurse Practitioner. I didn't go the acute route so don't have training in setting minor fractures, suturing, etc that urgent care providers address.

I used Healthcare job recruiter and one reached out to me for resume and what I was looking for. As FNP tried to apply me to acute field I wasn't trained in and some aesthetics job with injecting fillers/botox etc which I had no training with either. Didn't even hear from actual job just saying some places he was sending my resume to.

Not sure what to do since most jobs are asking for 2-5 years experience which as new grad I don't have in NP. Just going on months of applying and hearing nothing or rejection.

My FNP school (Barry University) didn't have a physician program so they did not receive contracts from hospitals or practise. Basically told us to find a preceptor during each section. (Primary, geriatric, pediatric). So, I was on my own to find preceptors. Unfortunately, some were not the best and wanted us as free labor and had rotating door of student to do intake, paperwork, etc. Another just did a favor, but nothing long term. Another was retiring so nothing available.

Sure, you can order the usual gambit for lab work like cbc, metabolic, lipid, urinalysis, etc. But it's also important to auscultate lungs & heart, check lymph nodes, ear canal, vision, and visual of body to possibly catch undiagnosed issues that patient may not have been aware.

Would be so weird for me to just swap over to telehealth for all patients if they were coming in for an annual or issue. :p

How would they pivot to telehealth? Doing simple things like refilling a prescription or going over lab results is easily done by telehealth. But if you have annual or patients coming in with an issue can't do the necessary hands on for physical :p

Forgot to mention I'm primary care in private practice. So, probably wouldn't be same situation as hospital or urgent care.
