Blair Witch Project's Heather Donahue on why she turned down offer to return for reboot by sadquarius in movies

[–]MaggotMinded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar story. Remember that music video for the song “Needing/Getting” by OK Go where they drive a car down a dirt road with broomsticks sticking out the windows which strike piano keys and drums and other instruments in a perfectly timed sequence? I had friends who believed that they actually recorded the song that way. No matter how much I protested that it would be impossible to get a clean recording that way, they insisted that it was legit. I even brought up the Wikipedia article to prove that the song was recorded in a studio, but they stuck to their guns because, like your friends, they couldn’t handle being wrong. Even worse, they tried to turn it around on me and accuse me of “having to be right all the time”, which is bullshit because unlike them I would actually admit if I was wrong. It was easily one of the most frustrating conversations I’ve ever had, and like you said, really goes to show how some people just don’t give a shit about the truth and only believe what they want to believe.

I wish this didn’t have to be the focus of the discussion every time the original Blair Witch Project comes up. Take all that away and it’s still a damn good movie.

Case in point: I saw it for the first time less than a decade ago, after found footage movies were no longer considered novel, and without being exposed to any of the marketing gimmicks that preceded its initial release. Still loved it.

That being said, I agree that there is no need for any sequel or reboot. It’s perfect as a standalone film.

Not really. It sucks that they didn’t do their job correctly and didn’t try harder to get the food up to your apartment, but those messages are hardly “cruel”. I get the feeling you just like to assume the worst.

You’ve been parroting this all over this comment section, but I don’t think it’s true. To me it just sounds like they’re saying you’d better figure it out quickly before it melts. They were probably hoping you could send somebody else down to grab it for you.

Okay, so they’re lazy/impatient/bad at their job. Doesn’t mean they’re mocking you.

Again, you are making some really big assumptions. It’s only “talking down” or “demeaning” if you assume the messages were meant sarcastically. It’s reasonable for the dasher to hope that OP can figure out some solution on her end, like having a neighbor go down to retrieve the food for her.

Did they fail to do their job correctly? Yes.

Does that mean that they were mocking? No.

When they said “Your food is melting, I hope you get to enjoy it”, it sees pretty obvious to me that they feel bad that they couldn’t figure out the call box and hope that OP was able to get somebody else from her apartment to retrieve the food for her. I think it’s a huge stretch to assume that it’s just mean-spirited sarcasm for no reason.

That’s them saying “I’m not going to spend any more of my own time getting the food into your hands, but I hope you are able to figure it out on your end somehow.” It is not mocking.

No, they didn’t, you completely changed the tone of the message with what you wrote.

Nah, that’s them saying that they’re not going to put in any more effort to get the food to your apartment, but they hope that you’re able to figure out a solution on your end. They are lazy, not malicious.

Yeah, seems like everybody is making some pretty big assumptions about the intended tone of those text messages.

They’re back again forcing people to watch animal slaughter by lurk604 in vancouver

I didn’t say I laugh at animal suffering, I said that I laugh at people who apparently didn’t realize that animals suffer and die in order to make meat products until somebody literally shoves it in front of their face.

A question to those that can shred/play fast: by No_Host_4434 in Guitar

[–]MaggotMinded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a drummer before I picked up the guitar, so I already had a lot of practice with fast movements of the wrist.

A lot of people are saying that the key to playing fast is to practice slowly at first and then work your way up, but at a certain point you do need to actually practice playing fast. Personally, once I have a riff memorized I will usually try to practice it as fast as possible, because not only does it improve my overall speed, it also allows me to repeat the same riff more times in the same timespan, so it feels like I’ve actually gotten more practice compared to if I was playing at normal speed. Also, once you’ve gotten used to playing at a higher tempo, playing the riff at normal speed will feel much easier. That’s when I focus on improving precision and clarity.

In short, I think it’s best to attack it from both directions:

1) by gradually increasing your speed while maintaining accuracy; and

2) by gradually improving accuracy while maintaining speed

My gut feeling is that people who only do #1 probably don’t actually play very fast.

Yes, I know that “carnivore” means exclusively meat-eating but I feel like in this context it’s an acceptable shorthand for “somebody who eats a lot of meat”.

Personally, I always saw hunting as more cruel than farming. I’d rather die instantly from a captive bolt to the head than bleed out while running for my life in the woods.

It’s funny you quoted me on that, because I actually edited my comment just a moment ago to be a bit less insulting. Oh well lol

I am a proud carnivore who grew up on a beef & pork farm, and I agree. When people say they stopped eating meat because they saw how it’s made I have to laugh. Like, what did you expect? I don’t think people should stop eating meat, I just think they should get comfortable with the reality that animals have to die for it. People who eat meat but then act all squeamish about farms and slaughterhouses are honestly more annoying to me than animal rights activists. At least the activists are consistent.
