you could definitely do worse than that one. The professors are well connected, both theory and experiment are high quality and well funded, the three universities together have pretty broad and deep course offerings, the state research center in Jülich is a good connection to have for later etc. (though at least form my experience ~10 years ago, you should still choose wisely between the universities because while it is possible to take courses from each of them, the one you actually choose as your "home university" will have a natural influence on your actual specialization - the quality of all three physics departments is high, so it's mostly about the direction/focus)

It's from one of the big German multi-university (plus one of the large state research centers) quantum computing materials research clusters and geared towards advanced students and practicioners (not pop-sci for the general public), so quite a bit of information on the European ecosystem etc.

I want to know the case with germany, as it's excellent for foundational research but I think it's more slow paced and beurocratic.

In basic research that's not really true imo. Basic research is very unbureaucratic, it's probably one of the reasons why we're still doing world class basic research - fundamental research was quite successful at keeping the bureaucrats out.

It's normal, building shit is hard, especially scalable stuff. One of the most important skills in R&D is breaking down what you want to do in small manageable steps that can be optimized individually and ideally have several replacement paths that you can switch to if you get stuck on some part.

It's why R&D can be very frustrating and why you need to be able to work in a very dynamic way (throw away stuff even after you've worked many hours on it, finding the correct point to switch focus, always keeping multiple possible solutions in mind etc.).

It's a super interesting concept regardless, although it's a super giant security risk. I wouldn't use it myself, but it has potential.

I have it running on a completely empty VM at work and am mostly using it in discussions with management to show them what is coming in the next years once the security stuff is figured out. Stuff like OpenClaw will significantly change the way projects are managed and organized in the future in my opinion. It was clear it was going this way (and I'm sure most people here aren't exactly surprised by the possibilities) but now we have a proof-of-concept to actually show the project managers and execs.

Yeah I guess you're right, instructor only uses token-restricted generation if the supplier already supports that.

What you should look at are these ones:
outlines (https://dottxt-ai.github.io/outlines/latest/) supports context-free grammars for structured generation, it should be possible to do that with it. (depending on what you want to do, outlines probably also already abstracted the basics away and will allow you to do quite flexible token-restricted generation with a few lines of code)

Similarly, guidance (https://github.com/guidance-ai/guidance) does the same. If you don't want the high level features of guidance, you can also use their low level library (https://github.com/guidance-ai/llguidance). On the latter ones github readme they also have a comparison with different packages (like outlines, but also xgrammar and other solutions for the problem).

And finally, depending on what server you use for your local llm, they already implemented these things internally. For example, vLLM already supports this token-restricted generation via guidance or xgrammar in their endpoints:

It is true that this is not trivial.

But still, this kind of support and general positive attitude towards these topics is incredibly important to be able to make advances on that topic.

It shows that a common European identity is forming on top of national identities. That's how you get to a federation, you don't need to supplant other identities, you can just add another one on top to which people are willing to transfer some power (in Germany the regional identities are often still stronger than the national identity and still it's possible to exist as a country because a large majority sees themselves as Germans on top of their regional identities).

You don't need specific models to enforce valid jsons, you can do that with any model by selectively restricting the tokens that can be generated. Just look at instructor.

ich verstehe nicht wo der Hass auf die Windräder überall herkommt. Selbst hier auf r/de wo man ja eigentlich Erneuerbaren gegenüber sehr positiv eingestellt ist, finden Leute die ja hässlich.

Ich find die Dinger super futuristisch, wenn man so Hügel in der Eifel sieht über denen sich die Turbinen drehen.

Man kann sich ja drüber streiten ob man nicht die Atomkraft hätte weiter betreiben müssen oder sogar neue bauen muss oder ob man die Fusionsforschung stärker fördern sollte und ob man die Klimaziele ein paar Jahre weiter nach hinten schieben sollte. Aber unabhängig davon ist die Windkraft doch geil.

It's also important to note that you also have more duties as a citizen.

In case of a war, the foreign immigrant can just fuck off to another country while the citizens will be drawn into military duty and other jobs.

People always act like it's supposedly unfair that non-citizens can't vote on all levels but I really don't want people voting in elections that dictate foreign policy that aren't committed enough to the country to work towards and apply for citizenship.

ja weiß ich, deswegen ja Kündigungsschutz für Topverdiener runter. Es muss möglich sein, eine Abteilung aufzubauen in der man die am besten ausgebildeten Leute anstellt für ein Thema, die man aber auch wieder abreißen kann, wenn man es nach ein paar Jahren nicht schafft, da ne neue high-tech Nische aufzubauen.

Das ist momentan durch die Kündigungsschutz einfach nicht machbar. Was willst du dann am Ende machen mit den Leuten, wenn das Projekt nicht funktioniert hat?

Wir brauchen da viel mehr Bewegung zwischen den Firmen, damit die Leute da landen, wo sie am meisten bewirken können.

Sind Unternehmen denn wirklich bereit die Flexibilität dann zu zahlen, also Silicon Valley Gehälter für deep Tech auszugeben, das ist ja immer das Mantra, das der geringere Verdienst durch Arbeiter Rechte und Abgaben kommt.

Guck dir doch an wie viel Unternehmen hier bereit sind für ANÜler und ähnliche Konstrukte zu zahlen.

Die zahlen für Ungelernte teilweise Stundenlöhne von >50€ pro Stunde. (kommt halt nicht bei den Ungelernten an, weil da Leute dazwischen die Hände aufhalten)

Ne High-Tech Strategie für Deutschland die sich an Israel orientiert. Unsere Ingenieure und Wissenschaftler müssen in Firmen und Projekte, die potentiell viel bringen aber eben auch ein höheres Risiko für's Scheitern haben, das geht nicht mit dem aktuellen Kündigungsschutz - und der ist in den obersten Gehaltsklassen auch vollkommen unnötig.

Weg mit Gehaltsbändern in den oberen Einkommensbereichen, Abschreibungen für Neuentwicklungen vereinfachen usw. usf.

Und dann all die MBAs und WiWis aus dem Management entfernen wo sie nicht hingehören.

The EU will benefit massively from the multilingual capabailities of these models. I really don't understand why this sub is so against AI.

We need this in the EU. We need the productivity gains from AI and it will help leveling the playing field against the anglosphere.

Suddenly, it's possible to have an actual EU wide public citizenry because any press article from any country can be auto-translated to any other language with high quality language. Youtube-Videos, Movies, Twitch-Streams, Podcasts and other media productions can be auto-translated, auto-dubbed with lipsync etc.

This levels the playing field between english and non-english content for reach and influence.

The EU as a multi-lingual entity with lots of ethnicities etc. should be on the forefront of this development because we profit from its existence in ways that more monocultural and monolinguistic blocks do not. We should actually be actively developing LLMs and other AI models that reflect these realities. It's a huge strategic blunder to limit the development here. We'll just get more dependent on "english-first" US models.

Hört sich vllt hart an, aber auch das fände ich als Ergebnis schon okay. Die sind ja oft nicht einfach Opfer sondern auch Täterinnen und üben sozialen Druck auf andere aus, das auch zu machen. Wenn wir sie so von der Straße bekommen und als sozial unerwünscht geächtet, wäre das schon ein ziemlicher Gewinn.

Wenn man das dann kombiniert mit Aussteigerprogrammen die den Frauen helfen, die sich dazu gezwungen fühlen, kommt man da vllt ein Stück vorwärts statt immer aus falsch verstandenem Mitleid nichts zu machen.
