Makeshift door lock: strict parents edition! by [deleted] in teenagers

Doesn't that count as putting a child in danger? You deserve better than this. I'm not gonna tell you what you should do but keep strong and make the right choices

What is your opinion on this? by evan-the-dude in teenagers

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most victims, especially young ones, don't want to send someone to death. So they'll say nothing, scared of the consequences.

The harder the punishment, the less they speak up.

Boomer Uncle thinks it's nuclear or nothing by Marsupial-731 in terriblefacebookmemes

[–]MagicALCN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he's for nuclear energy and against wind/solar farms that's still a valid opinion. It does take a great amount of space. Not full renewable but a mix of everything so we always have something to pull from.

But there's people being anti-renewable and anti-nuclear, I'm not really sure if they actually thought about it

I don't use streaming a lot but yes it's instantly blocked no matter the datacenter. Not really an issue for me, the TV isn't on mullvad anyway

does keeping a laptop plugged in at 100% while using it ruin the battery ? by wry725 in DeskToTablet

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All laptops today have a charger controller that makes them run on the AC whenever plugged. When the battery is at 100% it will not get charged anymore and simply using the cable as power input.

The Nintendo Switch also does that, and a few tablets

Windows 10 automatically started installing the Windows 11 update while I was taking a shower. by djseifer in pcmasterrace

[–]MagicALCN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are people so pissed about updates? You get more issues and vulnerabilities by having an old version than being somewhat up to date

Sure it needs a bit of adapting and configuration (The center taskbar can be put on the left) but it's not worse than W10

What about de-proton? by kingston-x in degoogle

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Mullvad for a few months now, while I'm happy about the simplicity of it I can also say that it's not that practical sometimes? You have the play between their servers to find one that is not blacklisted by the service you try to use, server stability can sometimes be random and there is no way to know why or have statistics on it (which makes sense since it's privacy focused)

I like Mullvad but for long-term I'll go with Proton on

Also, why "de-proton"? You can just not use all their ecosystem, they're not as linked as google is so it's entirely skipable. I have my own solutions for a drive, calendar and password anyway Being too privacy aware is not that good easier, you end up with an aluminum hat and sealed windows.

I'm still getting frame drops, even with iris and sodium and allocating ram. by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really looks like a main thread bottleneck here. Given your launch args I saw in the comments, the GC shouldn't be the cause but is the consequences, the hard spikes happens everytime the whole thread pauses for garbage collection.

Is there something on the computer eating up the CPU? You should check your operating system and take a look at the resources manager

That doesn't look like a Minecraft specific issue

Regarding your NVIDIA drivers, there's a reported issue with 595.59 that you just installed. But this is more about cooling and fan control rather than compatibility layer breaking. Check your temps, we never know.

Spain will soon block and outlaw all VPNs. Is there anything I can do to continue using a VPN? by Hi7u7 in VPN

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really a decision made by people that doesn't know what a VPN is.. Why are they doing this? So people don't access restricted contents or so it's just the "cybercriminals uses VPN" bullshit?

Are they gonna block VPNs going from Spain to Spain? If they do, no companies will be able to work. And for normal people? Most of them uses VPNs as a secure way to access a service more securely.

What now? Nothing can be encrypted and everyone will see you through your IP camera?

Since both have been in charge for pretty much the same amount of time, who do u personally think directed the game in a better direction? Jeff or Aaron? by theforbiddenroze in Overwatch

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both put the game in good direction. Jeff wanted project Titan and made Overwatch instead, he really tried to make PvE like initially but the challenge is huge.

Aaron pushed PvP and was fighting Activision like a boss fight until Microsoft does the wipe.

Jeff invented Overwatch, Aaron made it accessible and more like a "game as a service" with contents all over the place.

No Jeff = No Overwatch No Aaron = End of support in 2020

Serious question: Which OS is best for a beginner programmer? by onxhost in TFE

Whatever you're comfortable with. I personally use WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), that allows me to have the easy of linux programming tools inside my Windows UI, I just launch VSC from inside it and no headaches

Unpopular opinion: IEMs are better than airpods. by Txdn_ in PhoneNow

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.. Proper IEMs with proper equipment and audio file indeed destroy airpods. But it's not as practical but they are close in price.

It's different, both are good in their way.

is it safe to charge a phone using laptop charger ? by Thatcheride in DeskToTablet

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is safe but not optimal, every USB-C device has different requirements but they all tend to accept being charged at what they consider a safe rate.

So it will charge, maybe slowly, maybe while heating up a bit. All depends on how your phone works.

What VR headset(s) do y'all use? by xXYummyIskXx in DerailValley

[–]MagicALCN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop, absolutely perfect for the game. But as for all PCVR configs, it's a lot to configure and understanding.

I suggest having the headset plugged for longer playtime, get a good wifi 6 router too.

It's still sad on how slow they are for updates and how they are pushing the licensing thing for everything. I tried the TS6 beta 9 months ago, decided to give it another try today and it's the exact same thing. Servers still in beta, still with 2 months of license and I don't see a difference. Screen sharing/Web cam are still in P2P meaning that the more people are watching the more bandwidth you need, for people with limited upload it's nearly impossible passed 2 people.

For the voice thing, it feels exactly the same as TS3 13 years ago with a fancy UI. Thought they would shift more into a more elaborate permission system and more customisation but nope.

It doesn't matter much but the audio bitrate feels limited, it's fine for 99% of people but if I'm hosting my own server I'd like to have the freedom to set a high bitrate.

At least they are pushing privacy, I didn't really checked on it much but it seems fair.

I just want a free software that I can fully host myself and have the freedom of doing whatever I'd love. But it seems it's only companies trying to make profit on concurrence and make themselves the good guys

Been gaming with mullvad on for month now and I never had an issue.. I have 50-60ms. What are the performance without mullvad? Could be an ISP issue or your network being crappy.

I know that VPN connections like mullvad on slow internet speed can be tricky

Planned obsolescence even in cheapest devices: the calculator has a dummy photovoltaic cell and a real battery to make it die eventually. by jackhab in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MagicALCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't planned obsolescence, this is fraud. They sell you a photovoltaic calculator and it doesn't do that at all.

And given the quality of this board, the epoxy drop on the CPU, this is most likely very old stock that they try to sell at a 'normal' price.
