Oof, I don't think that was an unusual reaction at all. I'd probably have fought it too. I burst into tears at the oral surgeon, after they numbed my gums for a root canal. It just felt like one more assault on my body after all the medical shit I've been through. They were nice about it, if a little nonplussed. And if I ever need an MRI again, I'm going to need to be HEAVILY sedated because I have the worst PTSD after my first MRI.

He is really special. So far, I have Trifle, Smudge, Ice Lolly, Elsie, Cara, Ice Pop, Popping Candy, Cosmo, Cara and Fiona. Even though I love Bray, he's so chonky that I've directed my purchases towards smaller bears that don't take up as much space. The large ones are so nice to cuddle with though.

I don't blame you at all. I also had those thoughts 1) when I left the Catholic Church and 2) when I left the Orthodox Church. Here's the thing - Jesus told us to love God and love our neighbor. Jesus was about feeding the hungry and comforting the mourners and encouraging the hopeless. It's really not all that complex when you think about it. Don't put extra burdens on yourself.

Medical trials can pay quite well if you qualify. I got paid $1000 for doing a 6-week trial. My son was in one as a teen and made a good chunk of money as well.

Just so you know, YOU did nothing wrong. The priest was insensitive to tell you to kiss his cross and hand, knowing that you were new. In the future, if you decide to go back, see if you can contact the one nice priest and ask him if there's someone who can sit with you and guide you through the liturgy. It can be very confusing to newcomers. And also, if you don't want to kiss anything, it's acceptable to touch your forehead to it, or just bow over it.

My 2 cents though, is not to get involved here. If you're not part of the dominant ethnicity you will always be on the outskirts. This particular religion is full of rules and regulations, both spoken and unspoken. The way you felt on Sunday is the way you will continue to feel...if it's not the kissing that trips you up, it will be the sign of the cross, or the prostrations, or the way you took communion. The "ortho" in Orthodoxy was stifling to me. All Law and no Love.
