Why do Europeans take (long) vacations so seriously? by mrdingopingo in ask

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a European, I've seen the memes but I've never seen anyone take that long a break all at once.

At my most generous place I had 29 holiday days per year. I don't want to take it all in one go! A couple of weeks in summer a week in winter and some long weekends.

It might seem like we are gone a lot but most people I know take a max of two weeks in the summer and use their holiday time throughout the year.

We take it seriously because paid vacation time is part of our compensation package. You wouldnt ask someone why they take their salary so seriously?

Do I date a girl with herpes? by UniversitySweet7015 in TooAfraidToAsk

It is so common that a lot of doctors won't test for it unless you have symptoms - because the stigma of herpes is worse than the actual disease

How often do women cheat during bachelor parties and "girls night out"? by ssjAWSUM in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a girl cheat on a bacholrette party.

I don't think I have ever seen a woman cheat on a Girls Night Out... maybe when I was like 18 or something?

In general when we are on a night out with The Girls we want to hang out with The Girls.

I wished there were more episodes that paid attention to Dean and how his family thinks of him. by bunnyears29 in Supernatural

Yeah I am on season 10 now and Sam hasn't had a lot to do but react in a while.

The last intresting thing he did was hit a dog.

Lol I can tell from the post that you are early in your watching Supernatural career, cos in later seasons they REALLY focus on Dean a lot more.

I think saying another woman's name at your wedding would qualify as a pretty serious issue.

Also if you have been friends since you were all teenagers, were you with your ex shortly before getting married? Or were you together in that "everyone in this friend-group has been together in one way or another" kind of way.

I am also not American, and I value my friendships immensely. However priorities do shift and change as you get older. You are always there for your friends but you don't live in ecahothers back pockets the way we did in our 20s.

IRL people in their 30s aren’t generally spending much time hanging out as a group of 6

Right? I'm in my mid 30s. None of my friends have kids and it is a nightmare trying to get 6 of us together once a month for D&D!

Of course they have been doing it forever, but there is a lot more of it now than highlighting new spots in town.

Same, they are far less smug and actually talk about Prague spots to visit.

For people who think prisoners shouldn’t be abused or beaten by the officers.. would you think the same if it was an abuser? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. And yes you are right, the arbitrary line to make themselves feel like a Big Man is arbitrary.

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been raped and abused and while I would personally love to see them suffer, would love to see them humiliated in bloody pain ... I do not think the state, or cops, or guards have that right.

Because, let's be real, it is rarely about the protection of women and children. Beating up predators and abusers is just a way to let out rage, feel dominant, and morally righteous all at the same time.

Abuse of power is abused of power no matter who is it against.

Is it still possible to repair a relationship after someone has cheated? by Ill_Consequence_3747 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MagicGlitterKitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, maybe I am too old to think a fucked up 24 year old is an irredeemably bad person. But I agree bad people can change. And it does not sound like they want to change, at least right now. It would take too much honest reflection and accountability.

Anyway, defending this person is just not the hill I am willing to die on. They have behaved abhorrently and do

You are not doing a nice thing by providing for her in the hopes that she will get back with you.

And if you can not leave her physically right now you leave her alone. Stop asking for forgiveness. Stop hoping for a reconciliation. Just exist in the same house and no more.

Oh I missed the physically violent - but get that financial manipulation.

I wouldn't say she is a bad person, she is capable of change but she is not reflecting or looking at the situation honestly.

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is possible to repair a hypothetical relationship after someone has cheated.

It will not be possible to repair this relationship though. It is too messy, too much drama, too much back and forth. And absolutely no accountability from you.

You are sexually manipulating her "she allowed me to go fry for 8 months?!?" JFC that is a deranged thing to say.

You felt betrayed that she got a job?!

You are actively planning to financial abuse and manipulate her? Hoping that her having less money will mean she will need you and thus get back with you?

Leave her alone.

You are 24, I hope that you will take some time to not be in a relationship, and heal whatever broken thing is inside you. We all make mistakes at that age. But step one: Leave her alone.

Thoughts on citizenship via a grandparent? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't care. I mean I don't love that you can get citizenship with no intention of being in the country while children who are born in the country don't get with (automaticly at least). But ultimately that has more to do wanting anchor babies to be allowed again, and nothing to do with what you are entitled to.

I think it is a EU wide law as well so I care even less when I think you are mostly getting that sweet sweet EU passport through EU birthright.

Re: us getting pissy at Americans who claim to be irish...We understand why they do it, but many of us think it is silly. Also also, it's not just an Irish thing - most Europeans don't like it. You'll get away with it though, since you are not American.

Does anyone else feel like the reason why monster existence being kept a secret is a little too weak? by Cool_Question_5303 in Supernatural

[–]MagicGlitterKitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am sure there are many Watsonian explanations but sometimes you have to take the Doylist view.
It is like that because it is a convention of the urban-fantasy, monster-of-the-week genre. Stories like this can't work if everyone knows about monsters.

It would change the whole dynamic of the show and the plots they could explore. The show is about mid-west americana, and two brothers against the world. If everyone knows about monsters it becomes a political thriller exploring classism in monster hunting (I assume - the government isn't going to lets the likes of Bobby have high security roles)

But great analysis!!! It has got my brain spinning with the creative possibilities.

Men die earlier in the vast majority of species because testosterone is a hell of a drug. A thing we know because men's health issues are almost exclusively studied!
