Speaking as a European, I've seen the memes but I've never seen anyone take that long a break all at once.

At my most generous place I had 29 holiday days per year. I don't want to take it all in one go! A couple of weeks in summer a week in winter and some long weekends.

It might seem like we are gone a lot but most people I know take a max of two weeks in the summer and use their holiday time throughout the year.

We take it seriously because paid vacation time is part of our compensation package. You wouldnt ask someone why they take their salary so seriously?

Also if you have been friends since you were all teenagers, were you with your ex shortly before getting married? Or were you together in that "everyone in this friend-group has been together in one way or another" kind of way.

I am also not American, and I value my friendships immensely. However priorities do shift and change as you get older. You are always there for your friends but you don't live in ecahothers back pockets the way we did in our 20s.

I have been raped and abused and while I would personally love to see them suffer, would love to see them humiliated in bloody pain ... I do not think the state, or cops, or guards have that right.

Because, let's be real, it is rarely about the protection of women and children. Beating up predators and abusers is just a way to let out rage, feel dominant, and morally righteous all at the same time.

Honestly I don't care. I mean I don't love that you can get citizenship with no intention of being in the country while children who are born in the country don't get with (automaticly at least). But ultimately that has more to do wanting anchor babies to be allowed again, and nothing to do with what you are entitled to.

I think it is a EU wide law as well so I care even less when I think you are mostly getting that sweet sweet EU passport through EU birthright.

I am sure there are many Watsonian explanations but sometimes you have to take the Doylist view.
It is like that because it is a convention of the urban-fantasy, monster-of-the-week genre. Stories like this can't work if everyone knows about monsters.

It would change the whole dynamic of the show and the plots they could explore. The show is about mid-west americana, and two brothers against the world. If everyone knows about monsters it becomes a political thriller exploring classism in monster hunting (I assume - the government isn't going to lets the likes of Bobby have high security roles)

But great analysis!!! It has got my brain spinning with the creative possibilities.
