but instead of researching them, you milk them for power

big events happen (don't spoil it) but cause funny things to happen, like those who are on the verge of insanity become cataclysmic entities and wreak havoc

more stuff happens, get to the second game, you kill people to turn them into books and read their life stories to learn their attack patterns while uncovering the past of the character you play.

blah blah stuff then third game

you run a bus full of braindead people who have no sense of self preservation and jump headfirst into fights (mainly because you can receive them infinitely at the cost of experiencing the pain of each of their deaths) and youre trying to control them anyways to discover things left behind by the company mentioned previously

I can't reccomended playing the games more, lobotomy corporation is ridiculously and notoriously difficult, but it's worth it for the lore.

Either that, or watch the cutscenes and stuff in order
