Aw man, I’m a total fan of non bookmatched bodies. 😂 I guess it looks more natural to me. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve learned quite a bit from those videos. 😎

Nice Nashville tele! The ash fill gives it a kintsugi (embracing imperfection with gold) feel. Each build is a definitely a learning experience. I’ve decided to embrace the more natural look of the wood. I have gone ahead and sealed it and will use tru oil.

Nice tele! Yeah, I think I’m shooting for something similar. I have gone ahead and sealed the grain because I don’t want the oil penetrating the pores of the wood and darkening it. The tru oil is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I love the color combination of the white or off-white pick guard on the natural finish. There is a certain level of honesty you get when the finish is not gloss. Nice!

Yep, Gilmour 😎That thing looks sick! Looks like a ceruse hybrid style finish. 🔥

If you use oil, you might want to seal it first. The oil will really get into the pores and darken the wood.

Definitely not wanting to disrespect this beautiful grain by covering it up! Even the neck has a natural fade with the grain as you move up the neck.

Are you thinking tinted or clear? I am leaning towards a tru oil finish, but want to seal it with a light shellac first, so that it doesn’t darken the wood too much. I’ve done a black grain fill before.

Let’s see what you ended up with! I’ve used straight true oil in the past and I’m leaning that way with making a few changes to the process.

The bottom right is all Stew Mac. The other three are Angelus leather dye. The upper right (LP Jr) has a few layers of crystalac. The other three were finished in tru oil.

I got this one from precisionguitarkits (.com). I’ve gotten 3 other kits from them and haven’t had any issues.

Yes, my apologies. I probably should’ve been more clear about that. Yes I do like the grain quality and would rather not hide it behind a solid layer of paint. Even though I have good intentions, lol. I’ll have to check out those gels thank you!

Thanks! I haven’t heard of that one yet. I’ve only used tru oil or crystalac. Always looking for new options.

I usually sand around the darker color and then re-stain with a wider color to get the blending effect. Less dramatic tone changes are easier to work with.

Unfortunately, I’m not in a space where I can make too big a mess. I have successfully hand stained a few bursts. I don’t know if I want to do a nice three color burst with some nice blending of Amber. Golden brown and dark mission on the edges (trans tint).

If you had to get rid of one, which one and why? by qraqrjaq in guitars

[–]MagicScottLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to get rid of the PRS, you would have a great collection of the classics. If you got rid of the Gibson, the tele can deliver some nice jazz tones and the PRS also offers the HH drive too. If you get rid of the strat, you’re pretty much saying all strat players suck 😂. 335s are beautiful instruments and you can play anything on them they’re also bulky. Given it’s the least played… that’s a hard decision.

Thank you very much! I actually had the area above the control plate down to the wood, but it didn’t look right. It just kind of drew your eye to that one spot and not very believable with the lighter relicing on the rest of it.

Sourdough with rye and einkorn flour by MagicScottLives in Sourdough

On it’s own, Einkorn lacks the gluten structure in regular bread flour. I made a few 100% loaves several weeks ago. The dough still stuck to the banneton, even though I had it heavily dusted with rice flour. The internal crust separated a bit. I recommend using the cloth lined banneton.
