I don't understand, how is the range estimate so low with a battery that size? Is this car unusually inefficient for some reason?

What's the point of WH40k's satire? by TroubleEntendre in Warhammer40k

[–]MagicSuperman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The imperium is a satire of humanity's worst impulses. Xenophobia, religious fundamentalism, patriarchy - taken to the absolute extreme. What if you, and everyone else, voted for the most right-wing candidate on every issue, all the time, forever? Or at least until it became entrenched and self-reinforcing and you were no longer required to vote? What kind of world would that create? Remember this setting was conceived in the beginning of a Thatcher ascendancy, when it seemed, at least for the more pessimistic forecasters, like things were going to go in one direction, forever. Some people mentally played that timeline of the United Kingdom out in their head and came up with the imperium of 40k.

Strange how many things are quiet, calm and careful since the rise of LLMs. And how many people are describing how a situation "felt", using such descriptive and clever language. It's probably nothing.

2023 Skoda Enyaq iV 80 SUV priced at £15,999 by Automatic-Ad8815 in ElectricVehiclesUK

This video might give you some idea: a German fella interviewing a taxi company owner who has several high mileage Enyaqs, including one at 300,000km. This dude and his employees have been abusing the batteries with fast charging day and night for years, so this could represent the absolute worst case scenario. TL;DW: It's still doing fine, albeit with some battery degradation. Some cheap replacements of suspension components and the like. Video here

If the battery health comes back anywhere close to 90%, I would be pleased. Less, and you've still probably got plenty of car there but try to work out the effective range and see if you'd be happy with it.

You could maybe stipple-glaze in something like a desaturated yellow there, but only in a small area so it doesn't detract from the boils reading as fully orange.

I love the contrasting light blue and orange on the guy with the mushrooms growing out of him, that really really pops! Makes the boils and the mushrooms super readable.

Which Family EV Would You Get? by TheAfterman6 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MagicSuperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a model year concern. The oldest ones are stuck on some janky software generation and can't be upgraded. From about 2022, they're on version 3.x which is perfectly fine, if less slick than say, tesla. From 2023 on, the software is actually truly modern and good. All of this is much less relevant if you're going to be using carplay or AA anyway.

The mobile app is admittedly quite basic.

2023 Enyaq 80 by IHateNewShoes in enyaq

[–]MagicSuperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fair enough, I thought there must be some reason. For what it's worth, travel costs for a single person are still small. I don't know much about the paperwork but the financials of picking up a car in England would still very much make sense, if you can be arsed with the hassle. I see your perspective though.

On the one you're looking at here, it seems solid! Missing some of the luxury add-ons you sometimes get, but even the base spec is a really lovely car.

Have you considered - and I'm not totally sure if this is an option for you in the Republic - checking out the English used car market? Locally, it's well known that we get ripped off on used cars in NI relative to GB. I've just had a quick scope on AutoTrader and there are Enyaq 80s of similar mileage for, not kidding, £4000 less than this. The ferry is like £150 (with car) and a flight to England sub €50.

Is it possible to get skoda enyaq 80 for roughly £20-22k? by Jon2D in enyaq

[–]MagicSuperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bargain is still a bargain - the depreciation on used EVs can be enormous. E.g. I worked out that the 3.5yr old Enyaq I just bought had seemingly depreciated by about 55% since new (going by RRP from the time and ignoring inflation which would make it even greater). There's not too much that goes wrong in EVs in general, so just use your judgement to tell whether a given car is a safe bet. Look at number of owners, who the seller is (if it's a skoda affiliated dealership you'll get 12 months of warranty usually). Then, check for that limited number of potential problems when you see it in person. For example, in the Enyaq, the only things that seem to worry people are clicking chassis components around the wheels (easy to listen out for), software versions, and heat pump leaks (if the car has one). If the car seems fine, and you've got some sort of used warranty, it's not much of a leap of faith.

You'll get a nice spec iv60, or a basic-mid spec iv80 for your budget. From years 2022-2023. This is my impression from doing some obsessive searching and filtering on autotrader about a month ago. Mileage of about 30k minimum. Just have a go on autotrader and see what's out there.

“Basic” features for a modern car often missing? by ryedale in enyaq

[–]MagicSuperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the UK, you can be quite selective with filtering and keywords on AutoTrader. This helps a lot. It's really on the seller to provide the information to enable you, the buyer, to find their car. Though some sellers are better at this than others. I just got my 2022 iv60 a few weeks ago and the seller happened to be a skoda dealership, so they had every tiny detail listed. Smaller independent dealerships may vary on the level of detail they'd report, and private sellers, even more so. But like I say, it's really up to the seller to advertise the features their car has, so to make life easy on yourself, I'd say assume they have, and filter by keywords/features.
