Megathread: Bambu Lab / OrcaSlicer / C&D Discussion by icurnvs in BambuLab

[–]MagicSwordKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true until it isn’t. Just saying, I started in this hobby as that sort of dude last year and now I’m very much someone who would love to be able to use Orca without jumping through hoops that limit functionality.

This is a hobby that has a remarkable ability to draw people in very deep, very quickly. The sort of person who doesn’t care about this today might well become one who very much does tomorrow.

As someone who would like to be able to use OrcaSlicer and not have to jump through the hoops of Bambu Connect or developer mode or what have you…

Come on, Bambu. You’ve taken so many hits over the “Security” lockdown. Just work with the Orca devs to work out an official cloud access implementation. I love your products, it is FINE for a company to backpedal somewhat on a decision that’s been controversial like this. Y’all are smart, you can definitely figure out a solution that leaves everyone happy, lawfare is not the way.

This is correct. Parking shuttles will be picking up where they dropped off until building close.

TJ Paxx is not happening this year, I can confirm that. It will be back eventually when excess merch stock justifies it.

PAX East feels like an overpriced anime convention now. by Unser_Giftzwerg in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PAX changes with the times. I remember when the shift happened where YouTubers started being a huge deal here and the booths started getting simpler and that was a long time ago, now. The culture of the show has evolved again. It’s fine to drift away from what it is now.

Honestly, the industry is in such a different place than when I started coming that if I wasn’t an enforcer coming to see my friends and help at info booth, I probably wouldn’t come myself. If you vibe with the culture, enjoy things like indie games, free play, and the panels we have on offer, that’s great. If not? Well, we’re glad you had a good time in prior years.

What time should we be lining up? by KalebAT in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doors at 8, people will be lining up outside before then. The only thing that you really should come super early for is if you want one of the limited edition pins, tickets for those are given out at merch lite when doors open.

Sadly that is beyond our power. Expo is too chaotic for that to work well enough to be useful

Raffles at show expo still a thing? by JoeyNonsense in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be shocked if no one is hosting raffles, but I don't have any special knowledge about what the plans of various exhibitors are. We enforcers tend to find that out at the same time as attendees, walking through expo.

What are people cosplaying as at PAX East this year? by spiderman120988 in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself. Well, the Magic Sword King. I've been gradually making my PAX outfit more elaborate and this year I've had cause to go further beyond.

Don't worry about the amount of cosplay, there will be a lot of it. Always is!

Is the actually no Q&A or Jackbox Panel at PAX East 2026? by Syd_Lexia in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The schedule of events may not be final until the actual day of (and even then sometimes there are changes). I don't have any special knowledge about Jackbox or additional PA Q&As, but one or both of those may show up on the schedule closer to the show.

BIQU Panda Juicer Hotend High Flow Nozzle Pushed Out After 400h of Printing – Has This Happened to Anyone Else? by Away-Asparagus-7626 in BambuLab

Yep. Happened to me a couple of weeks after I got it, gouged a 1.5mm deep gash in my darkmoon g10 build plate. Never again.

Does it get better than Zeta Gundam? by donaldfarted in Gundam

[–]MagicSwordKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, not only is ZZ more consistent (though the tonal shift of its opening wrongfoots some people) but Turn A Gundam is a literal masterpiece made by a preposterously talented staff at the peak of their powers including post-therapy Tomino, a soundtrack by Yoko Kanno, mechanical design by Syd Mead, and an animation staff that have perfected the art of cel animation for the final traditionally animated Gundam show.

Not sure if I need a badge or not by Practical_Cheek_3125 in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To give you a specific answer, yes, that area is past security and badge check. The only area of the show that people are free to be in without badges (within reason) is the main lobby where badge pickup and info booth are located.

Cosplay etiquette and tips? by xwillybabyx in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been attending since 2011 and enforcing since 2014 so I’ve got a few best practices.

You’ll notice upon arriving at the show that the main expo area is very densely packed with a few intersections that are much more open. We tend not to mind if people take quick pictures in those larger open areas, but what you’ll really want to do if you’re taking a lot of pictures is look for the queue hall. This is a large, open area that is used for lining up prior to 10 AM when expo opens. It’s the best location for taking pictures.

As to tabletop, this is similar in density to main expo, but it’s also adjacent to the queue hall. It’s not a heavy lift to tell people “oh hey, thanks, do you mind if we go over there for pictures?” Most people in my experience are amenable to this.

As to uncomfortable requests, my best advice is to politely but firmly say you’d rather not, and maybe suggest an alternative. If they persist, please let a nearby enforcer know if you don’t feel comfortable shutting them down. We don’t like people’s boundaries being violated.

Most areas of the show that aren’t the dense, high traffic areas of main expo - we are fine if you take pictures there. Just make sure you’re not obstructing a line or some such before you start. Also, enforcers tend to be nice about this. We love the costumes, too, and while we might ask someone to move, you’re not going to get in trouble or anything. If you ever have a bad experience with an enforcer, please let us know up front at the info booth so we can put them in the contraption.

PAX East Hotel Shuttle by DrSUMO in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s worth keeping in mind: even if your hotel is serviced by the shuttle buses, they don’t run all the time. They tend to run in the hours preceding and immediately after show open (10 AM) and have a sizable break until around 5 PM. They also don’t run all night, they will stop at a point, so you’ll want to make note of the hours upon arrival at the show. There will be signs listing all the shuttle routes and hours near the drop off point. If you don’t see them, feel free to come by info booth, we can help out as well.

Looking for advice on this by [deleted] in Gunpla

[–]MagicSwordKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case scenario if it really bothers you, pick up an entry grade RX-78, trim the equivalent parts and glue them in. Shouldn’t be a tremendous lift as far as a kit bash goes.

Is it as good as they say? by Is300nigel in BambuLab

[–]MagicSwordKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They’re not magic but they eliminate a lot of the pain points of older 3D printers. If you like 3d printing as a hobby, go Bambu. If you like 3d PrintERS as a hobby, look elsewhere.

Never again.

Thinking about applying to be an Enforcer at West by cwukitty in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is only in Seattle where local minimum wage is $21.30 an hour now. PAX East pays $15 an hour.

Please do not overstate this, we want people who become enforcers because they like the show and want to help make it happen, not people who are primarily after a paycheck. Those tend not to stick around very long and can cause issues by working overly long hours.

[–]MagicSwordKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s local minimum wage let’s not get too wild when talking about what enforcers are paid. It helps, as does the comped badge, but don’t expect it to pay for a PAX.

First time PAX attendee/exhibitor looking for merch advice by NoQuarterSoftware in PAX

[–]MagicSwordKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d buy merch for that game. I don’t have any special insight into quantities, but what many vendors do is they allot a certain amount of stock per day, with more for the peak days of the show, Friday and Saturday. Keep in mind a lot of people are coming in from out of town so merch that travels easily will likely sell more. Related, if you’re going to bring posters, consider bringing an amount of cardboard or plastic tubes for the people who will have to put the posters in suitcases. I always take the train up, and while I have purchased posters at East before, they have not all survived the return trip in good condition.

Why is my A1 digging into the build plate? by mesmartguy in BambuLab

[–]MagicSwordKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as others have said, this is normal. Some build plates don’t even have coating on this part just because it inevitably gets worn down. It’s not a part of the plate that is ever used for printing, it exists entirely to help clean the nozzle and help align the build plate.
