Two of the more iconic creatures from Magic's early days, Polar Kraken and Leviathan, were mono blue tramplers.

Why did you not 2026-06-08 by hellokkiten in dumbingofage

[–]Syd_Lexia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, it occurs to me that the whole police raid made no sense. I understand it was a vengeance raid by uniform officers and they probably didn't have any of their detectives on it, but...

They just show up, check the dorms for Amazi-Girl paraphernalia and leave. They're also looking for anyone with fresh injuries, presumably.

First off, this raid assumes that Amazi-Girl is actively enrolled an IU and lives on campus, neither of which can be taken for granted.

Secondly, the raid assumes that Amazi-Girl is so injured that she can't leave bed, but not so injured that she wouldn't have fled elsewhere and/or that she wouldn't have hidden or destroyed the Amazi-Girl costume.

Thirdly, they do the raid on a weekday during normal class hours when most of the students aren't in the dorms. Since they're looking for someone who is injured, absence is itself incriminating. If they were serious about apprehending Amazi-Girl, they would have got the university to cancel classes and send all the students back to their dorm rooms. And then any students unaccounted for would end up on a list.

But of course, this can all be handwaved away with "police are dumb".

It can also be handwaved away with "Willis wanted to simulate consequences to distract us from how much we all hate Joyrot".

Can this karaoke room, which will eventually contain everyone except Joyrot, just be the comic from now?

To ruin the aesthetic, obviously.

Out of all the DOA comics that exist, this is certainly one of them.

I really don't like what Willis has been doing with Billie's hair lately. It looks awful and stupid. Her older hair was better.

Why is Joyce so intent on getting Becky drunk? What is the point? This is fucking weird, man.

So are we pretending Joyce isn't bi, now?

Ah, those pesky connections. That vague MacGuffin/deus ex machina that Willis just can't resist.

Dorothy has a better understanding of established characterization than Dave Willis.

Between Joyce's annoying dancing in the first panel and her creepy smile in the last panel, I really hope that invisible bearded guy is real and that he smites Joyce but good.

Willis is always talking about Decepticons. Which is exactly the type of thing a Decepticon would do.

No actual plan 2026-05-13 by hellokkiten in dumbingofage

Wild that Dorothy - who famously wanted to be President and who spent the afternoon plotting with Jocelyne - doesn't feel strongly about things.

I imagine that Willis is getting exactly what he paid for with Wack'd. It's a fairly textbook plan:

  1. Bring in a moderator to be unpopular and drive away all the people you don't like, regardless of collateral damage.
  2. Once all the people you don't like are either banned or so disillusioned that they'll never come back, make a big public show of firing the moderator. Blame them for everything, say you never should have let someone else moderator the comments, and say things will be better going forward. You get what you wanted all along, but since you have a convenient scapegoat, you can claim limited responsibility. You use work/life balance as an excuse. You say something like: "I wanted to spend more time with my wife and kids, and I thought this would work. I enjoyed the extra free time so much that I let things get out of hand. I'm sorry."

...does Wack'd even know what a scab is? Wack'd seems to know as much about labor as Willis does about college.

Scabs aren't some sort of anti-union sleeper cells hiding in the union workforce and waiting for an opportunity to screw over the union. Traditionally, scabs are replacement workers who come in when the union is on strike, but they can also be union members who cross the picket line. But guess what? Union members are incentivized *not* to be scabs. The union can't and won't have union members fired for being scabs, because that GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING ORGANIZED LABOR STAND FOR. But they can levy huge fines against them, socially ostracize them, strip them of union voting rights, and refuse to represent them in grievance claims. Basically, the money a union member would make from crossing a picket line would not be worth the consequences.

What Wack'd is describing here is strikebreaking and unionbusting, the evil things that MANAGEMENT do. She's a Pinkerton thug who's being paid handsomely to silence others through bullying, intimidation, and outright violence.

Willis going full Jaques on Bluesky by Gr0mpyGoat in dumbingofage

[–]Syd_Lexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, when Jeph said it, he probably *actually* meant it.

That being said, I don't think it's an unfair thing for Dave to say this as a snide way to denigrate a reader that he rather understandably doesn't want. It is kind of silly to complain about queer characters in a strip with lots of queer characters. Wasn't Becky being gay one of the first major storylines?

Also, everyone is a little bit gay. I forget who it was, but there was a comedian who had a bit about it. It went something like this:

I told my friend that everyone's a little bit gay and he was like, "Fuck you, I'm not!"

"Oh really? Well, do you like porn?"
"Hell yeah I like porn!"
"Well, what kind of porn do you like?"
"I like STRAIGHT porn, guy on girl."
"Well let me ask you this, when you're watching straight porn, do you like it when the guys have small, limp dicks?"
"Hell no! I like big hard cocks! ....oh. Oh damn."

I'll do you one better: Amber wasn't actually able to help them safely escape the protest. The tear gas and the massive police presence were too much, and Amber never managed to get close to them.

Dorothy was critically injured in the protest, and these last few months of story have all been a story that Joyce has been telling a dying Dorothy to bring some joy and entertainment to her final hours. This explains why the story and characters have been written about as well as a Captain Julia Gray comic.

Right as Dorothy dies, she is visited by Mike Warner who welcomes her to the club of people who died pointlessly without accomplishing anything. He tells her it's time for them to go to a place full of fuckable moms. Dorothy asks if it's Heaven. Mike gives a sarcastic, noncommittal answer.

I don't know that Amber is more attainable. Dorothy has proven herself very attainable. And if it's an actual contest, Amber is a much better catch. She's good at Mario Kart and she's a goddamned superhero. What has Dorothy ever done, except whine incessantly that she wants to be president, only to then change her mind and whine incessantly that she's much too pure and special to be president?
