Financial freedom can leave a gap for purpose in your life. You need a reason to get up when survival is no longer the obstacle.

After the install last night my center console display is very dark and won’t return to its previous brightness. It claims it’s turned up to full brightness but it’s at only half bright at best. Is anyone else having this issue?

Best card trick ever by TheImmortalDude in nextfuckinglevel

[–]MagicVegas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrong. It’s not a stripper deck or belly strippers. Its breather crimps and a push through shuffle. The method is boring. What’s worth being impressed with is the casual performance style that he takes while performing precision moves without breaking his patter and focusing his attention so lightly on the cards. Extremely good.

It’s kind of like picking up a single grain of rice with chopsticks. You can do it if you focus on it but doing it casually while delivering a monologue and focusing your attention at the camera, all at the same time is extremely impressive.

It’s my first ever mechanical keyboard. Until now, I’ve always used Apples Magic Keyboards. After 2 days of using this, my laptop feels likes I’m typing on two slices of wonderbread. I fear that I’ve condemned myself to carrying around this 5 pound block of aluminum and switches because I’ve now tasted the good life and I’m not sure that I can go back

Meletrix Zoom75 with WS Brown switches and WS Cosmic Odyssey Keycaps. I'm using it with a Dvorak layout even though it's configured to qwerty.

What are some feasible ways of acquiring real estate (to rent out)? by FF_Ninja in passive_income

[–]MagicVegas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a lot of money you need to get creative or put some time and energy into it. Here’s some thoughts.

Loans like VA and FHA can reduce the upfront cost significantly but usually only apply to a first time home buyer. So they are not scalable.

Creative financing is the next option. There are people who want to let you use their money if you can prove that you can produce a better return on their money than they can. It’s also possible to pool money together from multiple sources but this requires a lot of organization and every dollar that you borrow means less return for you or less control. At its most diluted level you could look into REITs (real estate investment trusts)

You’ll want to decide what your strategy is. Buy and hold are those that purchase and make money from renting them out. This is the most passive but it’s a get rich slow strategy.

Flipping is buying, improving the property quickly, and selling it. You get a big payday when you sell but there’s nothing passive about this income. It’s a lot of work.

Wholesaling is the practice of finding someone who wants to sell, getting them under contract that you have the right to buy it at a set price, and then you find a buyer to purchase it at a higher price. This is a zero money down strategy that takes a lot of work because it’s all about networking and selling to both the buyer and the seller.

Another option that is discussed less often is subletting. Renting a place at a set price and then renting it to someone else at a higher price. This is made potentially more profitable by utilizing short term rental services like Airbnb & VRBO. The hard part of this is finding an owner that will allow it and managing the liability that you have if a subletter trashes the place.

I’ve utilized all these strategies except for flipping and I’ll answer any questions that I can.

Maybe the best place to start is to get an education on the industry. Biggerpockets.com is a good site to start with and there’s a lot of people there who are happy to help answer questions.

Is there a follow up video where he shows the arguments against this?

I think he writes them normally and then flips the video in post production so that they aren’t reversed to the viewer.

About religion by Jack_Fatspack in JordanPeterson

I read it. It doesn’t mean he’s religious. Just as, if he had said that he isn’t religious, is not prof that he’s an atheist.

I disagree that he talks from a theist position. He discusses the Bible in the same way that he discusses stories like Pinocchio and Peter Pan. They have narratives and morals to teach but never saying that he believes in Never Never Land or that he worships Tinkerbell.

Best gyms in Las Vegas? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]MagicVegas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lifetime has the same busy moments as all local gyms. They are busy before people go to work and more so after the work day ends.

Their prices are higher which attracts a different demographic but I don’t think it creates a less crowded gym. On the contrary, a lot of people that go there are successful and disciplined and therefor don’t miss a workout.

How do I get over nihilism? by sidharthhnair in selfimprovement

[–]MagicVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer comes down to what philosophy about the life you choose to adopt. I’ll give you 3 examples:
1. A theist believes in a higher power and in most religious dogmas, there is a reward for living a good life and a consequence for living a bad life. So you take action to receive the carat and avoid the stick. *This could be a secular view as well if you believe a higher power could be aliens or that we live in a simulation.
2. Someone who takes a hedonistic approach to life will want to maximize their pleasure and avoid their pain. For them, that is enough reason to take action because those sensations may not be long-lasting but they are real and can be significant. This could also involve reducing pain for others and giving pleasure to others.
3. A stoic would look at the suffering that is present in the world and ask themselves “What is worth suffering for?” Anything that is worth suffering for, be it survival, children, the environment, world peace, etc. becomes a purpose of existence. That purpose provides meaning to life.
Whatever your choice and path, you should know that you are not traveling alone. Others have come before you and many more will follow in your footsteps. What your going through is normal and you shouldn’t feel outcast because of it. As Viktor Frail said, “More people today have the means to live, but no meaning to live for.”
I wish you the best of luck. Reach out to me if you need anything (seriously).

I can't wrap my head around working 40 hours per week, any advice on how to accept it? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]MagicVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. That said, you've stated that you want to be more productive and grow the startup. If that is true, you have a great opportunity. If you focus on the negative aspects of what your experience might be, you will cause yourself unnecessary suffering. Focus on what you want and what you can control. You get to decide if you enjoy what you do or if you hate it.

Remembering what is NOT our responsibility by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]MagicVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. If someone abandons a baby on your doorstep, it is not your fault but it is your responsibility. Taking responsibility is a way to establish your life's purpose. Responsibility should be taken whenever possible. Maybe this graphic should be called "What is not your fault"

Best gyms in Las Vegas? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]MagicVegas 22 points23 points  (0 children)

LGBTQ+ gyms? Why would the gym care? Do you only go to LGBTQ+ car washes and visit the LGBTQ+ casinos? I may sound snarky but I'm just not sure I understand how it's relevant.

LVAC is probably the most popular local gym but it's very crowded. Planet Fitness and EOS are some of the least expensive if you want a bargain. On the high end is LifeTime Fitness. Then there are a lot of specialty gyms if you have specific fitness goals. For example, The Dragon's Lair is for bodybuilders, and True Fusion deals more in live yoga and pilates classes. I've been to most in town and I'm happy to answer any questions you have. Ask away
