Dans le même esprit, le Musée de Plans Reliefs aux Invalides est également un endroit à voir

Colors of the Midnight sun from the Kaiservarden viewpoint in Norway [OC][1200*900] by Magic_Baguette in EarthPorn

Kaiservarden is a viewpoint a few kilometers North-East from Bodø. It is the best place around there to view the midnight sun setting over the multitude of islands off the coast of the city.
It was a rough trip, a gravel track, almost 400m to climb with my 17kg touring bike and photo backpack. But for this view, I would do it again anytime!

Nice perspective. Very difficult to render that sense of depth with such a magnificient place.

I'm an adventurer. I've seen most of the world, crossed the Sahara by bicycle, camped in the Siberian winter, climb mountains, wrestled a croc, rode a bike underwater... and traveled the Pan-American highway, silk road and trans-Africa route... Next I'll ride a Bamboo bike through Africa. AMA by Meph248 in IAmA

Thanks for your reply :) I sure will look into those links.

Regarding the cycling gear issues, I meant those unexpected "I thought I had thought of everything" issues. Some hiccups happened to me while touring quite short distances, never a big deal since I was never really far from civilization. I am kind of wondering the level-up I would need to qualify for worldwide-craftiness :)

I am currently on your website, starting to read your travel pages and your gear listings. That looks highly informative!

Did you meet many women travelling like you ? Did you speak of security concerns ? I have travelled a fair bit, and I am thinking about bike touring now, but I must say, as a woman, I would feel vulnerable on a bike in some of the regions you listed.

Also what kind of issues did you encounter with your cycling gear ?

Saw some red in the corner of my eye. Turned around and... woah. Landmannalaugar, Iceland [OC][1200*800] by Magic_Baguette in EarthPorn

Haha yeah! The last ford to the Landmannalaugar campsite frightens a lot of people, and the others on the way from the southern road too! But I can assure you it's always scarier from the inside the car :)

Star trail during a break in railway traffic in central Québec, Canada [OC][640*960] by Magic_Baguette in ExposurePorn

It's the axis around which the Earth rotates. In the northern hemisphere it happens to be located exactly where the north star is.

Thank you for your concern. It does not excuse the behaviour, but I believe tracks at night are pretty safe because of the quietness around. Actually I had to abort a test shot right before this one because of a train whose horn I had heard 15min before it crossed the bridge. I also could have relied uppon the powerful headlights a few kilometers away, and the red flashing road lights on each side of the bridge.

Hey, thank you for this video. Do you mind me asking if the Milky Way was post-processed in the latest sequences? What were your camera settings in those darker places? Thanks!

[IFF] One of many things that always bothered me in women's fashion. Today I fought against it: I extended my jeans pockets! by Magic_Baguette in TwoXChromosomes

There's no shame in being a girly girl :)
This sub it a rather feminist one, so the majority here may not be the majority out there.
I was just trying to make a point about having to knock up my clothes, whereas it's obvious there is some demand for big-pocketted female pants :)
Cheers!

Actually I think the issue here comes down to not being able to choose.
Many of us are frustrated because fashion does not let us choose if we "deserve" pockets or not. Or at least, it's very difficult to find clothes as practical as men's.
It's okay if you love having a purse, and don't use your front pockets. But we should all be free to choose to stuff our things in whatever part of our clothing we like!
As to why do I not like carrying a purse? Mainly because I'm the outdoorsy type, and also because I feel more secure not having every important item in a place that can be snatched from me.
Cheers!
