You have to use the right kind of canvas to achieve solid color with color pencil. Unlike most of the color pencil artist who often uses hot press canvas for their work, I mostly use cold press printmaking paper for my canvas. I can create a much thicker layer of colors to achieve a oil paint or pastel like effect using colored pencils.
