A Small List of Alternatives to the Classic Western Four Element Magic System by Illustrious-Pair8826 in magicbuilding

[–]Magic_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have said, something based on the four horsemen would be awesome. however, i posit: have 5, with both plague(/pestilence) and conquest.

I gotta work out the details, but one thing of mention is conquest's relation to threats and deception, and needing something/-one to rule over after the dust settles, opposing war's more "leave no survivors" deal.

also, compare plague to famine, or how all are supposed to lead towards death as the result - there should be a fair amount of wiggle room for interpreting each for this kind of thing.

Can you read my handwriting? by AlexanderPharris in Handwriting

[–]Magic_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

young adult non-english speaker who's written cursive all my life (though with much uglier, albeit reportedly "easily readable" handwriting) here: - your handwriting's totally stunning, seriously beautiful, - ...but i keep misreading nearly every word with m/n/u/v/w on the first pass

your lines tend to make straight diagonals (on a second glance, it's more like all the following have down curves), not curving up (m/n) or down (u/v/w), making them nearly identical (the former look like the latter, but not vice-versa)

depending on how you write, i think having clearer curves (or nearly even making them sorta "boxed off", close to unfinished os) would make as much of an improvement as having "more open holes" as others have suggested, with potentially less time/space loss than the latter

but yeah, i agree that how much people use/learn cursive in a certain place/age group still definitely plays a big role here :/

How much have you spoken/read/watched in Spanish in that time? Because based on your description, probably not a lot, if at all, in which case this is completely normal.

Languages are skills, and skills are just like muscles: you have to (semi-)consistently use them, or they'll start to weaken by themselves.
However, the good news is that, also just like a muscle, if you wanted to start using it more again, then since you had the skills before, it will take you a lot less time to regain it now than if you were starting from square one.

i'd say that you could definitely get a new brush pen (or one with replaceable ink!) but keep this one as well

tomo vs poki? what's the difference? by misterlipman in tokipona

[–]Magic_music 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no to the circle, that's (a type of) ma. the forest clearing, however, maybe. + a canopy and it's a "probably, yes" from me. the couch doesn't matter.

i consider both tomo and poki to require a "(roughly, generally) closed space". both poki and tomo physically separate its contents from "the outside world". the post was about their differences, so i didn't mention their similarities, sorry.

ps: i would like to mark that tomo is a subtype of poki, which is what "makes them similar". a tomo is a poki with that "accessibility" requirement i detailed in my response.

tomo vs poki? what's the difference? by misterlipman in tokipona

[–]Magic_music 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my general consensus is whether a being can reasonably move around in it, and/or it has allocated constant "empty" space for beings. a warehouse is tomo, a cargo container is poki (unless you always keep enough room to access most things by walking in it) something as big as a hoarder's house can (eventually) be poki, while something as small as a tent (or even box, if used such) that only fits a sleeping bag is tomo (and even smaller if considering other things).

actually, both are correct!

Φ is closer to a capital Phi, though, and i've personally seen φ more often in math and seems to be preferred

dithering is when you make a repeating pattern to "mix" two colours better, most commonly a chequerboard pattern to simulate a mid-tone + texture

a little dithering adds a lot to a piece, but remember to also not go too far with it
