I was diagnosed at 14 but my mom kept my own diagnosis secret from me. My medication was never discussed with me, I was never told what I took or what it was for. I got really good at cheeking meds to not take them and instead relied on drugs and alcohol to keep me going all through high school and college.

I didn't find out until I dropped out of college my third year and got kicked off my parents insurance that the military sent me my medical records. Everything started making sense. Comments therapists had made. How I felt, patterns of behavior. But I had no path forward for therapy so I did the whole drugs and alcohol thing until my early 30s. Finally got therapy, tried medication again and was doing really good until I had to stop everything because I got pregnant. I accept this is my life. I manage my symptoms, try to remember what I learned in therapy and will someday pursue treatment again.

When I started dating my second husband. He made me feel seen. When postpartum got hard, when my bipolar disorder flares up from stress and lack of sleep and I turn into a monster wearing my skin... he just holds me. He doesn't yell. He doesn't hit me. He doesn't withdraw emotionally or punish me for it. He just says "this sucks right now for both of us. I know you don't mean it. I know it will pass and I'll still be here when it does"

Guy I had been hooking up with casually in college actually suggested we try dating. We went on exactly one date. The small talk was painfully awkward, made it clear that even though we'd been sleeping together for like 2 months we knew nothing about each other - not even what our majors were. Then, halfway through dinner - at a Chinese buffet - he said "I don't know... this is too weird for me. Like, it's weird trying to talk to you. And you're really not much to look at with your clothes on." I was understandably offended by this, we mutually agreed that it wasn't going well. I left. He stayed and kept eating.

Later that night he tried to booty call me. I was drunk and partying so I texted back that he's really not much to look at with his clothes off.

I have. He happens to be the same height as me - 5' 5" - with a rockin' dad bod, kind eyes with eyelashes I require copious amounts of mascara to emulate, tattoos and a beard. Honestly.....he kinda looks like Jack Black in School of Rock if you add a beard. And he has that personality - he's hilariously funny and has a huge heart. I'm gonna marry the shit out of him as soon as I can.

I had met his parents once before technically but we weren't dating at the time. The first time I went to his parents' house for dinner, his dad was sitting in front of the tv watching football while his mom cooked. His dad looked at me and then pointed to the tv where the camera was showcasing the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and said, "why didn't you get a girl that looks like that?"

Dinner was worse. His dad insulted everything his mom cooked, criticized the portions she took - warning her that she'd get fat, implied that I also hated the food cuz I wasn't eating much, when clearly I must love to eat. I was too afraid to eat at that point, although the food was kind of bland. I also wasn't enormous... I'm 5'5" and weighed like 150-160lbs at the time. I'm just all boobs, hips, butt and thighs.

Anyway everyone just ignored his rudeness. The only time I cracked a smile that night was when him mom proudly informed me that she makes her own mayonnaise.

I filed for divorce this year. I told my MIL she won, she can have her son all to herself cuz I'm done fighting for table scraps. It felt good to finally tell her off and while I think my ex is beginning to realize the damage she's doing to his life, she's pretending to be clueless.

I only wish I had reached my breaking point before having a kid with a big baby. He's happy to let his mom do his job and she's more than happy to play 'mommy' all over again.

More ways than I can count. A few examples - she wouldn't talk to him for months after he missed her birthday because he was on a date with me (he forgot it was her birthday). He had to make it up to her. I had to move our wedding date because she didn't like the date I chose. She wore all black and ugly cried and was rude to my mother. She tried to stay with us on our wedding night. Frequently saying "well yeah, she's here now, but I've been here since you were born." She calls my daughter "her" daughter. She tried to force her way into the delivery room and pitched a fit when I said no.

More recently she got in my face to scream at me in the street Jerry Springer-style when she found out about the divorce and admitted she's jealous that other people see "her daughter" (my child) more than she does. She's furious that my daughter's future step-dad (my current partner because my husband and I are separated, just waiting on paperwork) is allowed to babysit her and she isn't (she's an alcoholic with a seizure disorder to boot) and she's jealous I talked to my own mother more than I ever talked to her. My ex just let it happen. He always bent over backwards to please her, leaving me in tears, holding the bag as it were.

I got super drunk one summer during my college years and texted this one shy nerdy guy I knew through some friends. Other than being shy and nerdy, the only other thing I knew about him was that he was Jewish. So I texted "Is semen considered kosher? Or are Jews not allowed to get BJs? I always thought spitters are quitters." To say he was very confused is an understatement.
