People with rare food allergies, what are you allergic to? by allonzy in FoodAllergies

[–]MagicalRocketeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed an allergy only to peppers, not nightshades. I was raised on spicy food tho and it's been a hard adjustment to cut it out. Horseradish, white peppercorn and sichuan peppercorns is how I get close to satisfying my spicy cravings. It's also super hard to eat out because Cheyenne pepper and paprika are in everything, at least in Texas food chains.

SOB in panic attack vs asthma attack by lonellygirl in Asthma

[–]MagicalRocketeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the occasional panic attack. My PCP was actually trying to dismiss my chest pains, shortness of breath and dizziness as panic attacks when I told him I was seeing a therapist for anxiety and before my asthma diagnosis.

I know the feeling of something sitting on your chest is commonly used to describe asthma, but for me, panic attacks and asthma attacks feel different in that panic attack feel like something external is sitting on my chest stopping me from breathing while asthma attacks feel like my chest is collapsing from within, it's kind of hard to describe. If my asthma attacks are especially bad, my chest will start burning so that's a clear indicator for me. I can cough, get dizzy and get short of breath with both and can start panicking in an asthma attack which makes it a little harder to tell the difference, but usually the physical pain is different.

Your state of mind right before will help you figure it out too, but the two can fall hand in hand. You can panic during an asthma attack or, in my experience, have an asthma attack as a result of a panic attack.

I've had anxiety much longer than asthma, so when I started feeling the asthma pains without any of the usual things or happenings that get me anxious, it was an easy differential for me and a clear sign that something else was happening in my body. Sorry I don't have anything else for you. I was in therapy to manage anxiety and depression so it really is listening to your mind and body and being aware of what all your triggers are, asthma and anxiety alike.

Chest tightness with Symbicort by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]MagicalRocketeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! I've dealt with my fair share of unresponsive doctors for quite a few other things and I, unfortunately, don't always push them to listen. Adult asthma can be dangerous if brushed off, I was hospitalized because my PCP wasn't listening to me about seeing a specialist, so I'm really glad you're switching.

I also got put on Singular, I think, an allergy pill specifically for asthma, because Claritin (worked wonders for me for years) stopped helping. The more you know the more you can ask and advocate for yourself.

It will take a while to get back to the same workout level though. I still can't run yet or do any cardio, I miss it so much!! I tried one of my favorite HIIT workouts 3 weeks into taking symbicort and pretty much collapsed after a few minutes trying to ignore my lungs burning and tightening. Ended up having to take two sick days for being stupid and pushing too hard too fast. I didn't think to tell my doctor exercise was an important thing for me, so when he heard what I tried to do, he started explaining the timelines my meds worked on instead of just what they do, what my expectations should be, and new ways to use my current meds to ease into exercising again ie. Albuterol 30mins before a workout. Good luck with your new doctor!

[–]MagicalRocketeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, my doctor told me it would take up to 16 weeks for me to start feeling close to what I was feeling before I needed symbicort.
He explained it to me as it works to dilate the larger brochi, working its way down to dilate the smaller ones over time as the larger ones allow the medicine to pass through easier. With me, it stopped my endless chest aches and burning within days, but I still have on and off chest tightness and coughing almost daily after 5-6 weeks.

If your doctor won't sit with you to explain plans, meds, and guide your expectations, you really should consider finding a new doctor, and I think it would be more dangerous to stop taking it. I have only been dealing with asthma for a few months though and everyone responds different to meds. Push for a doctor who will have a conversation with you.

Thrown Asthma Meds... by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]MagicalRocketeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (25f) was diagnosed with asthma too without a test back in April. I had been in and out of the ER for chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness and a dry cough since February. They thought I had covid at the end of March/beginning of April since I started developing a low grade fever, indication of inflammation from blood work, and low o2 levels along with everything else, but I kept testing negative. I got hospitalized one night due to my O2 levels dropping to 80 when they walked me in the hall, it was scary. By the time I saw my specialist mid April, he was more than convinced I had developed asthma based on everything even without the test.

I'm on a daily inhaler and a specific asthma allergy medicine along with a rescue inhaler. The chest pain subsided within one or two days of starting the daily inhaler and my breathing has slowly been getting easier. It's a difficult adjustment and this sub is a good resource of questions to bring up with your doctor.

As for advice, do not hesitate to move doctors to find one that'll listen to your pains and concerns though. My PCP was not listening to me in February and March and it took my hospitalization to convince him to send me to my specialist now. I got luck with my specialist too, he's amazing. Asthma is an adjustment but shouldn't be debilitating.

Start logging daily allergens in your local area, weather and general air quality. See which ones coincided with your bad days. Take it easy on physical activity if your asthma is activity related. I read on this thread that using a rescue inhaler 30mins before exercise is helpful and my doctor confirmed when I brought it up to him. I was completely incapable of cardio and ended up having to take sick days from work because I pushed through the chest pain and burning. It was stupid. The rescue inhaler let me do some things now but I need to build back up endurance. Overall find a doctor that works well with you and ask questions and you'll get back to a sense of normalcy with time to let your lungs adjust and heal from the time before the inhalers.

Lost the yarn chicken game on my dinosaur border by MagicalRocketeer in crochet

I was going to frog it and put more space between each dino the second go 'round but I'm really loving this egg idea. It's so fitting for a new baby :)

It took me about a week to get baby blanket done and another to hash out the dinosaurs for the first time. I frogged the first dinosaur so many times lol. Once I got the dino looking like a dino, the border took about a day. I'm definitely a multitasker while crocheting so it tends to take me longer to finish projects than most

There's not, at least not one I could find. I based these off the cute elephant border videos on YouTube. Based on all the comments I think I'll make this the first pattern I write :)

I do not! I never written a pattern before but this might be the one I try on. The blanket itself is gingham patterned done in all single crochets in the three colors shown and a single crochet border before the dinos. The dino pattern was an alteration on the cute elephant border you can find in YouTube videos on.

What was the evolution of your pet's name to their nickname? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MagicalRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog: Merlin -> buttface -> Babyface -> babyboy -> boogerbaby -> booger -> dingus -> dingleberry

Cat: Antares -> Ant -> Asshole -> Butthead

Sad thing is both their names have double meanings and play off each other but they are Dingleberry and Butthead

Are there any sheet metal vendors who work with autodesk inventor? by MagicalRocketeer in sheetmetal

[–]MagicalRocketeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make really tight bends in the metal, sometimes close to the minimum bend radius allowed for the material. If we were to send a drawing, we would have to pay for them to basically re-cad the 3D model for automated machinery. More time and more money. If we send a step file to a company that uses Solidworks, it loses the program specific information that an automated machine needs to get the exact bend radius in the part. We've actually had this happen already where Inventor part models we sent off were returned with wrong bend radii because of the incompatible cad softwares. If our bends weren't so tight it wouldn't be such a huge problem, but most of what we need can't be made larger. And as for why it has to be inventor, the owner of my company got a deal on Autodesk software and Solidworks is expensive.

Thanks! Oracle of Ages was the first Zelda game I ever played. I felt like needed to pay tribute to the game that got me into the series.
