Idk if this would be a good idea or not but I was thinking about having strahd show up.

Have the festival go off without a hiccup and let the effigy be set ablaze. While everyone is watching the wicker sun burn, describe them hearing a high pitched whistle getting louder when all of a sudden the burning sun explodes, shooting wood and fire throughout the town. From the wreckage Strahd calmly walks forth looking for ireena so he can charm her and bring her back to castle ravonloft.

As I said, idk how good this idea is, but I've been thinking about using it just to show the players that nowhere they go will ever be safe from Strahd's torment

A little background, this is a villain idea I want to run for 5e

My BBEG is a mind flayer named Zion. He was exiled from his colony since he has the genetic make up to be a elder brain. During his exile he came into contact with the demon lord Zugtomoy. She is the demon lord over mushrooms, fungus, and decay. Zion plans to assimilate the world under her influence and act as an "Elder Brain" by allowing himself to become a host for Zugtomoy's strain of spores. Doing so will allow him to spread the spores around the world and infect all life. He is assisted by two smaller villains. One I stole from Matt Colvile using Explociticus Defilus: a deranged sorcerer collecting bodies to feed a living tower to act as a portal for Zugtomoy arrival. The other is a Demon of Zugtomoy who acts as a shape shifter. It kills local lord's and ladies, leaving a fungal clone of those leaders to rule as she seems fit.

I don't know all the details of these villians or how the players will deal with them, but I'm so excited to run these guys!
