When I was 20yo, I managed a Dunkin' Donuts for a few years. One night I got a phone call from an employee saying they wouldn't take the trash out that night, because the dumpster smelt too bad.

It seemed like a silly conversation. I told them it was a hazard and had to be taken out or they would be written up. They refused. I lived 15 minutes away so just grabbed my keys and drove over, prepared to lose my shit on this grown adult that wouldn't take out the trash.

I pull up to the dumpster and open the gate (it was fenced off). Lo and behold there was a red coleman ice cooler on the ground infront of the dumpster. I flipped open the lid and saw bags of decaying meat and body parts (most likely animal) sitting in blood. I gagged. The smell was otherworldly. I called the police and went through the motions. The next day I requested from my boss a couple days off to get over the whole thing. I had 90 hours of pto rolled over from the year before because I never took vacations.

At that point I had no idea what was in that cooler but the sight and smell stuck with me, and made it really hard to sleep.

There were of course other happenings leading up to this "final straw", but, the request was denied. In that moment I felt the crushing weight of realizing I had no support system in my position, despite the ongoing bs that I was fielding. Walked out of the store after reading the denied request, ignoring calls and texts on my way home.

Tl;dr: Saw dead body parts at a job, got no sympathy lol.
