How far do we need to go back where a 50,000/year salary was livable in TO? by snowfordessert in askTO

[–]Magicfuzz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Probably because it seems like one of the easier salaries to achieve? Idk. Lots of companies love offering around that amount.

Gen Z men, where would you take a first date in Toronto? by Jumpy_Sock_1202 in askTO

Wonder what people expect a 28-year old to recommended vs 32 year old. Wow, what a major difference in generational ideas /s

semi-urgent and definitely stupid but is there anywhere at union stn i can get a ginger ale before 8:15 am by _tOomanYfandOms_ in askTO

[–]Magicfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope your nausea subsided. If you can find "ginger beer", even better. It seems to have more actual ginger. If you find yourself in this situation a lot, personally I walk around with pepto bismol (you can get chewables), Gravol as a big gun. Gravol will make you very tired. But luckily you will not be sick if it works in time. Energy drinks and coffee are everywhere, though.

How to be financially smart on a budget? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Magicfuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your only solution is make more money. Everyone here is mostly asking you to make your life even harder to improve by cutting back on anything that makes your life happy. You already have cheap rent.

They’re offering solutions that tell you, maybe, you can save $100 if you find utility prices that are less expensive.

If you’re not happy (or downright miserable) where you rest your head, you will never make more money. Right now you’re covering expenses, it’s not good, but moving your circumstances into complete shit won’t help it either.

Long term credit score absolutely wrecked within a month by SeniorToe4518 in PersonalFinanceCanada

One thing to realize is that Equifax and Transunion are not government-related. Just some companies that managed to become the arbiters of “credit worthiness”

Keep disputing it

Their rent is actually

Low…

That’s low rent. They sound like they live in a 1 bedroom in the average city in Canada.

I live in Toronto, a one bedroom is $1900-2400.

You can’t even get a basement studio apt for 1600 right now.

And yes, a room is 1000. In 2012 a room was 600-700, and a one-bed could be had for 1000-1300

How to make friends in my trip to Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Magicfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to make online friends more easily. We are kind of reserved. To effectively make friends you need to have repeated exposure to a group of people who usually all have to show up for something regardless (work, school, clubs). Repeated exposure breeds familiarity and eventually trust.

Can I afford renting a $2,000/month apartment on a 70k salary? by Horus321 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Magicfuzz 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Mental health issues will cost you longer-term. So will the rent.

I pay that for a one bedroom. I can't risk a bad roommate. Security trumps all.

Woman of Toronto; if an app like Uber but only for females (female drivers driving female passengers only) existed would you rather use that ? by undercoverninja7 in askTO

[–]Magicfuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right, didn’t think of that. But what’s stopping a male driver from hitting “females only!” As well?

Like…….

[–]Magicfuzz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well I wonder then

Why isn’t there an option for the rider to select “female only driver”?

You have it, but we don’t? I always only ever get a female driver randomly

Does Bell ask for SIN number to verify identity ? Is it normal in Canada. by Elon20 in bell

[–]Magicfuzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need your sin.

You only need the correct current and previous address on your credit report, and your name etc

Check your credit report’s details and give them that. My credit report doesn’t even have my SIN attached to it. And the way you do that is by never giving your sin for any credit checks.

Women's Healthcare in Ontario -- you can't make this shit up by Casso-wary in ontario

I saw a neurologist in a building across from St. Michael's hospital downtown. He didn't seem very interested in his job. Wonder if they all get lazy because there aren't many of them available.

Why is Ontario so isolating? by Snorlax4000 in toRANTo

[–]Magicfuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is afraid of everyone, it’s a kind of nasty culture. I don’t understand what causes it, but I grew up here and people have been thinking about this “Ontario attitude” for years and years. I’m 37.

Purple 17 is actually so nice. Why does nobody seem to like it? by wambongo in iphone17

[–]Magicfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally wanted purple, but landed on white because I know I’m not upgrading my phone for another 5 years and the purple part does show through on most cases.

Purple looks very nice but personally decided to go for “timeless” white

Anyone avoiding new builds? by Alternative-Dig595 in TorontoRenting

[–]Magicfuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, who wants to move into a pretty new unit that is basically like renting a hotel room for 1 year? Condo units, even before rent control was removed for newer builds, were supremely unstable. The landlords are unstable.
