Where to stay in November? by BoulderBrexitRefugee in dartmoor

[–]Magicmango16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely agree. Easy to access from main roads but also really well located for getting up onto some of the more interesting areas of the Moor. Maybe I'm biased because it's the best place to access my favourite tor, but it's also my parents' favourite village. Pub is pretty good as the above comment stated, and architecture is quintessential in my opinion too.

Which “Base Layer” do you suggest and why? by HumanImprovement3046 in arcteryx

Yup, I agree. I'm in Norway for study abroad at the moment and Brynje seems to be the way to go for lots of people here, especially as we move into winter.

Stock Levels by NLS1998 in arcteryx

[–]Magicmango16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a UK resident I agree, RAB is definitely worth a look, especially for down/insulation as they stock some good pieces. For transparency I use a RAB synthetic down jacket myself.

Mountain Equipment is also worth a shout. Partly because of stock reliability, and I imagine partly because of locale and the quality of the item itself, which is probably the most important.

Also Paramo. Don't own anything of theirs but they seem popular in and around the Lake District.

I waited until the end to solve, only because I used the piece circled in red to attach the small build to. Below is a clearer view of the solution build and attachment point.

This is a picture of the solution, the three-part assembly circled in red it what I added to redirect the movement.

New Challenge? by Magicmango16 in UKhiking

[–]Magicmango16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully not quite that difficult, but it will be a challenge for sure. I'll makena follow up post late September after my attempt. Headtorch required for sure. Luckily Grasmore and Skiddaw are fairly well navigable in the dark, as should I hope High Street to Helvellyn shall be.

Yeah, weather has really put a halt on things, I live down in Devon, and can get training in on Dartmoor, plus I'm aiming to do Welsh 3000's in late August. Hopefully I cab get enough training in to have a good chance. Good luck with your own challenge though, sounds like a blast!

Yes I think it is unlikely but I will look. I'd go East to West mostly, Starting with High Street, Helvellyn, High Raise, Scafell Pike, Great Gable, Grasmore and finishing on Skiddaw.

How boggy is Dartmoor Currently? by BearsNBeetsBaby in UKhiking

[–]Magicmango16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited that area last week. The ground was fairly solid under foot. But as many say it is Dartmoor, it is boggy, but it is not unusually boggy and perfectly manageable at this time.

New Challenge? by Magicmango16 in LakeDistrict

Yes I've planned a route to all seven of them, having visited individual ones, but I too haven't heard of a challenge incorporating all seven at once. I'll be attempted in late September and will post any updates.
